I didn't think it was possible to be angrier about this issue but here we are. I am ashamed to be Australian. This is why we need to push back against birth certificates being reissued and trans women being given a passport that says "woman". There are certain situations in the world where the truth matters, identification documents are one of them.
Oh lordy, there are so many things going through my mind and I could say.... or suggest. I agree that birth certificates should not be altered. Changing name by deed poll is possible of course. Perhaps people with dsds could eg once puberty kicks in or whenever it comes to light, apply if they wished, with eg dna testing, to change it.(I'm open to further points there). Regards driving licences and passports, with the holographic tech (passports) It could have, at each agency's data held on the person/all of us, the actual birth sex and name along with other info eg new/ name without revealing birth sex actually on the licence or passport. I can imagine meetings with gov depts and trans lobbyists discussing all the parameters to have their 'identity' markers hidden. There was a part of me that was supportive of people with 'gender dysphoria' but that has waned with all the issues impacting on female's rights now.
i cant see how this ruling is going to be overturned or see some new legislation being brough in to change it. the damage is already done i fear and women's safe space no longer exist in Australia as of now. i hope im wrong .

one thing it's important to mention is that the Australian WOMAN Sally Grover had to pay for her legal expenses (over half million dollar) and the "the other part" had the legal expenses paid by tax payers. This whole circus is absolutely unacceptable.
Now the cat is out of the bag at the BMA; since the TRAs are so good at "taking names", maybe some intrepid journalist could tell us who organized the opposition to the Cass Report? That is the source of the rot...
@paulrout Not sure where you're coming from here. Large numbers of the BMA's membership resigned in protest at the actions of the constitutional committee, in taking a private vote to oppose the Cass review, without consulting their members. The committee are entrusted to conduct ballots on a clinical, not a political basis.
“Why did he bring the case?” Might he just be a grifter looking for a pay out and free legal representation, no win no fee type deal. My understanding is he hasn’t to put his own money in to pursue this case, unlike Sal Grover. It’s not even like he used the site before he got kicked off according to one interview I saw with Sal Grover who said “ he just wanted to swap recipie etc with women but he hadn’t been doing that before he was kicked off the site” Got grifter written all over it in my opinion, wouldn’t surprise me if after someone likes this, if they win a big pay out, they won’t be “gender confused” in 12 months time and would be a plain old man (just like they are now, even if they are wearing a dress). Biology doesn’t lie.
I wouldn't wish to contradict Helen Joyce - she's a hero - but my understanding of UK law is that it's only better than Oz law in this regard because UK law has the Gender Recognition Act. The fairly recently Haldane judgment - that For Women Scotland took to court - ruled that a man with a GRC is a woman for 'all purposes'. Presumably, this means that the few thousand men with a GRC in the UK *are* treated as women under the Equality Act, and that the single sex exemption would not apply to them. So, if Roxy Tickle had a UK GRC, and Giggle was a UK app, the law would apply exactly here as it does in Oz. The Oz law is based on self-ID, as I understand it, which means that a man doesn't even need a GRC to invade women's spaces. Sex Matters - of which Helen is a director - is still trying to get the Equality Act clarified so that sex means sex (and not gender identity). Until this happens, British men like Roxy, who want to spoil women-only spaces, are legally protected in doing so, so long as they have a GRC. Someone please tell me if I have this all wrong.
You've gone into a fair bit of detail laying this out, so I expect you probably know significantly more than me about the law on this in Australia versus the UK, so take whatever I say with a huge pinch of salt, but: Doesn't a lot of it come down to the individual judge and how they themselves interprit a specific case and the laws surrounding it, depending on the country? We've had a couple of court cases in the UK relating to gender identities (delusional men trying to impose their nonsensical identities on women), and in most of them the law has thankfully sided with the women. Essentially saying that they have every righ to be gender critical and that this is a protected belief. The thing that was so shocking to me was the Australian judge saying that 'sex is changable' or something a long those lines... What?!
The Australian Sex Discrimination Act was amended in 2013 to include the term gender identity and remove the definitions of male and female. Sally Grover is arguing that this is wrong and will be part of the appeal process. The changes to this Act were made by our first female Prime Minister (famous for her mysoginy speech in parliament) and Australians were not informed of these changes nor voted or agreed to them.
The GRC still excluded males from female only spaces. If there was anything different in Scotland, it will be because the laws in Scotland can be different to those in England and Wales.
