Actually glad the final boss theme went with TR4 than 3. It sounded more Egyptian, mysterious and frightening which is perfect for the game theme and of course the final boss Seth.
I guess they removed Peru because that's where the first game started... whereas India was a new and previously unvisited location. BTW, TR3 was my very first Tomb Raider game. I would have probably never played this series, if it wasn't for this game.
The tribal levels shown at 3:14 and onwards are actually accessible and in the game by falling into the a water stream just before entering the proper village path, they have gemstones you can collect that open the gates to the tribal village. You then drop down to another section of the village and are unable to return.
Sorry it has been some years since i last played TR3 in the 90s but i remember there beeing a key in the very beginning of the south sea level. When you start at the beach it is somewhere in the water. There is a keyhole close by which has a trapdoor. Down there you can find the harpoon. And it leads to the same village with the gemstones i think.
Great job... I grew up with Lara and seeing this makes me feel like I´m back in my early years. I remember the PS One demo of the first Tomb Raider where Theme music played the whole time. Loved it..
Watching gh0stblade’s tr3 October 5 1998 beta really showed how much was left to be desired and how much was changed in the last month of production. I’m with you on I wish the majority of the game stuck with beta ideas. Unfortunately I noticed that a lot of cut and changed content was due to time and budget reasons along with data restriction of a PSX disk and the hardware limitations of the PlayStation itself. In other betas I notice that when the game was being created on the development kit which mind you the development kit was much more powerful than the PSX itself, there was if memory serves me a poly limit, a framerate scale and how many polygons were displayed on screen at once. This was to keep in mind what they could put out at once due to the PlayStations limits. It truly amazes me what was left in the beta all the way from May of 1998 up to early October 1998 and then in the last 3 weeks was cut and tweaked to compensate for overall smooth gameplay. Things like the combat knife for combat and for prying objects and the dash roll animation and the original monkey swing and sprint animations, or like when it was temple of shiva there was an extra room where the official level end trigger is because they cut it out at last second. Seeing that for the first time blew my mind because for one small room, it added a lot to me(also the room was very reminiscent of temple of xian where you hop slope to slope and Grenades sit on one tile without spikes) because It made sure you stayed on your toes with the end right there. Very ambitious and what could of been.
Good work ma,n as always. I'm watching your videos since 3 months and I'm always getting back to my childhood where I supposed to find a lot of glitches in the old Tomb Raider series :). I wish that they never make a "new sh!tty gen", and they continue this line, where the player needed to think, not just go on a rail and everything is shown in small clouds.. And these bugs and glitches made the whole game to a new level, keep up the good work cheers.
Awesome. TR III is still my favourite. Love the kayaking, snowmobile and other cool activities. Also, not too much violence and killing as in later episodes but more exploring and adventuring.
Tr2 was more of an action film with heightened combat and a greater emphasis on it while TR3 was more puzzles oriented with less human enemies who also dropped less items making it more of a survival feel with limited resources and having to think of what to use and where to utilize your items better.
i still remember the demo for PSX, that was my first "game" CD on PSX actually. Thanks to that demo disc, i fell in love with Lara, and i got my first Tomb Raider game (TR2) month after that :) still one of my favourite series :)
Thanks for posting :3 Too bad that there's no playable E3 demo for us, I wish I could play it, it looks so mysterious and creepy. And the flare looks so much cooler. What I've noticed in the Nevada demo too: Lara's waist looks different, she is much thinner in the final game.
They removed so many things that I liked from the beta. For example the crouch roll, the rotating objects when picking them up (like in TR4 & 5), the dash and roll animation, the rocket launcher at 6:13 which fires like a shotgun. Also I think that the spikes looked more realistic at 4:18 than in the final version. Anyway I think it's a great game after all. By the way, good videos. I just subscribed to your channel :)
Yeah it’s a crying shame of what was tossed down the waste basket, I believe why the rotating object animations were take out were due to an animation error with certain unique textures like certain keys or objects(I.e. a Ganesha key or crowbar, items that are very uncommon or only have one pickup as compared to shotgun shells or medi packs). In the October 5 1998 beta these objects had a placeholder where it was literally Lara’s behind that would take place of the item and when it was found out that there was an issue there wasn’t time to fix it(if I’m correct it was noticed in the last month of development). And yes it has been proven that textures were slightly changed to be less detailed to save on data for the PlayStation which when you think about it, it all adds up pretty quick and saves a lot of data in the long run.
And now Martin Gibbins have the E3 version of Tomb Raider 3. So I really hope he'll release it out to the public so we'll finally have the ultimate chance to play with it as well. Because we have waited for MANY MANY MANY YEARS for that to happen. Should any of us talk to Martin about it? I think even his sister Judith could discuss to him about releasing it finally. How is it gonna work for him to do that for us?
Why do people like to look at this kind of thing (deleted/unused content)? I mean, I do too. But I'm not really sure why. Nostalgia? Is the the sense that the games we enjoyed as kids still contain some mystery, or might be part of some larger world?

@ Eddy channel “Eddy7454” Tomb Raider - I'm not sure if anyone pointed this out...in addition, Lara's body model is a little different in the TRIII Area 51 Demo- (smaller bust, larger ribcage, thicker and wider abs, etc) i think they were testing her with typical real life body proportioning.
Ghostblade is a huge help for that. It really amazes me that the beta from October 5th had a lot more content and different textures used in levels and then came the October 26th beta where a lot of stuff was looking to be final in the retail product. Two and a half weeks and they changed a lot.

Lara looks thinner in the area 51 demo and she has different pants on and the sprint animation looks better in that one anyways did anyone figure out how to get away from that guy beating her up without getting killed?
In the October 5th beta the game was actually a lot brighter. It’s still a mystery to me as to why they darkened the game up. My guess is the hide the inconsistencies more.
I remember playing that demo years ago but I can't remember which game the demo was on. :V I also thought she sounded hot in the demo, but when I finally started playing the final game I was disappointed to hear that they just used her voice clips from the second game. :\ I wonder why...
I love TR3 Area 51 PSX Beta Demo, because of SFX and Rotate Item when she pickup. I have a plan to make TR5 Revised & Gold to put TR3 Beta Demo SFX (Inventory,Weapons etc), because I had enough to hear from previous games.
I think they removed the beta version because of the men hitting Lara while she is trying to get her guns without getting killed but then it was later changed to where the prisoners would help her I think that was around the time where men were not allowed to hit women unless they had a reason to which is why the beta removed but yet again not sure
Or they could of just wanted to make some changes idk why though this was quicker and it was high security compound and area 51 but just combined though and in this demo you can just run over that platform to finish the level and not do all of that other stuff
TR3 had true Potential but like always the 3rd installation of any game back in the day well as you can see they make both good and bad moves this was kind of there more lazy game but made up for it in TRLR hugely successful franchise
Uh wrong. TR 3s gameplay was more complex, and the levels larger, darker and less linear. Far more vehicles and no bugs I can think of. The story was more detailed and expanded as well. I liked LR, but it and its spin offs were the lazy ones. The mansion was removed in all three, all three had bad bugs, one was rushed and practically unfinished in its gameplay development, and the stories were either too short and simple or too drug out and convoluted. Angel of darkness is widely renown as the worst TR title and tanked the franchise until crystal dynamics and square enix acquired and rebooted it.
RukudoSage69 I agree but also disagree with you in areas, I prefer TR3 as my favorite and I love the complexity of the levels and the sharper difficulty curve but this is a problem if it’s your first tomb raider game. From the get go the game is sprawling and there is no soft lead in at all unlike the first 2 games. As for bugs, there is a massively annoying corner bug that if Lara is completely backed into a corner at a 45 degree angle, she’ll get stuck in place. Also with TR1 I only had to fight the camera once, in TR2 it was practically invisible, in TR3 I fought with it often. The overall look of the game is the best at the time with wind direction, ambient lighting, fog and rain and snow, better defined and more complex polygons instead of just 4x4 grid based tiles to make up an area, and the added challenge of less resources with the challenging ps1 Save system make it an ideal tomb raider game for me and veterans of the series. Like I said it’s my personal favorite but it does have its problems where I can’t recommend this as a first tomb raider game or if you’re only going to play one of them. As for story, well it’s a rehashing of the first one with a villain who’s name you never remember, and see him twice throughout the whole game, and it isn’t until the end of the game where the story really kicks off. Tomb raider 1 felt more compelling with the story telling along with the environments helping to tell the story. Tomb raider III is just I’m here for the artifact, doesn’t really tell the story all that much. In the South Pacific islands it tells the story very well in the cut scene where Lara meets the native. But London and Nevada tell nothing to the story of what you don’t already know. At least in the original tomb raider, Natla is Displayed as a villain after level 4 and only then her character unravels more and more all the way until the very end. Dr Willard isn’t really a villain until the last 3 levels of the game.
Im really not sure as to the credibility of the stuff that's in this video, mainly because of TRLE on pc. anyone could of created those levels you showed, however the screenshots and the bad pixelated recording seem to be legitimate to me. good video though.
Well you have to keep in mind that tomb raider games 1-3 were not developed for pc, they were developed for PlayStation. At this Point the engine had just been tweaked slightly more and focus was more on content and of what can they fit into one PlayStation disk while not maxing out the limitations of the PlayStation. When TR4 and TR5(which is when the trle was released to the public) were developed, they were more focused on developing the game for maximum performance on PC and doubled the engine power hence why when you compare the pc version to the PlayStation counterparts, you can see the PlayStation version lacking and taking hits where as the PC ports play like butter. Back on topic with the video, for this game where the engine was at the time made for max performance, this is not surprising that a lot of the cut levels had to be junked to save money and costs by not backing themselves into a corner and next thing you know they got a 2 disk game on their hands which is madly expensive. In a nutshell all the cut levels and content was due to money, time and resources.
Definitely a massive step up in difficulty for sure. It’s actually considered on of the hardest PS1 games and hardest games at that period in time for better or worse.
+Eddy channel “Eddy7454” Tomb Raider okay. and one more question. why sometimes when you try to do the glitch you take the pistols and you shoot? Is that a way to do easier the glitch?
+Τάνια χαχαχαχα According for Weapons Glitch, if you want to use like Shotgun or MP5, then climb the wall and quickly press Draw and release Action to drop.If you want to use Grenade or Rocket, Lara still hold Shotgun and that make fast shoot without reload.

The crouch roll should have been used
Im really not sure as to the credibility of the stuff that's in this video, mainly because of TRLE on pc. anyone could of created those levels you showed, however the screenshots and the bad pixelated recording seem to be legitimate to me. good video though.
Too many words for my little brain
were they even going to make this game for sega saturn?
No, after the first game Sony bought a timed exclusivity with Eidos for tomb raider to be a PlayStation only game.
i love.
+MONSIEUR COCO
Thank you!
the game was very different
Definitely a massive step up in difficulty for sure. It’s actually considered on of the hardest PS1 games and hardest games at that period in time for better or worse.
You still have demos?

+Eddy channel “Eddy7454” Tomb Raider okay. and one more question. why sometimes when you try to do the glitch you take the pistols and you shoot? Is that a way to do easier the glitch?
+Τάνια χαχαχαχα
Wait, you mean Weapons Glitch?
+Τάνια χαχαχαχα sorry for my english.. yeah ! what's the point of shooting without reason?
+Τάνια χαχαχαχα
According for Weapons Glitch, if you want to use like Shotgun or MP5, then climb the wall and quickly press Draw and release Action to drop.If you want to use Grenade or Rocket, Lara still hold Shotgun and that make fast shoot without reload.
