It’s not the electorate who choose our Prime Ministers, it’s the billionaire owners of our press
And Dan Hodges of The Mail on Sunday did a beautiful job right here, of proving my point.
Absolutely spot on ,marina ,and the gentleman had nothing to come back at you with . total respect to you 👍
So what you are basically saying is your average voter is as thick as two short planks.

That sums up British politics.
I bet he didn’t even know about the Blair/Murdoch family connection! That knocked him totally flat.
I'm sure he did know. It's common knowledge in media circles. What knocked him flat was someone else knowing, and using it against him. A lot of these alleged journalists have an interest in appearing to not know, or to persist with a line of thinking even when they know they're wrong because they appeal to those with the same line of thinking, and those people have a vote.
@@M2Mil7er ah didn’t know that - thanks for the explanation
Blair was so tight with Murdoch that he was in close enough proximity to be the cause of strife between Murdoch and his then-Missus (secret sleep overs etc).

I love it when people in the comments section think they have a clear understanding of the 'facts and truth'. Hubris.
@@andrewthomas695What did she say that wasnt correct?
Marina's refreshing lack of filter is so valuable in today's media.
Why did Murdoch back Blair? He didn’t until he had to, just six weeks before the GE.
Murdoch likes to think himself a King maker and someone who backs a winner, it was purely ego that made him back Blair because his preferred party was in the gutter.
Well said. Marina has this completely the wrong way round. The Sun backs winners, it doesn't make them. But of course someone in the media will always see things through the prism of the media controlling our lives and 'making' us vote for one party or the other.
Good work Marina 👍
Well said , certainly shut him up nicely .
Thank you for articulating why Blair was backed, as propagandists like Hodges seem to think he was some kind of socialist revolutionary when it suits their ridiculous argument
Labour were going to win by a country mile BEFORE the Sun chose to back them. They backed them because they wanted to be seen to back the winner. Purkiss has put the cart before the horse.
I totally agree , I saw this with my dad .
We were always working class and when my dad retired and had no hobbies he started buying the sun every morning .
Within a few short years it was like the Labour Party never existed and the Tories were the best at everything .
Even during the austerity years under Cameron and Osborne when my dad had half his benefits cut to the bone he was still a trumpeter for the Tories .
My elderly neighbour had a similar “transformation”. Went from being a grounded Labour voter to being hooked on Gammon News. Apparently it presents a balanced view and of course Netanyahu is not committing genocide and Israel can do no wrong. Scary that it’s not just newspapers brainwashing these old people. 💯 correct,
I watched the whole video, although it wasn’t really a debate, but it was incredibly informative. Especially around the topic of news organisations following “narrative”. A very revealing topic on how editors don’t think of the news as informing the people, but about the direction of the story. No facts or evidence will ever make them deviate from “the narrative”.

The British public have never had any say in who becomes Prime Minister, likewise we have no say on who becomes Home Secretary, or Foreign Secretary, we elect a party, and even then under our antiquated form of democracy millions of votes are deemed pointless under the First Past The Post system we use. All UK devolved parliaments use PR but the two main parties benefit from not using it.
If a psychopath is born into a lower socio-economic class, he enters prison. If he is born in a higher class, he goes to law school or business school, he usually continues according to the power scheme. The question is why don't people learn and change the system that is obviously harming them? The answer is that people defend the bad system they live in out of fear that it might get worse. So the fact that very few people buy newspapers these days should've made all the difference to voting patterns since the 60s and it should be much easier for Labour to beat the Tories.
Only it hasn't......
Every TV Channel discusses the front pages every day, bad news days for Tories means Harry and Meghan will be on the front pages....
You still have people like Alex Belfield (maybe not him right now lol..) Katie Hopkins and countless other youtubers/twitter trolls/facebook groups, etc reading MSM stories for money and telling thickos they're not. Print media is only important for the front page headlines, everyone sees in their local shops now (Same tactic Derren Brown uses to 'read minds', according to Derren Brown) but the inside pages are discussed on daytime TV/online and force fed to us all the time.

If wealth controls everything how can we have democracy and a 'free' press. I would say a 'free' press costs a great deal of money,!
So true
Another spot on analysis! I’m glad someone’s saying this stuff on tv. OMG!! you had Tanski on to!
You just got a new sub.
It seems that 'having a free press' today means that you have newspapers who feed news to their readers that they want to hear (isn't that what GB News said?!) rather than giving them news that is the unvarnished truth. News reporters have lost their way. So have the electorate befuddled by this trolling.
Given that only 15% of households buy a newspaper and only 350,000 people watch GB News I'd suggest you need another excuse for Labour's failure to reach beyond the immigrant community living in our inner-cities
@@PGHEngineer But UK MSM amplifies the newspaper's main points. They even have daily political shows, morning (moron ) TV, discussing and often promoting the headlines.
@Ghengiskhansmum Well I think the most watched news on the TV is BBC news with 4million viewers. The average age of BBC news viewers is 61. I put it to you these are the same older political nerds that are buying all the newspapers. Most of them are not about to change their political views anytime soon.
It is still the case that Labour's support base is limited to inner city areas whilst the Consrrvatives are supported by those in small towns and rural areas. Labour's support is 2/3rds from the immigrant community, whilst native British people are three times more likely to vote Conservative than Labour. These are the simple realities of Labour's failure to win elections.
If Labour wants to win more elections it needs more impoverished immigrants to spread out over the country into smaller towns. Its policies aimed at achieving that cause a backlash which serves the needs of the parties on the right.
@@PGHEngineerThey still have the power to set the agenda for the broadcast media to follow.
@@PGHEngineer Rubbish! Although most people do not buy newspapers, may more consume the same online.
What do you mean 'beyond the immigrant community'? Dark skinned people may have lived in the country for many generations to which we invited them?

Marina's point is: it's the opposite. The horse wins because Murdoch supports it.
Absolutely. Remember the "Stur Wars" headlines with Nicola Sturgeon photoshopped as Princess Leia when the SNP looked sure to win control of Holyrood? If there's one thing Murdoch hates more than leftists it's to be seen backing a losing horse.

My wife and i were so happy when Labour won in '97'. At long last the woeful tories, who had sold off everything, were defeated.
However, it gradually dawned on us that this was a Labour PM and govt that wasn't for the masses but for the establishment. It's the only reason they 'let' him have power.
It was a softer Toryist govt.
People point to the min wage as a success but it has now become the wage for so many people that used to earn more. Blair was just part of the establishments plan to grab back all the concessions that unions had earned us over the years.
Blair was a tool. An infiltrator with a trojan horse that led to troyified Labour. The establishment didn't want a real Labour party getting elected again. So they took it over with a load of friends of ISrael. Its appalling.
Absolutely right.
I don't think they have much say these days. 20/30 years ago absolutely yes but not now. They are yesterdays cold potatoes. Nobody goes to them for news now. Unless you are over 65 and a Daily Mail reader.
To do this the PM would have to be head of state and have their own office. ATM the PM is the leader of the biggest party. The head of state is the useless and impotent monarchy who cannot be voted out. So step ONE end the King's position as head of state. Two reforms the voting system to introduce proportional representation, and spearately elect a PM with real power to bring together the best ideas - and WHO CAN BE VOTED OUT.
Totally agree with you Marina, mainly The sun, Dailly Mail and Dailly express, I've been saying that for years.
Maybe any outlet advertising itself as a "news organization" should be non-profit and chaired by members of a professional standards body (in a similar ways that lawyers are).
I think it's more the voting system which only gives two choices .If people knew there vote was worth more then more people would vote and we'd get better Government by consent of the people not consent of the Media
Not my Labour #starmerstinks
Also unfortunately the main stream tv news channels get most of their stories from the press. Even discussing the front pages. BBC politics show has the papers spread out in front of them. They dont have many real reporters sourcing the news anymore. Channel four is a bit better usually.
No. Party members usually 'elect' their leader, who then has a shot at PM.

In 1949 Albert Einstein said. “When the very rich so controlled the means of communication that it would be almost impossible for ordinary people to make informed decisions and so democracy would then be broken”.
Einstein argued that private capital “tends to become concentrated in few hands”, resulting in “an oligarchy of private capital the enormous power of which cannot be effectively checked even by a democratically organized political society”.
“Moreover, under existing conditions, private capitalists inevitably control, directly or indirectly, the main sources of information (press, radio, education).
“It is thus extremely difficult, and indeed in most cases quite impossible, for the individual citizen to come to objective conclusions and to make intelligent use of his political rights.”
Very well copy pasted my Friend. 😂
