  • Owning a camper can be a lot of upkeep. You have storage fees, repairs and maintenance, warranty issues, and safety recalls. We purchased our Airstream Basecamp 16 in March 2018. After owning and traveling in our Airstream Basecamp for 5 seasons, we review all of the repairs, recalls, and warranty work we have done through our local Airstream dealers.
Although we have not owned another camper, we are impressed by how well the Airstream Basecamp has held up over the last 5 years. We lived in some pretty tough climates, and feel our Basecamp has weathered the storm.

I found it interesting to see and hear about the warranty issues that you guys experienced with your basecamp. Thank you for sharing. Peace and Safe Travels.

Always lube your locks with lock lube. Question everything that says Dometic on it. They make so much stuff, but some of it is a huge hit and miss.

Thanks for the recommendation. Luckily, we never had issues with our Dometic, just the recall. But they are definitely hit or miss.

Damn.. our Coachman 17RB is 8 years old and the fixing needed has been the water heater cathode and into the dealer for a new roof and back wall and bathroom interior after a tree fell on it 2 years ago on our property. We use it all summer both static as a cottage up north and traveling.

Thanks for the review! I noticed at 0:27 you showed a awning attachment on your rig. Have you reviewed this on previous vids?

That was our first try! We bought the official Airstream side and rear tents. They mounted to the Basecamp using the keder rails. We only used them once or twice before selling them because the setup time on them was challenging and time consuming. We replaced that option with the MoonShade Awning which we do have a video for and is a far superior solution. ruclips.net/video/T0BCuChjaxI/видео.html

2 to 3 weeks per year and you are happy with the way it is held up? Wow, No offense but I bet Airstream loves customers like you. I have had a home and small camper and had considered the Basecamp X for my next purchase. Over the past couple years I have been reading all the reviews I can, hoping they would get better. They haven’t. Airstream at one time was known for their quality but from what I have read/seen that is in the rear view mirror, way back in the mirror. Airstream has a cult like following and they rely on that because it surely isn't for their quality. Considering the quality issues I have read about they are Way overpriced. On the other hand people can say, “we have an Airstream”. And there is nothing wrong with that. As they say, “whatever floats your boat”. Safe travels.

We loved our Basecamp and never thought much of the very minor issues we encountered. Thanks for watching the video, we hope you’ll subscribe.

Possibly so, but at the end of the day, you still have a '73 Streak:(
