We've seen that Tom can pull off the SUSD house-style in past reviews, but I think this is the first time I've seen him do something that felt more individual within that. From the very opening, before anyone was even on screen, this didn't feel like a Matt or a Quinns review, and that's exciting.
Seconding this. Absolutely beautiful work, and I wasn't expecting that intro. Also, I am sure it's just some sort of mic, but I loved the audio quality staying consistent as he walked down a leafy trail toward the camera. The game seems a bit too like Carcassonne to me, but this video is 10/10, smells like a classic.
Wow, and I thought I would be the only one to be overwhelmed by the audio - I also continued watching not for the game but for the artistic and craftsmanship quality of the video. Two third‘s thought the vid I did order the game …
Hey Tom, just wanted to let ya know that this was, in my opinion, your best review yet. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it felt really polished and nice. Well done :)
You don't have to have played literally every board game to have a voice in the discussion of what makes something good and enjoyable. Everyone has games they haven't played. Everyone has blindspots. We just have this bias towards those whose blindspots include popular or classic games. A Feast for Odin is quite the experience, though. Lovely review, especially that intro.
Hi! This is Nimba that rated 'makes me smile' just a 6. Thanks for featuring my scoring! I've only played this game on Tabletopia during Spiel Digital, and I really enjoyed the demo by Pegasus Spiele! So I'm actually pretty positive about the game in total :) Go try it out!
Tom mate you’ve got to be chuffed with this how this video has turned out. It’s chuffing excellent. Didn’t think I would like an addition to SuSD as the house style is so good... somehow you’re bloody brilliant tho. Congrats man - dope review.
This is BY FAR your best review. I'm so excite to see you put yourself into even more videos. Evokes a Jacob Geller review vibe and that is never a bad thing.
Great job, Tom. Beautifully shot and scripted. Keep the wonderful diversity coming SUSD. Multiple voices united by thoughtfulness, humour and quality of delivery.
Top thoughtful review pulling at the strings of gaming academia and generally strengthening the discourse around boardgames. keep it going and coming...
1. This is by far the best Tom review so far. All have been great, but from the section separation, to the nature shot compositions, to the highlighting of strange background noises, it just feels awesome. It’s the kind of video I’m glad to be supporting in a financial way. 2. I really need to visit England sometime when all of this is over. Thank you for showing a side we rarely get to see in the other reviews. Excellent job.
when the pandemic wanes and the SUSD crew can all get together for reviews again, god damn are they ever going to cut a good video. tom fits in like he's always been there. a perfect new addition to the board game review roster.
Great video Tom! At first I was confident that this was Tom’s best video but it might be SUSD’s best video. It was so beautiful to watch and the audio is surprisingly crisp for being outside. Would love to see more videos like this.
Absolutely blooming brilliant video. We live in middle-of-nowhere Poland forestland and we got a copy of Renature sent out to us off the back of this excellent, excellent review.
This is such a beautifully put together review. It really was a view essay about gaming that also gave an opinion on a specific game. Wonderfully put together. Glad to see more of Tom :)
What a lovely game, a thorough review and some great editing. Mr Garbage has knocked it out of the park (podcast is fantastic too). Seriously can't say enough nice things, really looking forward to more SU&SD content. 5 Star would watch again
While I don't always agree with SUSD's assessments on every game they review or discuss, EVERY one of their videos none-the-less resonates strongly with me. The passion that these guys bring to what they do is absolutely inspiring. Every time I watch them wax poetically about "this mechanic", or "that theme", or the "gamefeel" of a given board game I find myself reflecting on some of the great moments and experiences I have had gaming with friends and family. Tom, chapeau, mon ami. I will keep my vision orbs open for this one.
Amazing review. Sometimes it's not about the game rating, but how it makes you feel. I could feel how excited and passionate Tom was about this game, and being able to convey this passion for a certain game is one of the things that make this hobby so beautiful.
Tom, such an excellent review! You did a great job in bringing out the depth and richness of this beautifully constructed board game. I feel like I understand the feel of this game. Keep bringing us excellent reviews!
I have to echo some of the other comments here and say that this review was probably Tom’s best. Brilliant work, it seems you’ve definitely found your own style and it was great to watch! Thank you as always 🙂 Edit: I have rewatched the intro a couple times now and I really enjoy it! So good!
How are you creating such a great script, then memorizing it for long takes, then speak so coherently and enticingly while enjoying a walk outdoors. Board game Boy you may be but I'd argue you are actually a broadly talented specimen of a man.
The TopGear of board games video. Enjoyed it very much and definitely going to play that game. Already in my shopping cart. Make more like these please. You know people watching videos for entertainment, it's not like I'm going to buy all the cars... can't afford them.
Should anyone be interested: There will be some available in UK on 7th December. Probably pre-orders and a few retail. Anyone missing out on these will be waiting until February for the next batch.
That is by far my second favourite Los campesinos t shirt ! Ive never so quickly built an unhealthy parasocial relationships with anyone before. Also great work :)
Listen, I really REALLY love Tom's reviews. Not to say that I don't enjoy Quinns or Matt, but Tom has a very personal style I absolutely love, he seems to be getting more and more comfortable. And I love that he hasn't played all the big "classics" , it certainly gives a different and new perspective on many games that some might glance over (like this) . .... That being said hit me up to play A Feast For Odin because that shit SLAPS
somebody got a clip on mic and knows how to use it! (amazing video tom its thematic, VERY well articulated and I love this game and this content that you've made so much)
Great video, and some especially lovely photography too! :D I'm trying to pin the song at the beginning, it's on the tip on my tongue. Is it a remix of a track from the Fez soundtrack?
Great review Tom. Just because you are a newer voice does not make your opinion less valid. I saw this during shux and I had it on my Christmas list. This video definitely reinforces that purchase
Your example at 4:27 is incorrect, the area was already closed off before you placed your tile there. Only orthogonal adjacency matters insofar as "closing off" an area is concerned. Great overview otherwise.
Casually uses 'ludovisual' in the review. Subtitles random background screaming so it cannot be ignored. Is Tom the James Acaster of board games? Either way: this made my morning. I can earnestly say I look forward to Tom's reviews as much as I do those of Quinns and Matt.

Well put!
Definitely his best work. Pushing the envelope of the channel.
agreed! exciting to see him grow
I didn't even know Tom had legs!
Had the exact same feeling. I'm not even done with the review as of this post and I'm loving it simply for the shot composition.
This is the first SU&SD review I have ever seen, and I am just blown away. Where have you been all my life? SUBSCRIBED, take all my money.
At what point are we going to stop calling Tom the new guy? Anyway, new guy did good on this one.
"Just because you the 'New Guy' don't mean you a 'New Guy'!"
When they get a new new guy
@@DrMcFly28 Would you refer to the new new guy as new two or new too?
When he stops apologizing for it. (Tom, please stop apologizing and trust your audience.)
When he stops being rubbish
Man this is probably some of the best editing in a SU&SD video. I wasn't into the game after a minute but I watched the whole video.

Why wouldn't I trust Tom? He's on the internet.
I'm here to let u know that the "mort garson stealing your lunch money" line did not go unappreciated
huh... didn't know you were into board games. Your videos are great.
@@anwyl42 oh yea very, im planning to make a video abt some soon
@@Patricia_Taxxon That sounds neat. I look forward to it.

"ARGH!"
I stopped this after 20 seconds and decided I had to stream the rest of the video onto the big telly, lovely job.
..
.
ARGH!
I did exactly the same. No regrets!
Great job, Tom. Beautifully shot and scripted. Keep the wonderful diversity coming SUSD. Multiple voices united by thoughtfulness, humour and quality of delivery.
Congrats Tom, this feels like your best review yet
I was waiting for "WAR!" during the suspiciosly chill intro
WAR... TREES
WAR ter trees
"But everything changed when the TREE Nation attacked"
I suspect it will be tucked away for some months, only to make a triumphant return down the line.
Doesn't seem like a game for me but this video was incredible, keep up the excellent work lads!
Agreed, Tom killed it on this one.
I loved everything about this, but you’ve made a dangerous commitment by bringing back the “pinball schlub” clip.
Can we call Tom the Mr. Rogers of board game reviews now? Enjoyed this a lot, thanks Tom.
Top thoughtful review pulling at the strings of gaming academia and generally strengthening the discourse around boardgames. keep it going and coming...
That opening sequence is just gorgeous
Tom has a really unique and special voice and contributes something great to SUSD, what a lovely watch.

Tom, once again a great review. I love your style and I always enjoy your videos. Thanks for being here.
Best work yet by Tom. Absolutely great review and great production - up there with the top SUSD videos
I loved the intro for this! It was very different but gave the feel of the game and had me immediately intrigued!
As well as being an excellent review all round, you absolutely knocked it out of the park with the photography and edit for this video. Well done!
Its simply shocking how good his review is, when you consider the games Tom admitted he DIDN'T play yet.
Absolutely blooming brilliant video. We live in middle-of-nowhere Poland forestland and we got a copy of Renature sent out to us off the back of this excellent, excellent review.
Bonus points for "grandmacore," minus points for "alot." 10 lovely trees out of 10.
Bonus points for "alot." I purposely misspell it that way.

Love the kind of nature documentary style! Half expected to see David Attenborough to appear :D
Fits the theme so well!

I really enjoy this. Good work Tom I love that I've seen you grow like Matt before you into a fully fledged SUSD host!
At the end I thought, that he might have eaten an edition of the Little Book of Calm. :)
I love that show!
Love the framing and composition of all the outdoor shots. Great work.
This is some quality slow walking right here
The production value on that intro.

also uppa Hello Sadness what a great album 👀
First time I've seen footage of the English countryside and thought I'd want to visit. Nice!
Well there goes any doubts or concerns about Tom I may have had as a member of the team.
Exquisite video, comprehensive coverage, an arrival.
Kudos.
The area control aspect sounded to me like it came straight out of Mexica, and what-do-ya-know, they were both designed by Wolfgang Kramer.
Your enthusiasm is infectious and the video was great. Thank you for this, Tom

Just want to say that I am really enjoying Tom's reviews and style. Very cool.
Fantastic setting for a review. Loved it!
FEZ track on the opening there :D
Really enjoying Tom's contribution to the channel, well in mate!
Tom's absolutely become part of SU&SD's identity for me, right alongside Matt and Quinns.

Tom has very quickly become my favorite voice from SUSD, and this review really hammers in why.

Astonishing review Tom. It was a work of art, very fitting for such a lovely game.
Tom is proving to be a FANTASTIC addition to the SU&SD crew.
Good show, Tom. It’s wonderful to watch you develop your style.
Tom with the Los Campesinos shirt, rock on mate.
"Arrrgh" 😂😂😂
Snatched this up for $20! Your review makes me think i got a great deal! Thanks so much!
Immediately bought this game based on this review and loved it. Will likely now get any game you recommend now Tom...........no pressure buddy!
Tom that jacket/coat is very nice- you look great in it! Also, wonderful review as always!

Thanks for this review Tom, but you need to start giving yourself credit! You are a great reviewer!
Great video, and some especially lovely photography too! :D
I'm trying to pin the song at the beginning, it's on the tip on my tongue. Is it a remix of a track from the Fez soundtrack?

Uh Tom that Fez Side F Guthrie remix was an inspired choice. Holy shit.
Phew! Glad Tom reminded me to renature at the end of the video. Almost forgot to today!
this happens to me with a lot of Shux videos. Great review, gets me all warm and in a buyin' mood ... and then it's not available anywhere. Boo hiss!
proud of u for hitting your stride, tom
