Hello! Today I'm taking you into a day in the life as a postdoctoral research associate - which basically means I continue doing my research and teach a class each semester! I'm only a few weeks into this new role and though each day looks different, on this day I met up with some grad students then spent most of my time prepping for my class, where I led a discussion and debate about whether health is a right or commodity. Hope you enjoy this sneak peek into my new daily life!

So refreshing to see African women pursuing their education and pursuing their careers. Also great that your husband is so supportive - very inspiring.
I am not sure if this is too specific but it will be really interesting to hear about your process of creating your course and maybe how your PhD helped you to figure out what content to focus on and the kind of reading to assign. Also looking forward to more post doc vlogs
I’m about to start my masters and I come check in with your channel to remind myself that I can do this 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Me too 😅
@@Hafsana08 good luck I’m starting Monday 👏🏾👏🏾
🙌
I'm a Master's candidate and your comment gave me so much strength 🙌🙌
All the best with your studies
I’m a new PhD. Was offered an assistant professorship at a school in Alabama, but I didn’t want to leave Atlanta, so I ended up accepting a lectureship at a school here. Watching this series, I felt like I should’ve did a postdoc instead. . . Anyway, I’m just trying to say that I appreciate your content! Thanks.
Postdocs are a great way to have protected time for research while doing minimal teaching. Now you know!
I just love how you do not waste no time. More so being a wife and now a mom, you still super focused on what you want and advancing self. You go mama, I'm here for these series and all. Super motivating ❤️
You are inspirational, Dr Kola🌺🌺
Currently in my second year at USC getting my Masters in Public Health w/ a focus in Health Policy and Health Services! Love the “is healthcare and right or a privilege” debate! Lol. Just wanted to say thanks for motivating me to document my academic journey as well! Can’t wait for this series! 🤎
I hope those students know how fortunate they are to learn from you!!!
Thanks Donzell!
Wow that lesson looks like it would of been so interesting! I would of been over the moon seeing a professors that looked like me so stylish & fly come in the room 🥰Congrats again ❤️
This would be interesting.
Soo excited for these Postdoctoral series. I really like your living room set-up! Continued success with all of your endeavors!
Thank you for sharing! I am a first-year PhD student, so it is great to see content like this from other Black women. I hope you have a great semester!!!
Not sure how often you will have these doctoral series but I am really excited to see more. That's a class I would love to attend.
That outfit is hella cute and still professional, love the animal print loafers😍
Thank you so much!!
It's always good seeing you post videos. I'm know that I maybe a little late responding but they be to me being out of town with grandson. Anyway, I love how you carried your comforter on your back while making the bed. It's always seeing you accomplish so many things in life as a WOC. You are being successful without the drama disrespectfulness of others women, sex exploitation and hatred of others. Keep on my 👸🏾 so much-loved 4 you!
I love your living room, I'm uber excited for this phase of your life. Well done ma
I live for such great content.. Thank you daktrari..
Loving your blanket.
Thanks!
You inspire me Alot. Here is to women going above and beyond.
I’m the same with my glasses, put them on right after waking up- Can’t see anything without them
😂 yeah we’re blind over here
miss ND, I hope it makes you feel at home like it did for me!
I see that CISE bag 😍😍 also I love your journey 😍
Looks like you’ve got it together mama!
Can't wait to see what this new journey holds for you!
Loved this vlog so much!
Glad you liked it!!
Awww ☺️ You seemed to be in your element in the classroom. That's was my favorite part. I enjoyed this vlog so very much.
So proud of you doc
So inspiring! I enjoyed watching this. Thanks for sharing 🤎
Sooooooo happy for you!!!! Keep blessing this world!🙏💕
It was nice seeing you in action. Nice job Doc!
This is such a chilled and inspiration vlog. Thanks for bringing us on your post doctoral journey !
This video was so calming! And I’m enjoying the post doc content! ☺️📚 Side note…your comment at the end about The Chair (Netflix) reminded me that I still need to watch! 📺
You are a superstar Ijeoma!
This was soothing to watch. Love it!
Love this content! Wishing you a successful semester!
Thank you so much!!
Girl they are 7hrs ahead of you lol I love you and watching you too
Haha yes, thank you!
Oooooh. How did you feel about The Chair? While watching the video, I made a mental note to ask if you'd watched it and then in the final minute, you mentioned it!
I thought some of the elements of the white guy’s story were overblown but I thought it treated the struggles of woc in academia perfectly
You really inspire me 🥺. I'm currently doing my undergrad in Kenya. My goal is to meet you.
Loved this!
This was great! Love seeing you in your element! Thanks for sharing! 💐🌹
Ya this is honest. As a PhD candidate, I have DEFINITELY taught stuff I had to first teach myself lol when I was a student, I thought instructors/professors were experts in what they taught but that's definitely not always the case.
I watched The Chair.
I love Sandra Oh. I hope there will be another season.
Congratulations!💙
I do have a question.
I know the postdoc salary probably a significant drop from your previous career. We’re you prepared for that drop? Im contemplating doing a postdoc but it will be a significant drop in salary for me. Would like to hear your thoughts.
Did you mean to say Kenya is 7 hours ahead of you at the Uni of Notre Dame instead of behind you?
Yup!
Question, on the days when you aren't lecturing, what does your day at the university look like or are you usually home?
I teach Mondays and Wednesdays. On Tuesdays I go in to the office and basically do the same thing except I work on my own research. Thursday and Friday I work from home and do a mix of my own research, blog work, and Cohort Sistas work
I love your work bag! May I ask where you got it?
I got the bag from CISE: cise.store/products/pbp-bag
You’re awesome 🦋
Nice!! I’m waiting to watch The Chair after I finish a couple of other series I’ve been watching! I think I will seek out the blacks student alliance and try to meet some of the other black and poc professors too!
Very inspiring Dr Kola.. 💖💖
Thanks for sharing, I enjoy watching
Yaaay for the furniture 😍😂
I like this channel
Girl where did you get the yellow/orange pants? lol
great content👌
The duvet ♥️♥️♥️,I love darling
You seem to earn a lot as a postdoc. What a big house !!!!!!! in addition to this, you have a car. Are you able to save some cash ? what are your strategies?
LOL. This house was NOT purchased with postdoc money. Feel free to Google the salary of a postdoc.
@@IjeomaKolaYT I understand now. I'm also a Postdoc in Germany. That's why I was wondering. I hope I didn't offend you.
Not the entire point of this video but where did you get your pants? I love them!
They are from Siri Studio based in Kenya.
Okayyyy😍😍😍
Where did you buy your couch?
My couch is from Joybird.
Nice room
You in Indiana now ?
Scary to think of health as a commodity.
That’s the reality though

I read the title as "A day in the life as a postdog" and I was like: "What?!"😂😭
