I am the honest vocal coach! I have been teaching for 15 years and been singing since I was 16. I teach from my own studio and also teach and mentor via email, and online via Live & Skype. I just listened to Georgina's own album, and she is NOT impressive at all in her own singing. She sings a particularly lifeless version of "Let It Go" (from _Frozen_) that would not even pass muster in a karaoke bar. So I don't understand the nerve she has to critique all these singers when she really has an OK instrument, nothing spectacular...

Exactly. She knows how to put on a show made of dancing and stage presence. Yes, she's not a strong singer but there's far worse in the industry, even certain members of other girl groups couldn't sing a note or dance. To be a performer you're supposed to be good at singing or dancing at least.

Yeah but to be fair to artists like this (such as Cheryl, Britney or whoever) is that they usually have such stage presence and put on such a show they were like born to entertain on a stage and are also very loveable people. That’s why they are famous cos they are essentially the whole package including a passable voice which doesn’t need to be good cos it’s made up for in their charisma and general performance/dance skills and personalities etc
She is not autotuned😂 she is just not the best vocalist. Having a beautiful voice is not enough and it never was. It’s called show business, so if you don’t know how to pull the show on or off stage, you are out of BUSINESS. Simple. That’s why many of talent show contestants never break through after winning - because they think voice is enough. There is so much more, that only few can make it there.

I like that you kept it professional and not bash her for sake of it like loads of people do. She’s a human being after all and she did xfactor completely live, which some recent artists haven’t bothered with.

What do you mean doing X factor live is a feat itself. She was a judge on that show and contestants must do X factor live every week. And they sing better.
That’s exactly her point. It’s the biggest singing competition in the country which she was a judge on and now she is performing on it herself. That’s a lot of pressure! She did well considering.

Credit where it's due, Cheryl usually does sing live or partially live, which many singers don't do. She also is capable of dancing at the same time as singing, which even many good vocalists struggle with. I agree with the Honest Vocal Coach that she has a degree of charisma on stage. I think the level of criticism she gets for her voice is way out of proportion to her actual limitations (this is a response to the comments section - not the video, which, as ever, was fair!). It's fair to say that Cheryl has a weak voice, and her lower range is particularly weak and flat. Her tone is not for everyone. Sometimes she misses notes. But overall, she can hold a tune, and deserves to be a singer. Don't forget she was voted by the public into Girls Aloud based on her live singing performances. This was on Popstars, the X Factor of its day.

Don’t think anyone can be overly critical of Cheryl.. let’s face it, she’s one of VERY FEW artists who actually SING live while doing intense choreo. That’s talent 👏🏻👏🏻 hope she comes out with new music soon 😬💞

I will say, she is very beautiful, and can dance, but that doesn't substitute for a voice that can't seem to match up.
i think Cheryl knows how to do a great Show on stage, with (still!) live vocals. I love her breathy tones and her smoothy vocal color... really like this performance, yup she's not *the singer* but she's one of *the performer* in the industry.
btw... she was NEVER the best singer, dont understand the "THING" now, she sounds like she ever sounded, good but not great. But there is the performance thing, and she knows how to perform live. I like that! Impressive!

Cos shes still massively successful. I think she has a nice voice it's not on the level of say pink or beyonce but she can sing and I dont no why people act shocked when they hear her live just because she cant hit high notes like other big stars because she started her career on a reality talent show were she sang live and was voted to be part of girls aloud everyone knows how she sings

The reaction she has got to this is typical of an older artist. As soon as they mess up once they're told that their day has past and get layer with hate. Same happened with Mariah, Whitney, Britney etcc
Disney stuff Tbh I feel the negativity surrounding herself has more to do with today's social media culture. She ruined her face with fillers and now her name has been tarnished. Sorry if i sound rude but this is a simple reaction to a live performance. 10 minutes and i havent heard anything technical or about notes, pitch, tune... Everyone can hear she missed the first "won't apologize" and that she was emotional and on the stage after 4 years it is also clear to everyone

The video isn’t even ten minutes long. At the start she clearly talks about how out of breath she is before she even starts proper singing.
It was a review of the performance not the vocal in particular. She provided entertainment for millions and did a very good job.
It has elements of Cheers (Drink to That) by Rihanna and Say My Name by Tove Styrke to it.
Love the style of feedback delivery, reminiscent of John & Greg on Master Chef: evaluating the work in a balanced, respectful, constructive manner 👍🙂

For any of us oldies, over 45... would you look at some classic singers from the 80's or before please? I was thinking live (or even the official video recordings) Abba, Eurythmics, Tina Turner, Blondie etc. There were some big power ballad singers back then too: Bonnie Tyler, Jennifer Rush and Berlin "Take My Breath Away". Always interested to hear how they did what they did from a vocal coach like yourself, as I can't sing for toffee.Thank you.

Please don’t compare her to Britney! She’s totally different and much better than Britney, Cheryl can sing pretty well in the grand scheme of things, and her choreography is so much better than Britney in every way, and I’ll tell you what she’s bang up to date! My only complaint is she needs to stop trying to be so edgy, it comes across a bit cringe, and if she stopped it would come across more cool than sexy and not hitting the right audience. She should have done this as a ballad heart toucher (Emeli Sandé style) and had more of a woman power dance tune as a big hit.

I am not a Cheryl fan or girls Aloud fan but I think she did a good job, don't understand what all the fuss is about with it supposed to be too raunchy. For an energetic dance routine it was fine for live vocals. She is a good dancer I think, she will never be Katherine Jenkins or Adele but to be fair they can't dance like that so...
