    To me since I first heard modeled guitars and amp they haven't changed. They are good for bright sounding guitars or amp sounds and they don't sound clear and defined for darker sounds. Maybe it's like trying to record Bosendorfer pianos they don't record well. Yes they are VERY full, overtone rich sounding pianos for live, but mic them and they're muddy. Maybe same sampling dark guitar sounds all the gain and overtones just don't sample well.

      The Ukraine situation and Russian sanctions is going to hit the tube market hard, but MAYBE (?) the prices for tubes will go up so high it will be a catalyst for production in the USA again? My understanding is the only thing that kept tube manufacturing in the USA to happen again is the profits were too low, but the Russian and Chinese tube manufacturers must have been making a profit. I know labor is less over there, but so much is automated now, maybe the big amplifier manufacturers will get together and finance a tube manufacturing facility in the USA again. Can you imagine having excellent tubes made again, equal to the old RCA, Mullard, etc. quality? Environmental regulations are mentioned, but they shouldn't keep it from happening, it just adds to the manufacturing cost. Germany is so far ahead of the USA in manufacturing technology, they will likely be the country were tube manufacturing happens again, or maybe Japan? I hope the USA does it though, the technology is available, and if anything we should be able to make better tubes now, with computer manufacturing technologies. In the short term tube prices are going to go way up, so I'm thinking of stocking-up on the basics, maybe some NOS too. After changing speakers, guitar wiring and pickups, changing tubes may be the most useful way to improve your tone? I've never gotten into tubes much in the past, just let my amp techs put in what they recommended, but now I'm getting more educated about the subject. I know RCA backplate and Mullard are often mentioned with lust, and others........

    It still sounds fake. Useful in a particular way as all tones can be for certain parts in some songs depending on the player and what they need. But it's a stereo phonic copy of a tube amp. If you're a Jack of all tones kind of player who uses a wide variety of tones cause you do a lot of session and gigging work and need lots of different tones, than cool. But if you're more of an originals player playing in your original band or a songwriter looking for a unique tone, then find the right tube amp for yourself. It's like a good ribeye steak compared to a fake steak grown in a lab.

    • @pharmerdavid1432
      @pharmerdavid1432 2 года назад

      I wouldn't go so far as to call it "fake" or "plastic" sounding, but tubes are more"musical", "organic", and "warmer". All my amps use tubes, never owned a solid state amp, except a McIntosh integrated amp I had for my stereo back in the 1970's (it was new at the time - supposedly better than tubes), but I'm getting McIntosh tube pre-amp and amp for my next stereo, and a record player - records sound so much better than digital, plus you get frequencies you can't hear that have a healing effect (assuming the music is healing music).
