The LandCruiser is in very low range so can get it's traction down to work, It probable has diff locks on, which really helps with traction, lowered tyre pressures, again, helps with traction. It also has a driver that knows what he is doing. You are correct in your questioning this but don't underestimate what a great vehicle the LandCruiser is.
The ball is for trailers and not pulling vehicles out of the mud. Get a proper tow point on your vehicle please. You are going to kill somebody when that ball breaks off
