    I've had my parlor palm since I was a kid. So its 40+ years old. It is now just one stalk and at least 10 feet tall! Lucky I have high ceilings in my house. It just sprouted seeds which is always cool. My "life plant" I call it. :)

    Mine flowered many times ,rn it has 2 flower stems that I am waiting for to flower :'). I never colected the seeds or did anything with it ,plant propagated itself ,seeds fell into the pot and they grow all by themselves xd. Now when I am more into plants I will help it propagate but just so you know that is pretty easy to care for and even flower. I have mine now for about 10+years and it was my first house plant ,I got it as a gift. You can forget about it and it will be just fine. The easiest plant to care for in my opinion :)

    I've not seen any videos about how to take care of an older one of these. They are certainly slow growing in low light. My great aunt has had one growing in her house for at least 15 years and probably longer. The window for that room faces north into a tree covered alley. The tops of some fronds have just about reached the ceiling, but the plant looks healthy and green. Its a trip how static they look and feel in that state. I felt the leaves and thought they were fake plants at first, but then noticed that they had a mild case of spider mites!
    I read the nurseries often plant many seedlings in one pot, and they thin out over time. In her pot, I remember seeing that there were 3 stalks. This is certainly a plant that will be nice to watch over a long period of time.

      @@GoodGrowing I hope so too! They're so beautiful :) This year I started taking care of one that's at most 6 years old that a family member gave to me, so I'm still learning about them. I don't know when I should rotate them so the leaves will grow in normal directions. x) A sudden obsession with palms motivated me to buy some baby ones I saw at store so I can start watching how they grow from that stage as well :3

    Just bought one of these 2 weeks ago! Some of my bottom leaves turned yellow and then noticed the yellow leaves are now turning brown so confused why since I water once a week🤷🏼‍♂️ it also has a few brown tips so maybe it’s the lack of humidity (dry spring) - would misting a parlour Palm help them with lack of humidity? Should I feed it liquid fertilizer? I’m not sure if the store fertilized it before I bought it so didn’t want to over fertilize

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  3 года назад +1

      So unfortunately yellowing leaves will always die off eventually. They may be a sign of overwatering. Do you check the soil before watering or stick to a schedule?
      Misting could help with the humidity or you could put it on a pebble tray.
      As for fertiliser, liquid would be fine as long as it's diluted to the right amount

      The only time I've experienced this is when my plant was thirsty. They do like to stay a bit moist so maybe pick up the watering. I'd say water when the soil is dry 50-75% of the way down. Good luck!

So here's my dumb newbie question.. inside a sleeve (saw this term googling) how does it drain? Do I need to tip the water out sometimes or does it just evaporate quickly enough? Or do I need to take the plant out of the sleeve and water it then put it back once it's drained?

    I had to repot my baby bella two times because I couldn’t get the soil to drain and the root ball has been staying dripping wet 😭
    My final potting is right back in a nursery pot and she seems happy. She is growing and looks happy. Does that mean I hopefully didn’t hurt her?? My last repot was about 2 days ago. How soon would I see signs of shock? Instinct told me to be super gentle with the roots. I put in new dry soil hoping it would absorb some of the water from the root ball soil (which I left intact). However, I did lightly water it after the repotting was done 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I was given a parlour palm (or that's what i was told it was) by a friend who split her huge one down into several plants. its got two fronds, one dies back as another grows. it looks quite sad at the moment, as you said, probably from the root disturbance. its currently in my kitchen, Im now trying to figure out how to create humidity...thanks for a great video! :)

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  2 года назад +1

      The kitchen is a great place for humidity as it'll raise while you're cooking. Hopefully in time it will recover from the shock and start growing fuller again!

    What does your moisture meter read when you water it? My moister meter guide says to water if it is at or below 4 but the soil still feels damp. Also the plant card it came with said to not let the soil dry out between waterings?

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  2 года назад

      I tend to water if its anywhere in the 'DRY' section and that usually feels pretty dry too. I find the cards plants come with are tough to follow as it'll depend on so many different things like the light its getting, the temperature, and the humidity

    I've had one of these for about two years now, when I got it, it was 4 inches tall and came in a pot mixed with different plants, I separated them, and put the palm in its own pot, now it's about 6 inches. I'm starting to believe that I planted it in too big of a pot. could doing that stunt its growth?

    • @urwow9
      @urwow9 3 года назад +2

      It possibly could if your plant is spending too much energy in growing roots to fill in the bigger space

    What does it mean when the leaves have white spots /: I don’t think they’re mealy bugs because they don’t come off when I wipe them which makes me think they might be lime spots? Help :(

    Question about pot size - do they like space or to be in a smaller pot per their size. How do they tolerate being (or do they like to be) somewhat root bound? Mine seems... lacking... and after seeing the one you have here I'm wondering if mine is in too big of a pot.

    • @GoodGrowing

      It’s hard to say without seeing but I found my pot to be good size for the plant. Given I have parted with this plant since making the video so long run I can’t say

    My parlor palm has seemed to droop to one side and I notice some browning at the base of the stem. I am trying to control the watering and think I kept in too much light for a while. What should I do?

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  3 года назад +1

      It might have been trying to grow towards the light. Slight browning at the base of the stem can be normal as long as it's not super dark and mushy (that means rot)

      It's up to you and whether you like the look of them. Do note that the plant is probably giving energy to them. So if you don't like how they look cut them off.
