Especially that position on the shoulder, she right in the meat but it's slightly past his joint so there's real weight on the arm that he has to hold up
I based when I did circus training. Being the base is one kf those jobs that gets the least glory, but its really hard work. You have to develop complete trust with your partner. Was a great workout for the core. And gives you some hard core bruises. But I always preffered it to flying.
Circus performer here! You practice in a gym with some serious mats, and you have one or more spotters around. Pretty much like cheerleading. And you just hurt yourself a lot. Also like cheerleading. People who can do those sorts of bends don't really strain to do those bends, so while she is amazing, most of the raw effort she's putting forth would be in the ballet part. (Next most obvious question: Yes, it hurts being that guy. He has big bruises where she puts those pointe shoes. You cover them with makeup, or wear costumes with flesh-tone covering those spots, and ignore it.)
@@emilyli3393 they're just saying that the training process is kind of similar to how cheerleaders train, as that might be more familiar to some people than how circus artists train. They, in no way, discredit the effort and skill that went in to this, and they never said that cheerleaders can do this. There might be some out there who can, but I have no idea
I think its true what u said about people who can bend like this not straining for it.. my sister used to be one of those totally crazy benders and boy i was jealous 🤣 -we trained in ballet as kids for some years. Though in the i was the one who became a professional dancer (not in ballet), she took another road 🙃
Actually I beg to differ about her not needing to make such effort due to natural bendiness. She most definitely would’ve trained from super young, I’m talking like approx 3-4 years old? There are vids showing little kids crying whilst contorting their bodies into extreme flexibility all over the net. Just like world class gymnasts have been doing for decades, it’s not just dance or circus acts.
@@tiarianamanna973 It’s not just about how bendy you are like you can be naturally hypermobile and stuff muscles or really good at active stretching vs passive
I've seen some people grumble that "that's not ballet!" That misses the point. This is a Chinese production inspired by Swan Lake, incorporating Chinese acrobatics, and it's beautiful. One thing you should also look up is the pas de quatre from this production. Instead of little swans, it's four male performers as little frogs. It's both adorable and really impressive.
This seemed like a real swan to me. She seemed so light, like an actual bird. She was so confident, and moved how I would imagine a swan would. Light, airy, basically floating. This is amazing.
so this is a variation also known as "Butterfly Lovers" woven into Swan Lake and it is quite exquisite. I think it may be the same couple as well, as you can imagine not many people attempt this variation. Love you Josephine!
That lady's balance was supernatural & that guy's pain tolerance is mind boggling! (~90 lbs on 4 square inches of his shoulder) WTF!!!!! She balanced en pointe on HIS HEAD!!!! How in the hell is that possible?! Can someone confirm that was not video trickery?
It’s not video trickery, BUT the man is wearing a headpiece. It’s a small round disc with a flat spot that straps under his chin. This couple performs a lot (be sure to watch their various got talent performances! Their performances on Asia’s got talent are truly incredible!) but generally just before she goes en pointe on his head, she will do some dramatic floor work while he disappears a moment behind her. That’s when he puts on the headpiece - he returns, quickly boosts her up, and then you’re amazed at their finale trick. Probably why you didn’t notice the headpiece :)
that pair is the most impressive people I have ever seen. The strength, the grace, the balance, the beauty! Not even shaking or running around trying to stay balanced as you'll often see when people try to balance (Im think about cheerleading). Damn son. Her inner ears doing the work. She did a full spin on top of his head!
From what I’ve heard, the two lead dancers are (or at least have been) a married couple in real life as well, which could at least partially explain how they’re so well synchronized with each other and have this total trust for each other beyond what you see from just dance partners. I have seen them on TV several years ago and several times on RUclips because they’re just so amazing. Their balance and strength is just out of this world, she do things most people can’t even do on a floor or on a more solid surface than a shoulder, and he’s got the strength and balance to have someone on pointe on his shoulders and head
I had tears too! Omg!! This was insane! All the dancers are beautiful but also knowing China’s program my heart breaks for them. The sacrifice they’ve made the hard work they have to endured. What an amazing performance . Thank you for reacting to this!
Absolutely mind blowing. I've never seen anything like that in ballet. I'm a hard core traditionalist, but that was just unbelievably impressive and within in the spirit of the ballet. Very neatly done.
