for me the most disappointing scare of the movie was the Foxy jumpscare. That had so much potential, and they fucked it up by having him teleport in front of the camera, instead of running down the hallway like he does in the game
@@Knightfall-rb7mdI know I’m late but it took six puppeteers to make Foxy WALK so they wouldn’t do that at a high speed for running, they would just make him the lighting dark and have him teleport to Jeff.
Yeah. There are a lot of times where I enjoyed the fanservice while also infuriated at Mike for punching an innocent father senselessly while not mustering that same bravado against Afton in the end. That and how many punishment Vanessa would have gotten had the police figured out about Vanessa holding reports. Also that scene where the animatronic haunting went full Mortal Kombat Fatality.
*It was a crime* that they didn’t do the “Open this door, Close this door, conserve power till morning” aspect in the film. No phone guy? He was the perfect vehicle into the games. No kids cheering at 6am. Feels like they left out the charming parts in the game - and skipped through a few games of lore. Could’ve been worse tho.
Literally nothing happens in the first hour. I felt like I was watching a Daytime TV drama about an Alcoholic Single Father fighting for custody of his daughter. Then the monsters finally show up, and they immediately take the mystique and horror out of them by having the little girl and security guards become their friends
They’re 100% going to do a sequel seeing as how the movie ended. In the original lore William Afton kept coming back as the big bad final boss of the games and is the overarching antagonist of the franchise. Heck the dude was sent to hell (literally) and still came back in the form of Glitchtrap and Burntrap. Plus i really do agree on most of the points you guys pointed out. This movie uses the same tropes and themes every other horror movie you have seen have used. The only thing worth anticipated for in this movie is how well they were gonna incorporate the lore with the side plot of Mike trying to protect his sister abby from the animatronics. They really could have done better. But it’s still a big massive fanservice to longtime FNAF fans and i appreciate their effort
The fact that this game went from being an indie game - to a series, then to a movie is absolutely amazing. I respect the creator for creating a franchise that’s beloved by a fan base. I’m not a fan of the series, but I respect it.
@@Arc_Eden This is true for most game horror franchises now, not just FNAF. RUclips reacting makes these games big when they otherwise likely would have died out and been lost in the weeds
@@Arc_Edenlike mostly every other game which is played on youtube doesn’t take away anything most indie will get a RUclipsr play and you never see it again and there’s no fanbase
RUclipsrs are influencers as they brain wash ppl to play it and then it goes viral etc. Ppl who cant think for themselves tend to get influenced quite often
Alex is extremely good at explaining why he likes or dislikes a film, I myself thought this was a straight average film, but Alex may have changed my mind on this. The thing that saves this film that the Halo TV show didn't know is absolutely the dedicated core fanbase. Nobody in the world has ever said that the scenes with Chief and Kwan-Ha were so emotional, the girl who wanted to do drugs in the forest is super relatable. They were making a movie and adding Halo elements and the fans spoke. FNAF, while this side quest with Mike may be new, the core audience love the animatronics, lore, Easter eggs and cameos despite it being mediocre. It was a film for the fans even though it was not good, but the fans still appreciate that I think.
I'm happy for fans of the game that enjoyed the movie. I think my problem is that I was just a casual fan of the first game, and didn't really know or understand a lot of the lore, and I got expectations of it to be more "scary" or "dark" in tone. It really wasn't a scary movie at all, I at least expected there to be jump scares, but don't even recall any. None that were really effective anyway.
Why do people keep saying there were no jump scares and nothing happened. Were you all watching asleep. The cupcake in the locker even if you don't like it, was a jump scare. They had action the first 5 minutes but people keep saying the robots did nothing. Then you had them attack the robbers...and one gets cut in half and they show it but somehow that's not good enough for those who want R rated in a pg 13 movie for kids. Sigh.
@@nichescenes So let's me get this straight, 1 measly jumpscare, 3 minutes of a dude running around in the dark and then get killed by a saw trap knockoff and about 7 minutes of animatronics killing people that ends with a really hilariously death ... all that in a 1h50 minutes movie and that's enough to please you ? dear god man, your standard is so low people can serve you warm beer and you'll call it gourmet
@@justarandomdouchebag5942 I didnt say i thought this movie was great or the best thing I've ever seen in my life geeze you cynical types think being edgy hate everything makes your opinions more critical. Pat yourself on the back. All I was pointing out was that the film literally contradicts a lie going around "seems the net is in love with doing this" that their are no jump scares and the robots do nothing and the movie has no plot etc. Stating facts being a bad thing is your prerogative. You skipped that someone's body got bisected, and the so called all that happens in 1 hour and 50 minutes has a plot for those fans of the material. But again I don't care if you hate it, I don't like it, but I realize what it was, its just a decent time for fans and it does what the fans want and for 20 million that's fine, I'm betting your the type that has a huge standard deviation on good and bad films mostly skewed negative unless its prestige. Given how you think me not calling a movie the worst thing everrrr means I drink warm beer and think its the best thing ever...give me a break. People can watch early GOT and not like it and be the same who like Breaking bad, opinions are a thing.
@@simpaixhempai6266 You likely weren't the target demo. The critics hate it but fans enjoy it. Or you came in wanting a different movie aka R rated robots taking a guy out in a simple survive the night plot, fair enough but that's not what they wanted to go for an its fine. The toxic if I don't get what I want=bad movie takes leave no nuance.
Unfortunately, in the lore, he does go home. So it wouldn't have made sense for him to get stuck there. One other thing I liked this more than Super Mario because I actually liked the story. Fnaf if you really look at the lore isn't actually that scary but it's got great characters and great world-building and I saw all of that here. Unfortunately unlike Super Mario I just feel like they didn't explain enough stuff and didn't flesh things out enough. By the way Scott Cawthon, the one who wrote it is the creator of the game so he did take the source material seriously and that kind of hurt me when you said they didn't, but it's all opinions and I will say Five Nights is not for everyone especially where the lore goes after the first few games.
Ya i was gonna say. The lore is insanely weird. Like i have very limited knowledge of it, i watched a few mattpatt viddos talking about the early games. Anything after like 3 onwards i stopped caring. But like the original 2 games.. the dude goes to work for five nights (hence the name lol) that would make even less sense if they went crazier with the movie and he kept coming back. Like after literally seeing the animatronics actively trying to kill u every night... then u just show up the next day for ur shift? Lol. They were already complaining about this movie him going back after just seeing the animatronics walk around and talk to his sister. They would have a meltdown if it was 100% faithful
I enjoyed Mario much more. Fnaf story was just doing too much for something so simple. All the sleeping and dreaming and the "evil aunt" custody battle was not needed whatsoever. Really should have just been him stuck in there trying to escape...or if he just had to go home have him be a mini detective and doing research on the establishment and getting familiar with the history...asking himself questions and finding out what is truly going on with this place and these animatronics and needing to go back inside each night to find more clues inside the establishment to his puzzle. I wanted to know about Freddy's pizzeria...did not care about his childhood trauma and needing to sleep to find clues all while having a family dispute for custody and having to go to work at night where it just so happens that the animatronics come alive and attacked him once. At least Mario went on a quest/adventure...fnaf just had me sleeping just as much Mike was lol
@@bigchrisXl bruh i sure loved beastiality the movie. It is all opinion based but i felt like Five Nights had a story where Mario was just member berries the movie and was cringe most of the time.
@@NaruBrilu well i mean in the lore the reason the animatronics attack are because Mike looks like Afton so it makes sense they dont attack in the movie because Mike in the movie has no relation to Afton I dont think and Vanessa looks nothing like Afton. So, that's why I was fine with it. Also I thought Hutcherson did a great job as Mike and I dont get why they didnt lije him that much.
@@BrainrotTV6969 To me the fnaf story was like they took a completely different movie that had a different title that was about a man dealing with childhood trauma from his brother being abducted and is obsessed to solve the mystery through his dreams...and then they slapped "Five nights at Freddy's" on it and wrote in he gets a job and that mystery kids in his dreams are the animatronics where he works. To me the story just could have been so much better for what the premise that Im aware of is about...a man has to work and survive nights of animatronics trying to capture him. That's was my mindset going into this movie and just not what I took from it in the end.
21:49 he doesnt beat him up bcuz he reminds him of his dad. He beats him up bcuz he thinks the kid is getting kidnapped. Considering his brother got kidnapped when he was younger and he feels like he couldve prevented it. So, this was a sort of redemption for him in the sense that he could stop this from happening. I dont think it's totally unbelievable
Yeah I think maybe they’re going a little hard on everything because of the other parts of the movie making them upset. Mike having unresolved anger and going hard because of what happened with Garrett and pummeling that guy
@@TheRockinAwesomeOne ya, like i do like the movie. It's definitely not a masterpiece or anything, it has issues. But this particular issue isn't hard to believe imo lol
@@austinsanchez4694 idk maybe the other guy didnt want to press charges? Maybe they went to like a preliminary hearing or something and Mike mentioned what had happened to him in the past. It's just not very important to story the director and them thought, so they didnt bother showing it
The threat of the animatronics is they they're insanely strong and like 7 feet tall. Stalking you through dark hallways, waiting to forcefully stuff your body into a robot shell, until you're a broken paste inside of it. And in this film they chose to keep the animatronics on stage for 90% of them film, pretty much taking away any kind of threat. Fans know what might happen if you're caught but the normie viewer won't know what the hell the threat is.
I feel like the movie was an all around faithful in creation to the game/games. However you have to be an already established member to know or even enjoy it. I personally don't consider the movie horror, maybe a thriller at times? But overall I think this film is a key target to those that know the games, know the lore and have been wanting a movie. Personally I wasn't looking for a movie, although to see a faithful(ish) rendition from Blumhouse was a welcomed sight. All in all I believe these movies are a pure target to the already established fanbase and may attract a few outsiders but nothing extreme, I also believe that these movies are meant to act as 'bones' for the overly confusing and extremely compounding lore of the games, books etc and all that or maybe even another timeline (because timelines make jank lore easy to fix). Overall went with a friend, we both gave it a 7. Nothing groundbreaking but a welcome addition that i am still dumbfounded exists.
@@mrjtfang2 Oh it'd be entirely possible to do so. Help wanted already established that the first 4 games were "Created by a rogue indie developer". They could always pull a Wes Cravens new nightmare kind of shtick where the original movie was just that in universe, a movie. One that was funded by the Fazbear corporation to make light of the "crazy stories".
Bro this movie sucked I know the lore. They literally fucked up the entire story.....Vanessa is in the wrong timeline. I want faithful adaptations......not changed stories and characters where they don't belong.....2/10. Points given for design of animatronics
If you look at it as a horror film or just a film, then yeah it's awful but my friends and I still enjoyed it since we kinda grew up with the franchise and we loved the little easter eggs and references so we're definitely looking forward to the second film
i think why some people are frustrated about fanservice being jingled in front of you like a dad does to his children to get their attention is because its...just that. Thats also what is wrong with Mario from my knowledge, no actual story that is going anywhere and grabs its audience attnention by the titals ability to immerse an audience that has already accepted the stakes and lore, while it fails at immersing anyone who isnt familiar making the only thing captivating memberberries. Which like if you really wanted to remember them, play the game right? Or watch a matpat video but thats just my opinion
There's no reason why it couldnt have all the easter eggs while also having a good script. Its crazy how many people like you are loyal, obedient consumers when it comes to a brand you like lmao
You can like a movie and still say it's shit. It has flaws and well i want a horror movie to be scary this is not. It fails as a movie it succeeds as a franchise. As it grows bigger they can deliver less and the fans will just eat it up it is what it is.
@@revolver2750 I literally said it's an awful film but my friends and I enjoyed it. Some of them said it was mid, some of them said it was peak. I was the one who had mixed feelings but still enjoyed it
I actually really enjoyed the movie and saw it a few times in theaters with different friends and groups and it seems fans enjoy it more but I mean the people I saw it with who never knew anything about fnaf still very much enjoyed it.
You need to not know anything about the series to enjoy it unfortunately because then you won't see how bad it is. But if you liked it good for you i guess. But alex is right people need to stop praising movies like this otherwise we'll keep getting them which none of us want.
@@Sonic171K I thought you were going to say that you didn't go to watch it on tatro because of the kids shouting and clapping for something, but in your case it's just a minority as well as people who never knew FNAF and liked it or thought it was good, they're just minorities
I remember wondering why breaking in *during the day* would make Mike look incompetent. I think Vanessa accused him of leaving a door unlocked? But like… it was the garage door. It was never unlocked, unless it had always been left unlocked and Vanessa was gaslighting him because of the meds - which is very plausible. But the gang breaking in during the day was still a dumb way to get in trouble the *night guard*.
This movie is for the fans. As was already said. It had a pg13. And it should have been more adult. And it should be longer. BUT if you like the games. Know the lore. It's an amazing movie of a game. Fnaf was never really about gore or supper horror.
That’s kind of unrealistic to expect, in my opinion. The ages of the fanbase range from kids all the way to adults. Having the movie be rated R really limits the amount of people who can watch it.
Bro i have been a fan since fnaf 2. I loved almost everything fnaf, besides the books. I did not like the movie. The sleep over scene ruined almost the entire movie. And for that guy above me who said fnaf was not about gore. You are correct. But there was gore in the games. If you lost in fnaf 1 you would see your characters eyes sticking out of the suit.
The thing with this movie is it please the main fanbase and that was the main goal. Casual fans or average movie goer seem to be the main negative critics. That is a better and smarter turnout than lets say Halo that tried to do neither.
My husband and I don't play the games, but we are into the lore. We both enjoyed the movie. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. There were only 5 people in our showing when we went.
I had a blast seeing this indie series started by one guy making it all the way to the big screen. I thought the animatronics looked great, and the characters were interesting enough. I do think it needed to lean more into the horror and less into silly moments, and it could’ve used an extra 15-20 minutes to add more horror and expand the third act. Hopefully they take these criticisms into account for the sequels, as they seem really in tune with the fans
My kid has been a huge fan of the series for years now. I didn't see this as a R-rated horror movie that's been toned down, but as a PG movie that was a much more scary movie for the family, including and especially for kids. The story was serviceable enough for my kid, and it exceeds my (admittedly) low expectations.
I think the movie is fine and a love letter to the very weird community it has built. It could’ve been so much better if they had more of the Tone they have in the trailer with the yellow bunny creeping out of the shadow. (Not using names etc for spoilers)
@@theunchartedwolf8996 of course not, but let’s also not act like a community who counts robot teeth and toes for a deeper analysis on the story beats is a normal thing either. 😂
I enjoyed the movie and I saw it with my sister the night it came out. It was fun seeing all the lore coming in and being a long time fan is most likely going to make you enjoy it more like it did for me (obviously not all fans of the series will like it). I don't think it was scary, I think it is a niche movie that has another genre it would of been listed under. But I had fun going out to the movies for the first time since before covid. I think that a lot people rate movies for the experience they had and not necessarily the movie which is something I do myself a lot. Also I don't consider this movie to even have jump scares, all but maybe 1 seemed comical and most people in the theatre laughed too, it felt like this ended up being the intention imo. This being rated PG-13 meant a lot of younger kids saw the movie too and anyone probably younger than 21 is going to have a much different experience than people 30+ including myself. I can understand and respect why a lot of people didn't like it though.
I think this is one of those movies where if you're a big fan of the games you'll like the movie but a casual fan or someone not familiar with the games wont like it
Pretty terrible way to make a movie if you want it to expand the fan base. Which is presumably the point of making the movie… otherwise just make another game 🤷♂️
I didnt go into this movie thinking it was going to be a horror movie. I went because i am a fan of fnaf. I enjoyed it. It pays its respects to the franchise and added new characters into the story (assuming theres no Charlie). Fnaf has been about fan service, theories and lore since the first game. Most of us went into this movie wondering what theories we could get from it or if it would answer any questions. Would it follow the game or be its own story?? For Mike to be stuck in the pizzeria wouldnt make any sense because we know he goes home after his shift is over. Hes never been stuck there. Acting was decent, atmosphere/design was amazing, soundtrack was good. There doesnt need to be gore or an R rating for it to be a good movie. It's fun and good for what it is. Im not a critic, im a fnaf fan. I enjoyed it and everyone will have their own opinion but im excited for more of these movies for more fan service and the lore.
The movie has no tension and it's not scary. I enjoyed it more than Willy's Wonderland soley because it's a faithful adaptation of the game. It's fun seeing the animatronics brought to life. Also I loved shaggy in this role. It fails at being a horror / thriller, but it did a pretty decent job being FNAF, the movie.
The people who would even go watch this movie don't care about movies. They want game lore and references and fanservice. They don't want a good movie. They got a massage from Scott and left happy and that's all they wanted so good for them. The movie itself is still bad.
As a non-fan who is familiar with all the lore that MatPat has layed out over the years, but haven't played the games myself because I hate jumpscares... I LOVED the movie and its subplot about the robots wanting Mike's sister and I gave it a 6/7. Is it cliche with the whole "main character has to realize what is most important to him and let go of the past"? Yes, but I am also a huge softie.
As a fan and someone who's watched all the lore videos this was perfect and everything I wanted from the movie, so many little references and I'm so glad they stayed away from making this just another gorefest, FNAF has never really had gore, only the implication of it, first time I've left the cinema smiling since Dune, definitely one for the fans :D
It kinda reminds me of puppet master - with the title villians being revealed as only tools for another character in the background. I thought the scene with the sleepover was oddly adorable. I don’t think I’d want a sequel to this, but a tv show with more moments like this would be fun
Someone pointed out that this isn't horror... it's more like Are you afraid of the dark or goosebumps.... it's the gateway to the horror stuff. back in my day, it would have been rated PG, I feel this is alot like Gremlins or the goonies.
I like how Joe thinks this movie is supposed to be modern day, even though if you look closely at the start of the movie when Mike is in the waiting room the security tape clearly says "2000". And on top of that there are other clues that show it's not modern such as Mike having a freaking TV with a VCR (popular in the early 2000's) and there's a chia pet commercial.
Why do you insult people that liked something that you didn't like? I mean "Yeah, whoever velcro your shoes in the morning have them grab a keyboard for you and type it in," is a little far. I liked the movie. Did I think it was scary? No, I didn't. I never thought FnaF is scary, a jump scare is not scary. I like the "lore", the community around it, and seeing the characters I know and love come to live. It was a movie for fans, mostly older fans that were there for all the games. Or said differntly; this movie just wasn't for you. I respect your opinion about the movie. For someone that isn't a fan of the FnaF-universe there is little there, so why would you rate the movie differently? Just remember please that you don't have to insult people who liked something you did not.
Because most people that like it r children is it an insult to call a child a child? The movie was supposed to be a r rated movie but went down to a pg-13 to cater to a broader audience and children so it’s literally the demographic of the movie .
I think it was a great introduction to scary movies for kids. It's not over the top, It's not gory, there are no boob flashes or sex scenes, and the jump scares are not too much . Being a horror movie lover, it was exactly the tempo to introduce my youngest to scary movies and increase the level of horror movie choices over time. Without freaking them out or turning them off to scary movies. You need to realize it really wasn't for the older crowd even though the game has a strong adult fan base it was for kids.
@neo-didact9285 goosebumps was one of the choices, yes. Is there an issue with multiple choices in regards to introducing scary movies? There's also are you afraid of the dark and tales from the crypt. The fact that they exist doesn't change what I said. It's a good introduction to scary. Without being over the top. Just because there's a few doesn't mean there can't be any more... unlike goose bumps, fnaf is modern and something they grew up knowing, so it was exciting to them to see it. My kids weren't born in the 90's lol so goosebumps is just an old book to them.
You're entitled to an opinion. You're not entitled to have everything made for you and you alone. Also, the first game didn't have much of a story since it was just you surviving a week at Freddy's, the only story hints we got were the newspaper clippings in the east hallway.
Id say it was because of how the mario movie was soo successful, same thing we are seeing here. As someone who grew up watching the fnaf games from mark, i enjoyed the movie expecting it to have not that great of a story. But to me I had a "fun" time with the movie. All this is, is that both mario and fnaf are so popular in the media, that their movies hit so hard at the box office because of their nostalgia purposes, even though both did not have the greatest of story. But i do respect everyones opinion.
I think the problem is that they went into this expecting a full on horror movie when FNAF has never fully been about horror. It was a very bleak and depressing story about trauma, child murder, and some dark humour. It's more of a thriller than anything.
Sure, let's go with that (despite the fact that people played all of the games in anticipation of jumpscares and at least some fear involved), then where were any of the thrills? There is virtually zero tension in any parts of the film. Halfway through the main cast are all best friends with the animatronics, building forts and having a jolly time. Even at the end when they "turn", there's still no real danger because every nearby electronic device defeats them instantly. A thriller keeps you on the edge of your seat anticipating what might happen next, this movie nearly put me to sleep.
Not big on FNAF, haven't really seen the movie, but all of Joe's and crew complaints seems to be that he doesn't like the parts that are true to FNAF, and just wants kills and gore of a franchise that has never been about gore, no game has blood, all violence has always been implied. Seems to me Joe should at least do a bit of research about stuff, like, I just know about the franchise from some youtube videos and MattPatt (back when I used to watch it), FNAF never been particularly good in it's story, add the books (which are supposed to be canon) there's time travel, IA, ghost, fusioned ghost, IA replicas of a dead guy who thinks it's a ghost, actual IA body snatcher, mechanic IA esqueleton using a corpse to move around, zombie who is smart and trying to stop the bad things from happening, etc. Not to mention sll the time the animatronic where "just IA killing randoms" then "posessed animateonics seeking vengeance agaist only the bad guy" then just "killing every adult they come across night shift because all adults seems to be the bad guy to them". I believe that's the main problem with the franchise, just seems to be a jumbled mess if ideas, barely related, who's only purpose is to make Mattpat wrong each time he seems to have a coherent plot theory (you can't convince me that ScottCawton doesn't just throws to the trash plot details just to mess with Mattpat because he called shot right) All in all, the movie sounds like a faitfull FNAF story
Yeah as a fan of the games I enjoyed the references and even how the animatronics kill are accurate to the games (bonnie kills in the storage room, chica likes the kitchen with no cam and kills in the kitchen in the movie, foxy runs at his target, freddy kills in the dark). However the movie is a huge missed oppertunity. Imagine in the opener with the old night guard barricading the room, instead there was a classic night. Starts off with the night guard chilling and looking through the cameras, bonnie dissapears and he gets a little confused and flips through a few cameras to see if they are still working and sees bonnie in a different room. Then hears chica in the kitchen and that camera goes dark. He flips back to foxy and sees foxy peaking out at him through the curtain and flips to the mainstage and freddy is starting at him. He then closes the door and barricades it and you hear the classic freddy laugh echo out. Then he tries to escape and dies to foxy. That would have been an insane opening that would setup the movie so well. They focused on mike and his daughter too much and would have prefered a more survival-tense dark movie than what we got. The end with afton dragged into the room and locked in it by the animatronics is lore accurate so I can't complain about the ending. Maybe after being locked in there and surviving 5 nights he uncovers the secrets along the way he proves to the animatonics who killed them and they turn on afton and mike escapes.
No it does not. I am a fan, but every single callback, easter-egg and lore-reveal wasn't done justice at all! No subtlety, no mystery, everything is so clumsily beating you over the head. Not to mention there are WAY to many characters (poorly concieved ones too) undercutting the helpless feel of isolation that the first few games had. I cannot understand how fans of the games liked this movie, it was crushingly disappointing on every level except the aesthetic.
@austynsingletary183 Honestly, i have to agree, and i know many of the fans didn't like it. I think this video was steaming pile of crap story wise and the characters were not believable. I don't know what Scott was thinking with this. That being said I'll give it the benefit of that it was made more for kids so they couldn't go as dark as they should of to do the lore some legitimate justice.
@@austynsingletary183 Lol bruh, I love the game and the movie, but your asking them try and tell a story from a (let alone scott had to do large number of rewrites for the movie) game that's story is long, stupid and convoluted with small drops of the books aswell (that NO ONE READ). I'm glad they didn't follow the game story, it wouldn't be fun and won't work for a REAL movie. And if you think the game story was "good", The truth is we wouldn't know what the story was without Game theory and that's a fact.
@@hotfuzz4416True that it's better that they tried to go their own way about the story, but at the same time execution of it wasn't good. Uninteresting characters, stakes that are basically as low as they can be, almost no atmosphere and zero tension. The whole subplot with that gang and the aunt was useless since it amounted to nothing, and the animatronics (while they looked fantastic) didn't feel threatening or even scary. Not even the red eyes could make them scary/threatening. I get that it was a fanservice kind of movie that was aimed more towards children, and the references were cool, however the movie was just boring. It lacked personality.
I’m a FNAF game fan and this movie was disappointing I didn’t hate it tho. My biggest issue is that it wasn’t scary at all! Also I think there was only two jumps area which is ridiculous for a game based on jumpscares. So reveal of the villain here was weak considering he just ‘dies’ after and his motivations wasn’t explained.
As a horror fan: 4/10 ^since only when it’s the 4 intruders getting killed, it felt a bit scary and horror like but the rest of the movie isn’t like that unfortunately. As a FNAF fan: 7/10 ^Scout told the story the way he wanted to tell it and his creation is on full display, setting and story-wise (despite the flaws in it) and having Living Tombstone in the credits was the cherry on top. The critic side of me: 3/10 ^The story is pretty is mediocre along with its poor setup of the killer with hardly any build up and the acting is okay at best. Only stand out was Josh Hutcherson as Mike, who plays the stubborn and paranoid character pretty well, and Matthew Lillard as William who fits the killer role perfectly but unfortunately isn’t given enough screen time to make the movie more compelling and entertaining.
Then they shouldn't make a movie about ghosts possessing anamatronics and killing people. The whole premise of five nights is to hardcore for kids in the first place
Should've went for an R rating, you got these huge ass machines that can cause a ton of damage and shoving bodies into animitronics could've made for some good body gore horror.
@@PikaLink91 Movies don't have to be like the game is. If you actually want to show the horror of what it's like to be forced into these suits and how the wiring, springs and mechanics fuck you up. I think the movie was a enjoyable watch. The movie is not scary, but if you are not a looking for a horror movie experience its an OK watch, especially, if you like the FNAF lore.
They should have made the first movie about the initial pizza pled opening up with all the original stuff, then gone through all the events with other follow up movies. The “horror” element seemed missing indeed. The visuals were impressive enough to get it an 80 with audiences.
I hope that when the sequels come out as long as Scott gives the Required story beats and the director/writer team has as much passion as like the Fnaf lore guys do then I think this franchise could be Fine, not the best, but fine.
Ngl blumhouse isn’t exactly the best studio for horror movies. If the movie was more story driven it would have been better but it was clearly marketed for children. I’d say the gradual change in the fan base over the course of the franchise’s history is what ruined the movie. If the movie was as gritty as the first game it would have been a masterpiece considering it stayed true to its founding.
The actor in the gold bunny suit, when the mask came off, they should have said the monster was Shaggy this whole time, and I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for you ghost kids
Respectfully, stop looking at this movie like an adult. Anyone leaving upset because they wanted to see Poltergeist, Saw, Carrie, or something meant to be grotesque need to remember this is PG-13, this is meant for kids. It's this youth's version of Goosebumps, or Are You Afraid of the Dark, or Tales from the Crypt.
I haven’t felt this pissed after watching a film since the last Jedi, it was absolutely painful to watch, it isn’t even a fun movie I felt bored all the time. I cannot understand how the fans really loved the movie, the lore stuff from the games where really just cheap Easter eggs for the fans to say “oh look they said the thing” or “look the thing from the game shows up”but made absolutely no sense for the movie’s context.
I don’t think the movie was good by any means, but I can’t say I didn’t have fun watching it. Everyone in the theater was having a great time and surprisingly many weren’t children. Animatronics were badass. I just wish they leaned more towards the horror and suspense that the games brought.
@@donniegrobmeier2719 when has any movie ever been scary ? You're not scared when you get a jump scare, you're startled and that's essentially surprise and shock.
@@boxonothing4087I’ve been uncomfortable and creeped out watching Ari Aster films, that can relate to fear. There simply should’ve been more jump scares, not hard to do.
Let me guess, didn’t like it and demands it be a rated R gore fest even thought the franchise is rooted in kids being the main audience. Expecting a cinematic masterpiece in writing out of FNAF of all things is so dumb 😂
How is it not a good five nights at freddys movie? As you said, the set and the robots were spot on, the first game doesn't really have like a story.... More like "try not to die" and that was pretty much it.... So for a movie based on the first game it was actually pretty faithful..... So how is this a bad five nights at Freddy's movie Alex? Is it a good horror movie? No that much I do agree, but its not a bad five nights at Freddy's movie.... In fact its kind of the perfect movie for this type of game.
All the die hard fans and defenders have been saying this is supposed to be based off the books than the game, theres nothing with animatronics building forts and playing with little kids in the first game, it fails in what it’s trying to do and show and that makes it bad fnaf movie… in fact a terrible one at that
Honestly thought it was pretty good. I expected them to fuck it up, and its actually super respectful to the story and lore and sets it up for future games/movies wish they would have gone harder into the horror elements. It doesnt do it very much, in fact its very campy and kinda cheesy but there are some moments that are dark AF and i wish they went harder on that.
I actually enjoyed the film for what it was, but is it a good horror/ tension movie no. I had a good time watching it, I also liked that they brought up RUclipsrs that also enjoyed the fnaf series.
So I was gonna give it a 6/10 but I'm dropping it to a 5/10 it's the et pieces I'm so happy to see that in new films not awful CGI the mechanics r so cool to watch I woudo love to see the behind the scenes on making Thai seems like it will be more entertaining lol
Its also a 'horror' movie for a younger audience, its not like its competing against the VHS franchise. I think its a great character/setting introduction and will elaborate on the next film. I thought Dune was boring, slow, and dull. The 'scenic' sand got old. Didn't read the books or pre-learn the lore either so I would probably assess that movie the way you asses this one. It seemed like this was made for the fans who are already clued into some of this stuff. Not a some 'widely accessible' halo-esque production making stuff up as they go. If this is meant to be a trilogy I think this first movie did its job.
Also, to answer Joe’s question from spoilers, I think they were trying to make Abby into “Circus Baby” or “Baby” for short, she’s introduced in FNAF 5 (Sister Location). She was originally the spirit of William Afton’s daughter, whom in this movie, is Vanessa. Even though Vanessa is Vanny in Security Breach, as another bunny character. Confusing
My kids are fans of Fnaf and I know the lore because they always talk about it lol. We watched it together and they loved it. I thought it was a good film for the fans and enjoyed it even though it kind of felt all over the place in some ways.
the movie was, what it need it to be a horror movie light, it was pg 13 but I lost count of how many little kids dressed as freddy where in the movie theater, and while there are older fans of the games the vast and I mean vast majority of the fans are kids, kids with parents, if you are an adult how much money did you spend 1 person one ticket l, compared to me my wife and my 9 year old, yeah the movie sucked I was bored but my son had a blast and they got 3 ticketa out of me, that is what critics of this movie are missing
I had no idea about the backstory going in but I actually liked it. I don't think the movie was trying to be all that scary. I think it was trying to be more unsettling or just really creepy. I felt it was more like an amped up episode of 'Goosebumps', which I was fine with. I'm sure I'll get some hate for this but there it is.
I think this is probably what a log of adults are missing the point of, which is this is a horror movie for kids, not adults. The fact that nothing in the games is as violent as this movie is honestly infuriating me with how many people don't realize that.
Scott is strongly religious, and never was alright with gore himself. The only reason why he ever created a "horror" game was because people told him that in his prior children game the characters looked really unsettling. What Scott did instead, and this movie did too, is imply stuff. Have the true horror in the background, like Vanessa telling Mike that the murderer "did horrible things to those poor children" makes one wonder how he created those haunted animatronics - and if he made Vanessa watch as a child herself.
@@coletrainhetrickwe’ll I mean in fnaf 1 when u would lose it would show a scene of u being stuffed In a suit with your eyeballs hanging out, more gore than what we got in thsi since it’s trying to cater to a broader and younger audience
@austinsanchez4694 but that's false. We have a character that is hardly bad get bitten in half on screen. The eyeballs being there is barely anything than the viewable motion of a person being literally bitten in half.
So it's a grift review as you admit you were put off by negative critic reviews but because it's earning profit you decide you'll watch and review??? Something tells me you don't have this problem watching and reviewing crappy Disney Star Wars films and shows that have no good critic reviews now.
The tl;dr of my other post: the main allure of the entire FNAF franchise is the lore and the bulk of the fan base is curious in how this film will fit in or explain the established lore. Jumpscares and general horror elements are just game mechanics, and the "subplot" (as Joe called it) is the key to the main story being told in the dozens of games and books spread across nearly a decade of this franchise. This movie was never meant to be a new Saw or Terminator, but another piece of the puzzle that is FNAF lore.
What’s ironic is if they had just stuck him in the room from the game and had him scrambling to survive the night it would have been a better movie. We don’t need all the extra baggage or drama.
I think if it was just that it would've gotten very boring and repetitive. It should've been Mike running from the animatronics in the building while uncovering and solving mysteries it could've been far better. But nah they made it dookie dogshit for clowns.
Yep that is a problem if PR sends a wrong message "its horror" and we releasing it near Halloween to futher increase these impressions. I went in with no expectation and I enjoyed it. It wasn't the best film but for a indi dev and low budget its very well made.
My 10 year old and 8 year old absolutely loved the movie. As a 40 year old dad who knew nothing about the franchise, I enjoyed it. It wasn't going to be some stellar blockbuster for the discerning movie-goer, but it was definitely better than the Doom movie with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.
Did you like how horrible the take was that they used in the movie? The shoehorned in "but hey its just a theory" line being said almost angry for some reason. Wtf was that? Cameos do not make a movie good. This movie sucked.
Fun fact, according to MatPat they wanted him to say it even more aggressive, but he was uncomfortable with the take so they decided to go with the more subtle line found in the movie. @@spraragen88 Me and my friend liked it, sorry to hear you did not feel the same.
He didn't attack the dad because of daddy issues. He attackes him because he thought he was a kidnapper, of which he has horrific memories of his own brother being kidnapped. He overreacted and didn't think it through that it might be the kid's dad. The collectable is a battery thief that follows him around. As far as the adoption check... as the brother, he doesn't get it because he didn't adopt her. If the aunt gets custody and adopts her, she gets a government check every month. It's a California thing. The rabbit reveal at the end reminded me of Ultron. "No strings on me."
I took my son who's 12 to the cinema to see it as he grew up with fnaf and honestly he loved it all the kids in the cinema loved it. So to me it was pretty amazing just getting to share that moment with my son specially when he became friends with the kid beside him talking about fnaf and the characters. I agree though Mike and his whole story was shit and shouldn't of been in the movie i dont know the fnaf story line or anything like that but yeah mike was depressing 😅
Yknow Joe, you are always about the audience experience and make a point in mentioning "the audience cheered, there were some laughs, everyone was having a good time" etc. I wonder if watching this opening night with a packed theater would have changed your mind, since audience participation is usually important during your reviews.
He would have given it a worse score , the kids in my theater thought this movie was the perfect time to debut their stand up comedy careeer mfs we’re literally T-postin in front of the screen when refilling drinks or popcorn or whatever it was the worst movie going experience I’ve had to date
I haven't seen it myself, I plan to, but I think people are going in expecting a more adult horror film. Even the games aren't that scary, just more about tension building. It really sounds like it's kid level horror, which I'm fine with as that's the demographic, and I'm a big scaredy cat and can't deal with horror XD Edit: No idea why Joe wants blood and gore etc when nothing like that was in the games. I think Joe wants a more adult horror movie when these should be on the same level as what Goosebumps were growing up.
The games success was only because of the horror factor like tf😂, everyone that knows Fnaf knows that the suits kill people in horrible ways, in the first game when u would lose and it would show a scene of u shoved in a freddy suit with ur fucking eyes hangi n out of ur sockets so gore and blood r definitely in the game and lore .
@@austinsanchez4694 I really~ don't remember that scene. And what you show and what you tell completely decide on rating. Yes the lore is horrifying but you never actually see it.
@@CmdrBrannickhe is right, there is gore in the games. On the death screen of fnaf 1 the eyeballs are resting on the freddy mask. That being said, dude above didn't have to be a dick about it and could've just explained a couple instances where gore is shown.
The actual story of Afton involves murder and psychopathic tendencies......give me that afton. Give me the real story of afton. This is a fanfic and dishonor the actual lore. I didn't pay for a custody battle. I paid for fnaf.

I loved Mario Brothers, apparently fans of the FNAF games liked this movie. Alex getting angry about these films and saying not to support them as you will just get more is silly as people do want more. The fans did like these films and want more like them.
Because you guys watch movies as fans and gobble up the references/cameos and call it a good movie. I'm a fan of both franchises and can look at both and see they're mediocre movies
I don’t know why some people seem almost angry that a movie made for the fans is being enjoyed by the fans. I guess it’s because it didn’t cater to them specifically. It’s fine if some people didn’t like the movie, but that doesn’t mean they have to rub it in the faces of those who did.
Well touch luck, my friend, because guess what? I am not a fan of Fnaf. I haven't been a fan since the 4th game, where i got very bored of it, and i thought they were starting to milk it. Nowadays i am neutral towards the franchise. In fact, my brother and i went to the movies to laugh laugh at the movie for how cringe we thought it would be. @@abysmalreign2207 Nevertheless, the movie surprised me positively in a big way. I liked the movie but I do wish that one of the nights would have been mike shutting the doors to stop the animatronics. And I wish the movie was 30 minutes shorter.
for me the most disappointing scare of the movie was the Foxy jumpscare. That had so much potential, and they fucked it up by having him teleport in front of the camera, instead of running down the hallway like he does in the game
But he did run down the hallway....
@@Apac12 if you call teleporting to the camera and then proceeding to float towards it “running”,then yeah he he sure did.

I mean it’s pretty obvious people who played and grew with the games liked it and people who don’t know anything about it won’t care and won’t like it
Same, I like the movie, but get the people who might have not liked it. I guess this movie was more of a movie for the fans.
It's called a "guilty pleasure"
Bascially me with Starfield.
You know for a game all about jump scares the movie had like 3.
@@firstlast9846 But there was a phone guy the first night
And they were all mostly balloon boy😂
Literally nothing happens in the first hour. I felt like I was watching a Daytime TV drama about an Alcoholic Single Father fighting for custody of his daughter. Then the monsters finally show up, and they immediately take the mystique and horror out of them by having the little girl and security guards become their friends
3 of the same jumpscare 🤣 and the last one doesn't even make sense
Given its insane haul on opening weekend, it was going to get a sequel no matter what happened in the ending.
Also wondering if they're setting up Vanny.
Appreciate their effort. Lol. What shit standards you have and think it is ok

I’m not a fan of the series, but I respect it.
Without RUclipsrs it wouldn't be anything, the creator got lucky and capitalized on it

It's a good flim to me

He also takes a moment to be condescending and insinuate that anyone who views a movie differently than him requires "velcro shoes" ironically
True... although bias sometimes is apparent. But thats okay we all are biased. But i agree with you that Alex explains it the best of the bunch
Alex is extremely good at being a prick who looks down his nose at anyone who likes things that he doesn't.

Odds are, the movies are going to be entirely seperate because there's not really a good way to connect the movie to the games.
@@mrjtfang2 Oh it'd be entirely possible to do so. Help wanted already established that the first 4 games were "Created by a rogue indie developer".
I think is was more so they were going to destroy everything even the cameras to make it seem like Michael did it himself to get him fired
This movie is for the fans. As was already said. It had a pg13. And it should have been more adult. And it should be longer. BUT if you like the games. Know the lore. It's an amazing movie of a game. Fnaf was never really about gore or supper horror.
Exactly, I have seen so many people bring up the lack of gore and it needing to be R Rated....Thats not FNAF. It never has been.
That’s kind of unrealistic to expect, in my opinion. The ages of the fanbase range from kids all the way to adults. Having the movie be rated R really limits the amount of people who can watch it.
@blueflare3848 bro this is not faithful.....it's a fanfic.
Can the movie actually be scary at least? At least build up tension and have some good jump scares? Isn't that what the game is known for?
It's not really meant for kids. I have to agree it's meant to have an R rating.

i myself really enjoyed this one. it wasn't really what i was expecting, but i left the theater with a big smile on my face 😊
What experience would be different? I hope you arent implying anyone over 5 would be remotely frightened by this.
I think this is one of those movies where if you're a big fan of the games you'll like the movie but a casual fan or someone not familiar with the games wont like it
Basically it's not a surprise as Joe made it upfront from the news video that he never cared much for it.
I just finished watching it and i thought it waz great!! I didnt know it was based on a game. I like almost all movies with ghost children though.😂
Tbh I didn't know anything about the game and I enjoyed it.
Pretty terrible way to make a movie if you want it to expand the fan base. Which is presumably the point of making the movie… otherwise just make another game 🤷♂️

Just the way he said Scott cawthon I knew there was no way joe was gonna enjoy this movie
If a movie requires you to dick ride its creator in order to enjoy it then it's not a good movie
Im a fan of the games and the movie unfortunately was kind of a let down
Since politics are a factor, it's hard to take any outside criticism seriously but this should have come out at the height of the game's popularity.
PG 13 ruined the hell outa the movie…
The movie would’ve been shit regardless of Scott’s donations to Trump.
It failed at being a good movie.
@@spraragen88 Nah, jusy in horror
The people who would even go watch this movie don't care about movies. They want game lore and references and fanservice. They don't want a good movie. They got a massage from Scott and left happy and that's all they wanted so good for them. The movie itself is still bad.
As a fan, I am definitely a little disappointed with some things. But also as a fan, I liked it and give it a 6/10
If they put Markiplier in the movie, "fans" would have gave it a 10/10
As a non-fan who is familiar with all the lore that MatPat has layed out over the years, but haven't played the games myself because I hate jumpscares... I LOVED the movie and its subplot about the robots wanting Mike's sister and I gave it a 6/7. Is it cliche with the whole "main character has to realize what is most important to him and let go of the past"? Yes, but I am also a huge softie.
@TotallySearch and that's the problem. Rabid fans just give mediocre films a pass because there's cameos and references
@@PikaLink91I wouldn't say cliché
Are you afraid of the dark and goosebumps is scarier than this movie
👏👏👏👏Yeah i like alex but that comment was a little ridiculous just for a movie
Like Goosebumps, then?
@neo-didact9285 goosebumps was one of the choices, yes. Is there an issue with multiple choices in regards to introducing scary movies? There's also are you afraid of the dark and tales from the crypt. The fact that they exist doesn't change what I said. It's a good introduction to scary. Without being over the top. Just because there's a few doesn't mean there can't be any more... unlike goose bumps, fnaf is modern and something they grew up knowing, so it was exciting to them to see it. My kids weren't born in the 90's lol so goosebumps is just an old book to them.

Lmao yea totally cause golden Freddy was so spooky.
I think the problem is that they went into this expecting a full on horror movie when FNAF has never fully been about horror. It was a very bleak and depressing story about trauma, child murder, and some dark humour. It's more of a thriller than anything.
Fnaf wasn’t even suppose to be fnaf just blew up lol
Bro it's objectively a horror game franchise in the horror genre, stop your coping.
@@Apac12 Play Security Breach, and then tell me it's horror
@@chainsaw8507this is based on fnaf 1 not security breach.
I believe that's the main problem with the franchise, just seems to be a jumbled mess if ideas, barely related, who's only purpose is to make Mattpat wrong each time he seems to have a coherent plot theory (you can't convince me that ScottCawton doesn't just throws to the trash plot details just to mess with Mattpat because he called shot right)
All in all, the movie sounds like a faitfull FNAF story
Not everything has to be made into a movie.
To be fair, This movie is purely for the fan base and it does a fantastic job of appealing to the FNAF fans
I expected them to fuck it up, and its actually super respectful to the story and lore and sets it up for future games/movies
wish they would have gone harder into the horror elements.
Dude theirs no CGI their really there. Jim Hansen the maker of the muppets made them and watch Dawco behind the scenes videos their so cool!
@@austinsanchez4694 I mean, the girl getting bit in half is more gore than the first game
@austinsanchez4694 but that's false. We have a character that is hardly bad get bitten in half on screen. The eyeballs being there is barely anything than the viewable motion of a person being literally bitten in half.
Kinda ridiculous for GAME reviewers to be reviewing a video game movie without actually playing the games
19:20 Amazing characters, I was so invested in the custody battle
My kids loved it..... didn't expect it to be anything more than that
I had fun watching it. That was all I wanted from it.
What’s ironic is if they had just stuck him in the room from the game and had him scrambling to survive the night it would have been a better movie. We don’t need all the extra baggage or drama.
but i ordered Pasta
Disagree. The FPS sequence at the end with Karl Urban was better than anything in FNAF.
That Doom movie was terrible.. almost anything is better than that movie.. it's not a high bar to surpass..
Lol Alex’s face in the beginning says it all
I liked that they got RUclipsrs like MatPat in it
Did you like how horrible the take was that they used in the movie? The shoehorned in "but hey its just a theory" line being said almost angry for some reason. Wtf was that? Cameos do not make a movie good. This movie sucked.
Fun fact, according to MatPat they wanted him to say it even more aggressive, but he was uncomfortable with the take so they decided to go with the more subtle line found in the movie. @@spraragen88
Me and my friend liked it, sorry to hear you did not feel the same.
@@TheBlueArmageddon That's so crazy. It only proves that the director is a hack and should be blacklisted.

But is it really shot or that's just your opinion
So they made a horror film for kids?
I haven't seen it but a lot of stuff with William Antonio purple guy/springtrap is a very important part of the games and the lore
You basically liked the social connections that are being made because of the movie and not because of any merits from movie itself.. good to know.
This is like saying "I took my kid to Chuck E. Cheese once, so now it's my favorite restaurant because he giggled a couple times while we were there"
Yknow Joe, you are always about the audience experience and make a point in mentioning "the audience cheered, there were some laughs, everyone was having a good time" etc.
I wonder if watching this opening night with a packed theater would have changed your mind, since audience participation is usually important during your reviews.
Pretty sure they would have absolutely hated all the 10 years old screaming like banshees at every single reference.
It really sounds like it's kid level horror, which I'm fine with as that's the demographic, and I'm a big scaredy cat and can't deal with horror XD
Edit: No idea why Joe wants blood and gore etc when nothing like that was in the games.
And in fnaf 3 you can see the intestines wrapped around the internals of the suit and purple guy's rotting corpse inside of the suit in a couple instances.
Spring trap is pretty gorey
"whoever velcros your shoes in the morning" KILLED ME XD hahahaha
Ironically whenever Scott tries to be more mainstream the fanbase would get angry.
I enjoyed it it could have been better but it is a good movie. Wish they implemented the nights better into the story
I really need to start giving the timestamp for every time y'all have me laughing hard enough that I remember to Like the video.
15:55 Dammit Alex XD Ya got me again
I loved Mario Brothers, apparently fans of the FNAF games liked this movie. Alex getting angry about these films and saying not to support them as you will just get more is silly as people do want more. The fans did like these films and want more like them.
The fans are enjoying it purely because of the brand recognition.
@@funkrobot9762Uhhh, no? people enioy it because it is a good, faithful adaptation.
@@abysmalreign2207
Nevertheless, the movie surprised me positively in a big way. It is a clear passion project, and a really faithful adaptation of the first games, which i have played. I appreciate it.
100% agree with Joe on this one. Fell asleep 3x trying to watch. So boring. Maybe it's better in theaters with crowd reaction. I'll try again during daylight, but I can't imagine I missed anything good. PRO TIP: Make sure to watch CHUCKY before you cancel your sub.
I liked the movie but I do wish that one of the nights would have been mike shutting the doors to stop the animatronics. And I wish the movie was 30 minutes shorter.
