    I can't find the comment again, but I'm pretty sure it was a comment on this video that suggested using two hands to remove the old filter if it gets stuck. That worked for me! I did have to get my tall husband to use his leverage to install the new filter, but other short folks could use a stepstool to get at a better angle.

      You wouldn't need to turn off the water supply on any fridge that has the solenoid valve upstream of the filter, unless it's a rare event where the ice maker made a call to refill the very moment you had the filter off, and even then there may be a cutoff switch that senses when the filter is off.

    thanks for the easily explained video. One quick questions though. I moved into the new house on last July with existing refrigerator and filter. I haven't been using it and I was wondering if there is a way you can find if this filter is still usable or not.
    Thanks,

      Hi Ethan. It's hard to say. If the previous owners reset the filter light properly and it hasn't come on yet then you should still be able to use the filter without any problems, but there's no great way to tell. If you want to be on the safe side I'd say to pick up the replacement filter and install it. That way there's no doubt that it's good. Thanks for watching! -Carl

    Running two gallons through before drinking the water is unnecessary. One is more than sufficient. The black material that first comes out of the new filter is activated charcoal. It is harmless, but not pretty. Mine clears up in less that a gallon.

    ok...this may be obvious to most, but when it's the first time to replace a filter, it is important to know how to turn the water source off before removing the filter. I pulled the fridge out look behind it for a turn off valve only find it didn't have one to turn off!! water was pouring into the fridge. the faucet was somewhat hidden under the sink, and only on my second time closing off the faucets did I find the one to the fridge.....I had a huge mess to clean up in the fridge....Now I know how to do it!

    • @stinkycheese804

      Depends, not all people use the same amount of water and not all water has as many minerals or other impurities in it, so don't need their filter changed as often. Personally I would wait for the water to start tasting worse or if the flow rate decreases, but then I am not that picky about filtering the water here, had a fridge without a filter for two decades and was fine with that. They do make a bypass plug for some models if you don't feel the need for a filter.

      @@lisad9491 Even if you turn the water off, there is still enough back pressure to spray everywhere. You need to turn water off and drain the fridge or put bucket under filter whilst changing. All other fridges have a valve that closes when you remove filter, this one either doesn't work or is bad design.

    He makes it look easy but it was difficult. When you remove the filter, you have to use some force because it gets sucked in by the water pressure. After that you have to fill the new filter with some water, so you don't get the air bubbles. After that you have to move the new filter around to look for the crevices to align. Please do look up more videos to get the right information.

      I agree.... not that easy. I have tried 3 different filters and am still unable to get it installed and this is not the first time this has happened. UPDATE! My mechanical friend found the problem. The gasket?/ O ring? from the previous filter was stuck, thereby not allowing the new filter to fit. He removed the piece and the new filter went right on. So in the future I'll check the filter being replaced to be sure it is intact.

    I have a GE fridge that uses the MWF filter. The fridge is 2.5 years old and I replace the water filter every six months. I've never had a problem replacing the water filter until yesterday. After I replaced the old MWF filter with the new one inside the fridge's main compartment, I tried to flush the system by pressing the drinking water button on the outside of the fridge. Unexpectedly, no water came out. I'm guessing there is an air pocket in the water line because the problem remained when I put the old MWF filter back on. The fridge also stoping making ice last night. If there is an air pocket in the line as I suspect, how can I remove it?

      Are you a midget? I watched 10 seconds of the video, unscrewed it, dropped it out, put the new one up, turned it to the right until it stopped, and then I ran the water until air stopped coming out. That was the easiest filter change of anything I’ve ever done in my life.
      And no, dummy - anything with the line that runs through a filter cannot run without the filter...

    I cant get my old filter off. Is there some kind of wrench/tool that would work? Don't want to damage anything.

    • @williechan347
      @williechan347 5 лет назад

      I'd suggest you don't use ANY wrench to change the filter. This is a hands only maneuver. Get a nice grasp on the filter, firmly with one hand, push the filter up, slightly then turn it, to the left (counter-clockwise). It should come off with only one slight turn. Do this same procedure, BACKWARDS, to install new one.....voila!!!

      @Joan Bongiorno Most models will have a button on the dispenser that you'll need to hold down for 3-5 seconds to reset the filter light. It will depend on which refrigerator you have. If you purchased it from Abt you can send your information to youtube@abt.com and we can take a look.

    I just replaced my filter (the MSWF kind, but very similar to this) and now the water line seems to be "burping" as if there is air in the line... is this normal?

    • @abtelectronics
      @abtelectronics  9 лет назад +2

      +chambchan It's a pretty normal. Manufacturers suggest simply running a couple gallons through whenever you put a fresh water in. This purges out the air bubbles, and also helps clear out any loose particles of the filter material.

    • @abtelectronics
      @abtelectronics  8 месяцев назад +1

      @danielclark5049 You can install it dry. Just remember to run a few gallons of water through it before you start drinking the water. That allows any loose sediment to filter out of the line.

    • @abtelectronics
      @abtelectronics  Год назад

      @rachaelvreeke433 They can be difficult to remove sometimes if they've been in for a long time. If this method isn't working you may need to wrap a towel around the bottom of the filter and use a larger channel lock wrench to twist it so you can get more torque. Just double check to ensure it's being turned the correct way. Hopefully this works for you!

      It filters several things, so if you don't care to lose the ability to trap certain things and just want it to flow better again, then you can try a soak and flush with vinegar, then soak and flush the vinegar out with water. If you don't care if it's filtering at all, some refrigerator models have a (bypass) plug you can put in its place so the filter is not used, not installed.
