Excellent!!! Thank you so much for all the hard work. I visited this spring and it is an incredible place, full of incredible residents who do great honour to everyone involved.
Nicely done. Great video. Despite it's 'failure' Market Garden was actually the fastest allied advance against German opposition in the entire September 1944 to February 1945 period. Nearly 100km of German held ground taken, and kept, in just 3 days. Compared to the Hurtgen Forest and Metz etc debacles that same autumn, Market Garden seems like a rip roaring success.
Thank you for this video. I myself will be in Holland in a few days, as a WW2 reenactor at the Battle Wheels Camp Oosterbeek . As an ex British soldier and veteran of more recent conflicts, I am looking forward to seeing Holland again and commemorating the Battle..
7.56. A Commando (note the combined Ops badge on his shoulder and lack of smock) probably from the Dutch Liason Mission of 12 Dutch commandos from 2 TROOP / 10 Inter Allied Commando. Makes sense as he is talking with resistance members.
Fantastic and painstakingly researched. It's poiniontcy is more startling as the pictures state the story. On this first day (15 Sept and the anniversary of this ill fated operation "Market Garden") is very well put across... BRAVO
I have a book on the American Civil War that features photographs from then and now. Seeing famous battlefields from back then and then seeing them as to what they look like today adds a whole new perspective to the historic photographs especially seeing those areas come to life today. Seeing the streets, the houses and buildings as well as the fields in Holland during Operation Market Garden and then seeing the changes as well as the similarities from today helps us bring history to life. Thanks for the video and especially other "Then And Now" videos that you come out with. I really want to see those as well.
It proofed to be really hard to look for the spots in The Netherlands since we had the great idea to introduce American style roads in the 60s and a lot of old buildings on the main street were destroyed.
God bless your dad, soldiers like him really gave it all and the operation libirated a lot of people, because of this they did not suffer in the hunger winter.
Check out some of The World At War video series on DVD. I remember watching that series some years ago and it covers from beginning to the end of WW2 and one video showed the allied assault on Holland in Operation Market Garden. The one scene that was blocked out because of RUclips requirements was where British paratroopers were walking past the staff car of a German general whose driver had made a wrong turn and drove into a British roadblock. The troopers opened fire killing the general. That scene showed his body hanging halfway out of his car with his head on the ground and his legs and feet still in the car. It's pretty obvious from the photos and video that he was shot in a hail of bullets. Also there is a photo of that scene in Cornelius Ryan's book "A Bridge Too Far". A great book about Operation Market Garden that later was turned into a movie.
@@noahellis3672 I have the 'World At War' DVD's. I was just wondering if the un-blurred versions of thus particular footage were online somewhere. Did you recognize any of the clips in the video from 'World At War?'

It was seen as a succes back in 1944, it's because of media after the war that they made it a failure in everybodys eyes.

How do you get access to the uncensored versions of these films that RUclips won't show?
I will upload them for members on a special channel, but it's a busy week and haven't gotten to it yet. My apologies.
