I quit there last year - I'm a Neel Gap statistic. Regretted it ever since. In 11 days, I'll be back there to keep hiking north. Excited about it, but need to work through the feelings that led me to bail last year...looking forward to getting beyond that!
May you have daily success transversing over formidable terrain and continue to have the determination to tolerate nature’s tooth and claw with bravado. Bravo to your effort and enthusiasm. Wishing you a safe passage, good health, peace and good fortune. Happy Trails!
Your channel just popped up.i youtube the trail last year and here I am back on trail.lol.im old and really enjoyed the video. Much love from Trail Town USA aka Damascus, Virginia. 🙏♥️🐕
The ice is called hoar frost. Hoar frost is a type of feathery frost that forms as a result of specific climatic conditions. The word 'hoar' comes from old English and refers to the old age appearance of the frost: the way the ice crystals form makes it look like white hair or a beard.Feb 21, 2019
I think it's actually called Needle Ice which forms from water in the ground. Hoar frost forms from water vapor in the air and is usually on leaves, bushes, etc. Good luck and have fun on your hike!
@@YT-MikeLI think you are correct. I’ve never heard of needle ice before but according to my research needle ice forms from the ground from the ground up while hoar frost forms up on objects looking like a beard. What causes needle ice? Needle ice forms when the temperature of the soil is above 0 °C (32 °F) and the surface temperature of the air is below 0 °C (32 °F). Liquid water underground rises to the surface by capillary action, and then freezes and contributes to a growing needle-like ice column. Thanks for your comment.
Only 25% quit that would mean all quit here. Or, have 25% of all thru hikers this year quit here & then more hikers to come w/ most this month & some will quit further alone. Just wanted you clarify this please.
The AT has about a ~75% dropout rate. The 25% number is referring to the fact that ~25% of thru hikers quit at Neels gap, which is at the base of blood mountain.
KEEP MOVING FORWARD
You make a good video. Not to long with narration 👍😁
Whoop, Whoop... Past Neels Gap 😀👍‼️💯
At 3:33, those are frost flowers - water is forced up and out as it freezes.
