Harmony between Del and his son Ronnie is harmony that cannot be duplicated ! The band is true bluegrass magic. Absolute best of bluegrass that's out there today, or any other time true professionals every one of them !!!
You are right! Had a friend in Nashville that recently passed away at age 86, played fiddle with Bill Monroe at age 15. Met Del one time, a very nice gentleman.
This is the way it is supposed to be done. Notice the dynamics the band uses. Most bands out there do not understand this. Del's band moves in and out with their instruments to make the singer sound better and to create a great overall tight band sound with no one overriding the other. When one instrument needs to stand out or back up the singing it is done with perfection.
My brother and I were there specifically to see Del and the boys after a long day hiking in Brown County State Park and canoeing the Blue River (in the rain). Greatest music event I've ever attended or ever will attend! New Delheads, both of us. Love the Bill Monroe facilities and festival (second year). Goodness, a Del and Bill mix that night...wow. Alan hit it out of the park with his Kentucky Waltz that evening; well done! Thanks for filming and posting this and letting us relive that great Indiana summer evening. Semper Del.
I saw Del and Grisman last year in a cave McKinneville Tennessee. One thing about Del is he sure seems to tell stories about himself. It seems like he has a good memory.
1:27:28 Ron broke a cord, proceed to change it just in time to do his solo by the end of the song. Masterful. The way those guy dance for the microphone while playing is like a great ballet or a waltz. Thank you for all the good music
I got to see his very first public performance with Del and the boys back in the 90’s. He was already playing at a pro level even then. Amazing young man.
I probably have seen Del and the band half a dozen times in the Seattle area over the years. Such a treat to see and hear a first-class bluegrass band. I also like that they "respect the tradition" in how they dress for the concerts.
The quality of this video is as good as it get. This is a great concert by Del and the boys. You made me feel like i was setting in the front row of a great Bean blossom concert. Thanks, kt
Have been to a few bluegrass festivals and different concerts but haven't been able to see Del McCoury Band. This is the next best thing, thanks for posting!
@@highlonesome-coloradobluegrass Love that guy and he’s as cool as all get out to boot. I just love watching him on stage. Just what this genre needs to attract a younger generation. Class act too.
What a show. Hooked on the sequence from 16:30 Lime House Blues (gorgeous) 18:45 to Nashville Cats (written by John Sebastian) 23:17 (with those vocal harmonies & leading to the incredible - the bass slap > fiddle crack > banjo - instrumental ending beginning at 22:10), Cotton-eyed Joe (Jason Carter on fire) & 26:06 Kentucky Waltz w. Alan Bartram worthy of Keith Whitley. Del just masterful throughout, laughing at his own jokes like at 29:39 and 39:19.
Trivial Trivia: Actually... Monroe's first instrumental ever recorded was "Katy Hill" on Bluebird Records (1940). First recorded mandolin instrumental was "Tennessee Blues" on Bluebird Records (1940) - same session as Katy Hill. "Bluegrass Breakdown" was the 6th recorded instrumental on Columbia Records (1948).
Terrific Concert, take (for instance) the great and stunning version of 'NASHVILLE CATS' (18.46), Eat your heart out John Sebastian/Lovin Soounfull (also great by the way!)
Very impressive MTT. Your uploads have always been good but you have definitely stepped it up a notch with this. I love having the song titles on screen as the song starts instead of always having to minimizing the screen to check titles. Very cool. Thank you sir for what you are doing for us bluegrass lovers. Regards from Canada. Dan
As a dance music producer myself, I really love bluegrass. Is it the pulse, the melody or the bass? I don't know, but I keep coming back to The Del McCoury Band. Love it! 👍
It’s actually the timing and/or pace! It’s a driving rhythm that’s infectious for some of us. Like a freight train coming at ya or a low and dirty thump that you often hear in the ballads. At least it is for me.
@@RutgerSteenbergen Hence ‘the thump.’ Course the McCourys have been doin it for awhile. The best of the best. Been listening to those guys and goin to their shows for over 30 years now. Met em all. Wonderful folks. I got to see Jason Carters very first public performance with the band back in the 90’s in Fallsburg NY. Awesome!
@@dionst.michael5818 Sounds great. I live in the Netherlands unfortunately. Not much bluegrass here. And no concerts for over a year now, due to Covid. I really like The Infamous Stringdusters as well, but there's so much great music .
@@RutgerSteenbergen I live in Canada. You grow up knowing that if you truly love Bluegrass music here you better get used to driving...a lot! Lol! But I feel pretty fortunate just the same. I was almost 30 yrs old before I could buy an actual store bought CD of bluegrass music here in Canada. Growing up it was mostly taped tapes handed down to me from my Dad. Lol. He was a real Delhead and Larry Sparks fanatic.
Most polished and professional bluegrass band on earth..!!!

My sweet mother rest her soul got me into gospel music
Del McCoury and his band are simply the best blue grass has to offer today.
I hear a lot of Del in his son's voice. This is as good as it gets. National treasures.
Seen him Thursday, Winston Salem NC. Don't get no better than 4 rows from Del Mccoury!!
The instruments they play tells you everything you need to know about true bluegrass!!!!! They are amazing!!! True bluegrass!!! Thank you!!!!
That is some History right there.....Del is one of the only first Generation Bluegrass players left. And he is still going strong!
You are so correct. It becomes more apparent each time one of the others passes. Bill, Doc, Lester & Earl, Ralph (last year).... Sigh.
Jeff Armantrout amen Brother
Just starting to realize what it has meant to have seen Ralph, Doc, and Del. Wishing I had seen Duffy, and Monroe.
Not to mention seeing Vassar and Tony Rice
You are right! Had a friend in Nashville that recently passed away at age 86, played fiddle with Bill Monroe at age 15. Met Del one time, a very nice gentleman.
That "High and Lonesome" sound. 🤗
Love the Nashville Cats! You guys are the Best of the Best!

makes me feel like a joey when I go play with my band!
You're right; that's why they are the best in the business.
And they all wear suits
Four part harmony, yikes! I am in absolute jaw dropped awe of Del.
Del just keeps on and on. Great singer.!
Ole Del seems like a nice fella
Total love for Del, his kids and the band. Saw him way back in the 70's many times. Need to see them again.
Dark Hollow around 50. The best one I've heard.

Bluegrass at it's best!
Del's rendition of Vincent is a classic. No one does it better, even with the slip ups!
21:10 Bass player in the Zone , feeling good
I love how Del tells us stories about his career and his friends.
absolutly fabulous!!!!!!!
That bass player has a beautiful voice! Great show all around!
Limehouse Blues!! Love it!!!

BEST❣ LOVE HIGH SINGING DEL AND JASON KILLS FIDDLE💖ALL AWESOME
It doesn't get any better.
Jason on fiddle, one of the finest backing musicians working today. He learned to play, to backup Del.
I got to see his very first public performance with Del and the boys back in the 90’s. He was already playing at a pro level even then. Amazing young man.
"Dale" (Del) has a very unique voice. Sons have lots of talent too. Very nice Appalachian sound.

I'm amazed that he changed a string on the mandolin in the middle of the song, amazing!!
john farmer
Lol. Probably done it quite a few times last 40 yrs. He'd been giving it evil eye all night. great band
He is a mandolin god. He can do things that regular humans can't do.

I have videos from other years but this is my only one from 2016. Sorry
Who the hell downvotes Del?
I was just wondering the same thing! 35 thumbs-downs? WTH?
Bots.
Uncultured assholes
Gotta love it...........MAGA
Very good video. How about posting some of the others that you have?
Others that I have? What others are you talking about?
Scroll down just a bit. In a response to Rachel Ray Zill you replied that you have more from other years. Thank You.
There are posted if you search for them :)
Thank you
🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻👍
Would have loved to hear a high note contest between Bill and Del... probably would have broken glasses in the audience.
Dropped another on me,Timm
+MyTallTripod Nice video
banjo guys wife must say try to smile please
All
booked a flight to america to see them 2020, then covid hit the world
(scotland)
Who's the Emmcee?
The bottom of the show bill says 'Emcees - Sam Jackson & The Legendary Tommy Lamb'. Not sure which one it was.
Somebody want to wake up Ronnie. Is he that bored?
The banjo player kind of looks like Leonardo DiCaprio…separated at birth maybe?
Some of the best bluegrass right here. Love it. But Jason on fiddle needs to back off on his fills when Del is singing.
His sons look to be tired of having to play with their old man.
nah!
Zelensky plays a mean fiddle.
