About the "JoJo inspiring YGO", there were a couple of anime episodes/manga chapters in 'JoJo Part 3: Stardust Crusaders' in which Jotaro Kujo, the JoJo of that series, and his friends are in Egypt and face off against the "villain of the week", a gambler named D'Arby. The gimmick of this confrontation was that if D'Arby won any kind of bet, he would take the soul of the loser and add to his collection of already-captured souls. Two of Jotaro's companions lose to D'Arby and have their souls taken. To win their souls back, Jotaro challenges D'Arby to a game of poker. To conclude this "fight", Jotaro bluffs so hard to the point that D'Arby psyches himself out and becomes unable to call, despite having a nigh-unbeatable hand and the dealer being in cahoots with him. D'Arby admits defeat in his heart, which allows the souls of Jotaro's friends to be freed. Kinda reminds you of a shadow game from season 0, does it not? BTW, the episodes in which this takes place are 34-35 of part 2 of 'Stardust Crusaders', or 60-61 if you wanna count the episodes in the first part. If that description wasn't enough, there is also the naming conventions that JoJo and YGO share. As previously mentioned, every part in JoJo has its main protagonist have "Jo" twice in their names (although sometimes "Jo" is spelled differently and other times may require a different reading in Japanese for it to work), which is similar to how every protag in YGO has "Yu" in their names. Also, starting with Part 3, JoJo introduces Stands as the series' battle convention, which are like spirits emanating from a user that can do whatever the author wants it to do. And Atem in YGO is a spirit living in Yugi and has his own special powers like Mind Crush. To top it all off, there's the Egyptian inspirations. The following words are not originally mine, but you can say that Yu-Gi-Oh is a JoJo reference.
Also the fact that fights in JoJo are won via logic and trickery, in scenarios with strict rules. Also, the way monsters are summoned is similar to stands.
Funny I've been rewatching yugioh with a friend and we both constantly bring up how its like Jojos Everywhere they turn starts a stand battle/duel, which is a series of "Gatcha" moments. "My egyptian card is invincible" "My stand is invincible" Also the fights always go on for an episode longer than I'd like 😅
Goddess of Sweet Revenge is based on the card Kaiba used to stop the hair guy from shooting Kaiba in the head and the effect does a good job representing that scene
Dungeon Dice Monsters mini-arc is in the manga, but quite different - Duke/Otogi is not a fanboy of Pegasus, but he is forced to create DDM by his father who lost a Shadow Game against Yugi's grandpa many years ago. His face is mutilated, so he hides it under clown's mask. He stole Millenium Puzzle and forced Yugi to plan DDM, at the end the puzzle is broken (like in Bandit Keith match in the anime) which allows Yami Bakura to perform his parasite spell on one fragment.

I think the Number monster puns are deeper than what the segment said. For example, some of them are Japanese wordplay- Number 29: Mannequin Cat. If you read 2 as 'ni' and 9 as 'kyu' you get 'nikyu', meaning 'paw' Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction. 3 and 'acid' can both be read as 'san' Number 46: Dragluon. If 4 is 'shi' and 6 is 'roku' then you get 'shiro' included when you put it together, which means 'white'. Number 96: Dark Mist. If you read 9 as 'ku' and 6 is 'roku' you get 'kuro' included, which means 'black'. I just hoped it sounded interesting
3:12:20 Also remember that when manga-Yusei was being offered a possible wish, the vision he had of being "king of the future" involved becoming Z-ONE, sooo...
The Left and Right position is interesting with Shun(left) vs Sora(right) in Arc V, where we start the duel on Sora's side and suspicious of Shun, only for everything to be thrown on its head as the duel progresses.
Something really important about Indomitable Fighter Lei Lei: There is also a union monster called Protective Soul Ailin which equips specifically to Lei Lei and makes it so the card does not go in defense. This is a reference to Kurashima's real son who as tragically passed away a few hours after birth. A truly beautiful tribute that is worth mentioning.
Honestly i thought “That’s a yugioh card” was referring to a meme where someone would show a card and someone would reply with “thats a yugioh card” or “that is indeed a yugioh card of all time”as a way to say a card is bad, and has always been bad

To my knowledge, The Doomcaliber Knight Standard refers to the idea in retro format deckbuilding (around synchro era) that if an independently powerful normal summon (think thunder king rai-oh, reborn tengu, and breaker the magical warrior) is worse than Doomcaliber Knight, it isn't worth playing. This theory is outdated since modern understand of those formats is that Doomcaliber Knight is actually pretty terrible outside of decks like Dark Gaia which have additional synergy with the card.
3:14:15 Red Dragon Archfiend and archetype are based on William Blake's "Red Dragon" paintings. 4:14:55 "The Hanged Man" is the 12th Major Arcana card in the tarot. Arcana Force are all based on tarot cards. It represents a hanged traitor, and in divination represents a change of perspective.
Very cool video. Gonna have to watch it a few more spurts. I browsed the list and saw it doesn't mention much of the actual dark history of YGO such as cocaine/meth pedaling, GHopper85, and other less PC themes. Though I know you keep your channel pretty kiddo friendly and these are very 18+
I want to eventually own and play with the Rank 10 Trains or just the Train/Railgun deck in general in the physical TCG someday. Also, Anna Kaboom is my favorite YGO! Zexal character, she’s very fun and it sucked that she got little screentime. P.S. The Yu-Jo Friendship card and the fact that the word Yu is used for almost all the protagonists is why I gave myself a nickname with Yujo in recent years.
2:06:40 I think it's talking about how in Magic monsters can't attack the turn their summoned and when they can they can attack your opponent directly similar to toons.
Maybe lacks a little more of topics: Judai (Jaden) being the only gay protagonist in the game, where is Jean Michel Roger?, Shin Yoshida Writing Pattern in series, How the Big 5 lost their bodies on the travel of virtual world?, Yuya and Yuzu induced volunteer permanent Schizophrenia when they fuse with their counterparts, as well as Reira fusing with Z-ARC and Ray, GX Chronologic errors, Yuga being the Rush Duel Creator, how his time travel affects the future, the existance of the Velgearians because Otes and Yuga final duel in Sevens, Unified world at the End of ARC-V, mixing Akaba Leo's World with the other four, where is the AI Partners of AI?, what happens with Bandit Keith in Duel Monsters after that duel when he was possessed by Marik?, inconsistence in Raphael's Growth in Orichalcos Arc, OCG Structures existing in Duel Monsters Universe?, Dark Magician Girl Cameo in GX is canon or even possible?
Another correction: Errata Theory specifically refers to the conspiracy theory that there are certain words you should never google because they're like, mind control or can kill you or whatever, and Errata is one of those words, but that obviously isn't true because erratas exist in yugioh
With the Zexal episode change at 2:47:32 the only other time that I can think of something similar happening was Spectacular Spider Man Season 1 Episode 5 was originally going to have the Human Torch make a guest appearance, but it had to be scrapped when the team found out that they could only use Spider-Man characters. We still see it in some of the episode descriptions for that Episode nowadays.
I believe there was an interview in which Takahashi confirmed that Jojos was a huge influence on the way he created manga. So while it may not have been a direct inspiration, Yugioh was definitely informed by JJBA.
Thank you to everyone involved in the making of this video, and to the person who created the iceberg! I had so much fun learning about so many things I had no idea of! This will be one of those videos I frequently put on in the background as I do chores around the house 😊
If I were to guess, the "Unique effect" could be referring to effects before PSCT where stuff like "unite the deck and graveyard" or "regardless of position" were used that weren't used in most other cards I would also say that for "Videogame composers", it might also be referring to how the music for Yugioh games, particularly Duel Links and Master Duel, are really really well composed and designed, but it's a shame that the game itself is sometimes not well composed or designed Red Dragon Archfiend's broken arm is a referring to Scarlight's arm looking like a cast, being a reference to Junk Warrior beating Red Dragon Archfiend in the final clash of 5Ds
Im from Latin America (Uruguay)! I never knew the Gx latam dub was considered awkard by the community...its the one I grew up watching and it made me into a fan of the show (still to this day!). I also saw it in english and japanese (yep i love it that much). Can't really think of any outstanding line from the latam dub, i think the english ones are more memorable ("shmaden shmuki", anyone?), but maybe this is because I interact with the english speaking fanbase more. I DO remember some name changes: Aster/Edo Phoenix was changed to Astro Fenix. And I think chazz it up was changed to "chazzear"
Just to clarify, no one is saying Carly's actress wasn't in a cult, as she definitely provably was. They are saying that by the time that scandal became known the series has already changed course, so the only thing it did was make them replace the actress. Also, she wasn't the victim who died in a hospital which exposed the cult. That was a different woman. Carly's actress was just found to be a member. The reason for Carly and Jack romance stopping is the writer responsible for writing that romance leaving the show. The reason for the cult pivot is probably the fact that 5Ds being too dark was costing them ratings, so they tried to course correct with a lighter season 2 with less serialization. As Zexal and Sevens being popular show, Japanese audience prefer Yugioh less serialized and lighter.
No, Zexal had World Duel Carnival, which released in America on the 3DS Eshop, and had a shit ton of content cut from it in the American release. Tag Force games released for Arc V, not sure about Zexal.
Definitely adding this to my yugioh education playlist. I think for the gods part, it could be mentioned that other cards were suppose to be considered diving beast as well. Cards like the wicked gods (from the manga), the chaos beasts (from GX), the Nordic gods (5Ds) to name a few. I used to have Joey’s shoes. And yes we are still watching the end part. Lol
There were a few episodes in GX where they explains how the cards are made in the show and I think it’s similar to how cards are made in the trading card game. Rather than have 1 artist make independent art under the koonami/yugioh brand, they have a department of employees who work on parts of the art to make one whole card art so. To add to it, when taking credibility into account, it’s possible they have their own nda that the employees sign that their stuff will be under the yugioh koonami brand so there’s no need for a specific artist credit. In my opinion of course. In terms of the “that’s a yugioh card”, it’s a reference to when someone asks if something exists the response would be “that’s a yugioh card” as if it’s been done already or considered.
As someone from Latin America I have no idea what the dub one refers to. GX was actually more popular here than in the US but that is partically because it was one of the only few good shows the channel even had.
The broken arm of red archfiend is a reference of the ending of 5Ds where Junk Warrior and Red archfiend D collided with their arms but Junk warrior was too much powerful, so thats why in ArcV Jack Used that Red archfiend as reference
Toons being a parody of Magic is considered because there's a SHOCKING amount of overlap between the Toon mechanics. They can't be played unless there's a card that doesn't do anything on the field (lands), can't do anything for a turn (summoning sickness) and direct attack which is just Magic's combat mechanics. 2:19:35 If this was a joke it was executed... Sufficiently. But I don't get it. Left-Right duelist thing is common in Japanese media as a whole. It's a cinematography thing that I seem to recall was based on classical Japanese theatrical works. Super-Nimble Mega Hamster is on there because its Japanese name is just "Nimble Big Hamster" akin to other nimble monsters like Nimble Momonga. Jerome McHale posted on Pojo that the reason it's called "Super Nimble Mega Hamster" is because he shouted it over and over again in the offices until they agreed to name the card that. Number name puns is more specifically talking about the Japanese goroawase, where due to the way numbers are read they can make a different word. 39 (Utopia's number) is one of the most common, being read as "San-Kyu" or "Thank You" and there is a lot of goroawase used to connect to some of the themeing of the Number monsters, or their themeing was used to choose their number rather than them just being completely arbitrary. Some other examples are Heart-eartH (53, "Go-Mi", "Trash"), Crazy Box (85, "Ha-Ko", "Box"), Dark Mist (96, "Ku-Ro", "Black"). Etc.
I think concepts through gameplay refers to the way that some cards will have effects that reflect what the card does/is. Like a dragon will "burn" you through burn damage and its supposed to be shooting fire at you. there's one i saw recently that was a trampoline and bomb and it bounces a card and the burns you for like half the attack of the monster it bounced cause the trampoline bounces you and then blows up and burns you. dark magician is sorta like this cause the deck usually relies on a bunch of spells and the dark magician is a spellcaster. The effect a card is basically using the the effect to express a concept.
so the reason why "toons are a parody of magic the gathering" is because when they're summoned, they cant attack the first turn they're summoned, they have summoning sickness like the monsters of magic.
the "Konami hate pendulums" thing is something that fans tend to say when they refer to how Konami seems to treat pendulums post arc V era. There's only been a handful new pendulum decks since then, they dont really show up in vrains, there are more link monsters then there are pendulum monsters even though pendulums have been around longer, and even decks that sound like they should be pendulums aren't for some reason. like there's a ritual archetype that acts like monsters and spells but aren't pendulums and there's a couple of cards based of the odin's crows that sound like they should be pendulum monsters, but just aren't. That has changed a little bit more recently, they have been making some new pendulum cards and pendulum era support, but for a long time it felt like Konami hated pendulums to people who liked the mechanic and kinda abandoned it a little in favor of other playstyles.
the " yugioh female card list" refers to a list of cards on the yugioh wiki. you were halfway there cause the list exists because of cards like you said because of zombiestein that couldn't effect female monsters in the manga.
For the Chaos Neos/ Rainbow Dragon misprint I have an inkling of how it could have happened since I work in the Printing Industry. Granted I don’t know the specifics of how cards are printed but I can assume some similarities. The Company (in this case Konami) sends over a file containing everything they want printed and specific information on how they want them printed, the Printing Company then complies a new file with it laid out how it will be printed and sends that back to Konami for verification. Konami gives the all clear then it’s printed. At no point did anyone catch a single image was mixed up (it can happen if you don’t go through with a fine look) and that resulted in the misprint.
I always find the not reading meme funny because irl it is understandable, but on master duel there's no excuse unless you're newer or just lazy. You can ACTIVELY read their cards whenever you want without pausing the opponents turn. . . You have plenty of time where you can't do anything else BUT read their cards and it isn't like you even need to read every card either when a lot of modern decks use a good amount of the same cards or end on similar end boards.
Okay Im going to need a source on Kazuki Takahashi writing or illustrating for Kamen Rider, Ultraman, or Devilman. He worked with Marvel, yes, but he did Iron Man and Spiderman with them, but I see no evidence he worked on any of the non Yugioh series that were listed.
The only thing I can find is on his Wikipedia article where it mentions that he drew pictures of those mange as a child (The time of their release matches up with quite well)
The Upper Deck Seal of Orichalcos was kind of wrong. It was a card made only for Upper Deck employees to use against participants in a special event and was never released to the public making it one of the rarest cards as only 15 copies were printed apparently. The one shown in the video sold in 2022 for $26,000. The back is green colored like how the God cards have colored backs.
1:30:18 that's not how it works. The Master rules are the state of the Game board Master Rule 1 is DM and GX Master Rule 2 is 5D's and Zexal and it changed the Fusion deck to the Extra Deck and limited it to 15 Master Rule 3 is Arc V and added the Pendulum zones Master rule 4 is Vrains onwards and moved the Pendulum zones to the backrow and added the Extra Monster Zone That's why the reversion of the Link requirement isn't considered a new Master rule just an update to 4 as it doesn't change anything about the board 1:54:57 and this never made sense because of Ai. Firewall NOT being a Dark monster when Yusaku has the DARK ignis should have made it obvious that it wasn't his ace, and Sevens Road Magician should have furthered hammered that nail. I don't see people still trying to argue that the rival HAD to have a 3000 atk dragon so Reiji wasn't Yuya's so why can't just people accept this?
@@yuseifudo7987 that makes you wrong but go off I guess Unless you have a justification that actually makes sense as to why Yusaku's "ace" is not plot relevant in a way that addresses the very beginning of the series

Just finished the video! Great work, guys 🎉 I have learned so much more about this franchise now.
This is going to be great video
4 hours and 20 mins - I would binge a season of anime in that time ... jokes aside great job creating this Dylan 🤣🤣🔥🔥
Great Video, it was quite the ride but I love iceberg videos!
Yugioh everything doing the ice
Iceberg is incredible and awesome to see his first long formatted video
With breaks here and there i finally got through the iceberg! So much stuff here just amazing stuff!
YES! I've been waiting for this!
There has to be something of the sly abandoned plot or Naoki being earth partner or something
😊😊
😊
That's the typa content I love to see!!!
Video is a 10/10 Dyl and also the weakest card is THOUSAND-Eyes Idol not your friend Kuriboh you just bully him 😂 at 2:14:54
Another correction:
Errata Theory specifically refers to the conspiracy theory that there are certain words you should never google because they're like, mind control or can kill you or whatever, and Errata is one of those words, but that obviously isn't true because erratas exist in yugioh
Actually the word in question is I believe erratas or erratus which I believe was the first of the "if you Google this you die" conspiracies
lol Amazing 4hr + iceberg lul impressive Dylan ;s
Jesus, 4 hours Dyl? I’m ready
Well time to get comfortable imma be here for awhile
Omg it’s the yugivengers
in the new boku no hero trailer the villain says:
"it's my turn"
and deku replies "IT'S OUR TURN"
clearly a reference to modern yugioh
If I were to guess, the "Unique effect" could be referring to effects before PSCT where stuff like "unite the deck and graveyard" or "regardless of position" were used that weren't used in most other cards
I would also say that for "Videogame composers", it might also be referring to how the music for Yugioh games, particularly Duel Links and Master Duel, are really really well composed and designed, but it's a shame that the game itself is sometimes not well composed or designed
Red Dragon Archfiend's broken arm is a referring to Scarlight's arm looking like a cast, being a reference to Junk Warrior beating Red Dragon Archfiend in the final clash of 5Ds
You are a madman, Dylan...
Excuse me, Yu-Gi-Oh! Everything? Can you pretty please cover the Warrior of Zera Archetype in one of your future Videos?
Wow a long video by dlyan nice im gonna be watching it all every super mario 64 is personalized
4 hours and 20 minutes? Nice 😂👌
Gonna play the BO6 beta with this in the background
I really do remember the time to duel the CD. I have never had the CD album. Years later I have heard the songs on RUclips over the years.
Imma grab my 4 hours worth of popcorn
Time to clear 4 hours and 20 minutes of time
Just to clarify, no one is saying Carly's actress wasn't in a cult, as she definitely provably was.
I had to go back when you said the sun went down over the video at the end, and sure enough, you can see the light dim as time goes on.
No, Zexal had World Duel Carnival, which released in America on the 3DS Eshop, and had a shit ton of content cut from it in the American release. Tag Force games released for Arc V, not sure about Zexal.
Holy macrel, 4 hours?! This one is definitely gonna take a couple sittings to get through 😅
*mackerel
I’ve played falsebound kingdom way too many times. Definitely a game to be talked about.
Ok 4 hours?!? Jeez thats long
The reason Duelist kingdom is the way it is is because it predates the real life card game.
Me voy a meter estas 4 horas de video pero el qlo con mucho gusto ❤❤❤❤
Etc.
2:29:02 Don’t forget Topologina Nabee!
This is gonna be good
I would love to see you collab with tgs anime and talk about the idea he had for a “Yu-Gi-Oh Kai” or potential reboot
4:20:58! You was so close to greatness
That's insane!😂😂😂
Hope you enjoy!!
4 nerds talking about Ygo for 4 hours
Best way to spend my weekend
FOUR HOURS?!?!
(and a half)
Aye good to see the MCRP representation lol
Okay Im going to need a source on Kazuki Takahashi writing or illustrating for Kamen Rider, Ultraman, or Devilman.
He worked with Marvel, yes, but he did Iron Man and Spiderman with them, but I see no evidence he worked on any of the non Yugioh series that were listed.
Also what do you mean UDE Orichalcos is $6 on TCG player??? Its not even on there.
The only thing I can find is on his Wikipedia article where it mentions that he drew pictures of those mange as a child (The time of their release matches up with quite well)
Missing entries: Celebrity Yugioh and Leather Pants
Can you do a review of the time to duel live action film
holy crap!
American education system working wonders on learning world history
1:30:18 that's not how it works.
The Master rules are the state of the Game board
Master Rule 1 is DM and GX
Master Rule 2 is 5D's and Zexal and it changed the Fusion deck to the Extra Deck and limited it to 15
Master Rule 3 is Arc V and added the Pendulum zones
Master rule 4 is Vrains onwards and moved the Pendulum zones to the backrow and added the Extra Monster Zone
That's why the reversion of the Link requirement isn't considered a new Master rule just an update to 4 as it doesn't change anything about the board
1:54:57 and this never made sense because of Ai.
I don't know Firewall Dragon was and always in my eyes was Yusaku's Ace not Decode Talker
@@yuseifudo7987 that makes you wrong but go off I guess
Unless you have a justification that actually makes sense as to why Yusaku's "ace" is not plot relevant in a way that addresses the very beginning of the series
@@elemomnialpha Zaizen says that his ace is firewall and so did revolver but also the reason they didn't use firewall that much in the anime is also bec the duel script for vrains were hard to make and firewall in the real game was already creating problems and then got banned firewall only appeared in the anime 2 or 3 times in the entire show. Firewall in his evolved forms were dark attribute, Reiji's ace is a fiend not a dragon
What happened between Dylan and D/D/D??? my favorite deck
I am crying at the pronouncion of Boa Noite
Weird how the iceberg dosent include the yugioh 5ds mission Korean children incident
Please explain.
Also: *doesn't
@@christopherb501 during the 5ds era there was a campaign to spread awareness of missing children in Korea. The Korean government made Konami make card sized missing posters of the missing children, that were pull-able in regular booster packs with the other cards. The cards have yugioh designs and a picture of the child plus information about them.
Tier Zero does have a set percentage: 65%
Zexal is also pronounced without the X
after a month a finally finish this lmao I must say I don't remember the whole story but justin whang has a good video talking about the Chilean controversy, but it was one of those things that people blame tragedies on Yugioh for being a devilish game, their was a ton of rumours and misinformation about it
You should change the description to reflect the mistake made with Level 5 and Level 6 of the iceberg:
LEVEL 6 - 02:33:40
LEVEL 5 - 03:17:20
The unique card text thing isn't about Fur Hire.
It's about cards like Voltester that have unique wording to their effects ("Until there are no more to destroy") and older cards that say "Offer this monster as Tribute" or my favourite, Yado Karu's "in any order you desire"
