I love Victoria, & she truly knows what she's talking about. I had Quakers for 25 years, yes I'm old. I'm only 56. Victoria's information & techniques are spot on. 🤣
#dowhatmymumsays Her GCC came to her with a lot of "rules" as to what she could and couldn't do/hold/touch. He's really come a long way with her and I may have squealed a bit (a lot) when you mentioned her! She is a genius ;)
I recently rescued a Quaker. So far, with your help, it's getting better and better. He even called me Baby. Thanks for being you. It takes special people to try to understand....tolerate birds. Xxoo
Aweee thats cool Dana that you rescued one. I was soooooo super excited when you said that my videos have helped!!!! Love that he called you baby LOL. Probably biased but whatever us Quaker Parrot parents are the best!!! haha. Thank you so much for the compliment I really appreciate you and good luck with your birdy :)))
Victoria, you have natural understanding of those birds. A person either has it or they don"t and you got a double dose, :) I am 75 years old and have kept birds pretty much all my adult life. I presently have a Quaker parrot, Willie who will be 13 years old on the 24th of this month.
Oh my gosh thank you!!! That truly means a lot coming from someone who has a lot of experience 😊 thank you!!! Tell Willie that my flock and I wish him the happiest of birthdays ☺️☺️☺️
Victoria Ryann, I am NOT just saying this, but you have really come into your own and I have noticed a real change in you and your delivery! You are THE MOST down to earth person in the RUclips Birb Community, AND in addition to that I really appreciate the fact that I can watch your channel with children and not have to pause your channel to avoid them hearing profanity!!!! It’s like a breath of fresh air and that’s why I have subscribed to your channel PLUS your channel has allowed me to improve my Pacific Parrotlets behavior! I love your videos as they are all three (3) informative, hilarious and appropriate for children!!!! You are the REAL star of the show!!!!
Ok cut this crud out cause I'm gonna cry!!! 😭😭😅🥰🥰 Thank you I'm not good at showing my emotions but I hope you know that this is so appreciated and so very kind of you to say. It really made me so happy ☺️ I'm the luckiest girl in the world to get to do what I love and then connecting with others like you who have the same love for birds. I kid you not I'm printing this comment off and hanging it up in my work area it was so incredibly motivating and kind. Thank you thank you thank you and I'm so glad to be able to help with your parrolets and not having a potty mouth 😉😊🥰 THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!
OMG you are a life saver. I have a 3 yr old quaker RESCUE. I am her Third owner. She USE to be cage aggressive and I worked WITH her to show that it's safe outside as well as inside, but I am learning about her behavior. so This helps alot. She will NOT let me touch her food or toys without blood spilled LOL. She is not fond of nutriberries or millet, but she loves her cuddles. you are so helpful. Now I know what to work on.
My grandmother recently and suddenly passed- and she has a blue quaker who is very cage territorial and hasnt left the cage in years. Thank you for this video! I reallly want to show him some love and take him in once i finish my freshman year in college!
I just last night got a Quaker Parrot. I don’t know if it is a boy or a girl but I call him/her Kiwi. This is its second day here and Kiwi is already warming up to me thanks to your videos. They are all so informational and they helped me out tremendously. I just wanted to say Thank You!!!!
I rescued a 15 month old male Eclectus yesterday. I brought him home, left his cage door opened in case, he wanted to venture out. I asked him to step up & he did. Then he started eating a carrot from my hand. I picked up the smaller pieces for him to take b/c I wanted to see how he would react & he took that little piece of carrot just as gently as can be. He's a very sweet, gentle & loving boy. He spent the evening on my shoulder & snuggled my neck all night till he fell asleep. I put him to bed & he immediately went to sleep. This am we ate breakfast together. I figured out that he is potty trained & he alerts me when he needs to go. He's such a great parrot. Now that I'm retired I have time for birds again. I've missed birds b/c of my prior occupation. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@carolhartley4448 I agree my two green cheeks have helped me so much that no human could, I have a mental illness and they have helped more than any medication or person, I wish I was rich just so I could own a farm or a shelter full of beautiful animals , that's all rest of the money I'd just give away :)
@@michellemeade3821 Hi Michelle - I'm so glad you discovered birds and how your bird is helping you. 🌞🌞 I have the same dream, having land. I want to start a animal sanctuary. I paid my dues for the last 25 year's, now I'm retired & I'm going to get my land & help bird's & other animals who need love, attention & care. Dreams do come true.🌞🌞🌞
Holding my quakers beak and mimicking a ‘bird bite’ when she is trying to bite instantly worked. I didn’t back down and lightly held her beak from the side and she gave up almost immediately. It can be hard not to pull away because they can nip you pretty badly when they want to. My hands are currently covered in bites but I’m feeling a lot more positive and reassured now. This really helped ✨💗
@@chrissymcgirt4667 she’s about a year and 4 months, hand raised by a family that had like 3 or 4 little girls that would play with and feed them all the time. I didn’t know much about quakers before I got one and couldnt believe how naughty they could be after reading/researching. I think my pop-pop is one of the good ones from what I’ve heard, although she is still very young that might change. She loves to snuggle but sometimes she goes full bezerk-o skittish and will bite me for fun and think it’s a game and get excited when i get angry or I scream ouch… 😂
HELP! I have a 9 year old Cockatiel male. He has been in the family for around 7 years. Was not hand raised. We found him sat on a stand in a garden centre. He now lives with just me and has done for 4 years. I have always talked to him and he lives in the same room as me. However, he was never really tamed. From the day we got him, he was aggressive and goes mad with biting. I now have all the time in the world and am desperate to make his life as happy as I can. He has a mixed diet and is let out of his cage every day now. He will come out immediately but on his own and sit on top of the cage. I can feed him treats from my fingers most the time but even then he will occasionally go passed the treat to attack my fingers. He acts extremely aggressive when hands or even a hand held perch gets too close (hissing, lunging and frantic biting). It is all very confusing and a bit emotionally draining. I have been doing the usual taming techniques of sitting by his cage, talking to him, rewarding him for being calm ect. But he still has a very aggressive attitude. The minimum I want is to be able to have him step to my hands (or a perch) to move him from cage to stands if needed. Tried bribing him with treats but he still will not go near to stepping up onto anything. Been trying to calm and tame him for a month now with little to no success. I feel soooo guilty for the lack of free cage time over the years and want to fix it. He clearly has some form of a bond to me due because he will get as close as he can and calls out every time I leave the room. I can even hide my hands behind my back and he will hop on top of the cage door to 'kiss' my lips very gentle. But as soon as the hands return, boom...kill kill. Like I say, confusing and draining :) Been watching your vids and others to get some tips but just feel like I am making no progress. I still adore the little fella so he is with me for life, I would just rather not have another decade of bites :) What should I do? Do some birds just never get over the aggressive stage and are happy to simply do their own thing out the cage and be talked to? (Long post, sorry)
So I started making Ollie our Green cheek let me or my son take him out of his cage. He now will wait on his perch, even when I open the cage and grab his food and such. He will wait until I put my arm or finger out to come out. This took a little bit for him to adjust but now he is getting the hang of it and I have noticed he is much better behaved. As far as biting goes, he only tries to bite when I try to get him to go back to his cage. Takes one kinda calm but stern “no biting” and he jumps right up with out a problem. Always love your videos, I learn so much from them. 😁
Ahhhh hey!!! I was just thinking about you, your son, and Ollie lately hoping you all were alright! This is so cool I'm so happy to hear little ornery Ollie is behaving better. These green cheeks are a trip right?!? Haha.
Very educational as always and I must say I loooved the bloopers at the end lol you and your gorgeous birds make my week lotsa love #birdsquad I'm a big fan xxx
My NINETEEN year old Quaker, who's been with me since he was a chick, just bit my top lip & DREW BLOOD. Of course it hurt PHYSICALLY, but it hurt my FEELINGS even more. He HAS bitten me before, but RARELY, and NEVER on my FACE! Ugh..SOOOO disheartening, bc he's been my BFF for such a long time. 😢 ANYway...It made me feel a LOT better to see the clip with YOUR Quaker lunging at you when you were "touching everything" in his cage. At least I know I'm not alone! 😊
Hi. Just came across your channel when searching on how to stop parrots biting. I live in Australia and have recently befriended a couple of lorikeets who sometimes bite (understandable as they are wild animals). Anyway, the reason for commenting was to say how well you present your content and how engaging you are. Although not a bird owner I watched some of your videos with much interest. Many thanks and all the best from Sydney, Australia.
Hi I just got 2 babies Quaker I'm learning a lot from you so I grow them the right way ...goos tips.... makes sense what you are teaching... thank you very much for your videos...
Apple will occasionally do little nips at my fingers and say "naughty bird." It took me a while to figure out that he only does this when I'm messing with something else (like my phone or computer). He is telling me that I'M the naughty bird because he's bored and I'm not paying attention to him. To stop this, I either put down what I'm doing, or I put him back in his room until I'm available to play.
That is so funny! Apple knows what he wants huh? Lol. I really like this approach you use with him. It's very positive and you're able to recognize what he's wanting. Thank you for sharing this Katy!! Hope you and Apple have a good week! ☺️
I love this. My Popeye is a mute Quaker. 13 months old and never says a word. Sometimes mimics whistles. When I get her out and don't play then I get the nips
Victoria, your advice in this video has worked wonders for all my birds!! No more nipping with any of them, I have 5. I have been referring this video to people in, several of the Facebook pages, I belong too. I hope you dont mind. Others are coming back, saying how it worked from them too. If you want me to stop sending your link, please let me know and accept my sincerest apologies. I wish it would have occured to me to ask you first. I can be a knuckle head sometimes.
UPDATE: Izzy has learned to recall!! Our living room is very big so she can go from the upstairs to the down and the other way around. She is now very strong in the wings. I don’t think I will start free fly any time soon as I live in a place that has a lot of bird of prey are. My mom and dad are the ones who interact with Izzy the least and when they do she bites. I’m trying to use these tips in this video and so far it’s working! She is such a lovable and cuddly baby, thank you so much for what you do and helping me do some basic training and tips for behavioral issues. We are at a point were we are learning more fun and silly tricks. Again thank you so much for what you do and keep making this information and silly content. Thank you 😊
I just came across your channel and I love this video! So informative and different from the other ones i've seen. wen't straight to your account but i think you're no longer active? honestly, wish you still made videos like this.
Hi Victoria. About 2 months ago a girl down the street had a Monk/Quaker land on her shoulder in her back yard. She posted it on the neighborhood site. I sent her an Email & said I would take it if not claimed. Here in Austin Tx we have a big colony along the river that flows thru town. So I got it. It would talk & say breaker, breaker, breaker. All it knew. So I assume that maybe it belonged to a trucker & got out. He's turning into a hoot. He has learned all kinds of words & phrases in a very short time. He likes sitting on my shoulders. But is starting to get more friendly towards my hands & fingers. I showed him one of your videos earlier & he went crazy. Trying to cuddle up. I've had lotza birds over the years & I think he will be the best of all. Only problem so far is him plucking ay my hair & whiskers. He tries to eat & drink everything that I have out. I think he will chill more as he gets older. As I think he's a very young bird. He just molted which I think may have been his first. Who knows. BTW, I''m 70yo.
I have a Quaker who is such a sweet funny and talkative bird but he is so aggressive and now he has reached new levels and won't even leave his cage like it is his safe place and he doesn't even want to come out. He used to step onto my arm nicely but now he just attacks it! But your video has given me hope and I will try what you have suggested and hope it makes a difference.
I love it, birbzilla mode! This is a great video for many birds, not just quakers. One of the best advice I have heard is to redirect, or ask the bird a question, or que him that takes the attention from biting behavior. For my cockatiel, I will say peekaboo, or what's that? anyway, sharing this video with my favorite bird trainers. I enjoy your videos and different point of view. Maren and Captian Nemo cockatiel
Haha thank you so very much!!! Oh I like the idea of asking a question. Especially the "what's that?" That you do with your cockatiel!! I'll have to give that one a try! Thank you for sharing I love hearing different trainer's approaches. Thank you again Maren and Captain Nemo!!!
Thank you! I will try these method! I have a 8 week old green cheek conure and he’s just starting to nip at me when I have my hand in his in cage during his eating time. He doesn’t bite any other time, so I will start to try these methods so he isn’t (quite literally) biting the hand that feeds him!
I had just gotten a baby Quaker that is certainly 3 1/2 weeks old, it’s name is Nova and the gender is unknown at this time. I didn’t blindly get a Quaker not knowing what I’m getting myself into but I’ve seen pros and cons on all species after doing my research and honestly think that it depends on the person. I’m hoping I can prevent these behaviors before they happen or at least be prepared for when they do and know how to handle the situations and correct them. Your videos are very helpful!
Hi, oh I totally agree, I do same things as you just said with Jake, and it works! I touch everything too and hold his beak for a bit and yes yes your correct!! Thanx (great minds, lol)Love ya
Haha no flapping way you do the same thing?!?! Guess I'm not the only weirdo out there Carol 😂 so glad it works with Jake too. Love ya too thank you for always being so dang awesome!! Tell Jakey we said hiii 👋
Hi Victoria, love your videos. My new 13 week Quaker is seemingly afraid of hands, she nips at my hand but the bites aren't nasty hard. I've never had this in years of owning parrots. I am still bonding too, could I have a few hints to help bond. Thankyou so much
Having this exact problem with our Quaker right now. He loves my husband but flies around trying to attack me. If I'm anywhere near he comes after me, beak wide open. It's getting where I'm attacked in every room. He will fly to find me. In the beginning I could be near him and he was fine but now not at all. He loves my husband and cuddles with him and everything. He was a rescue and latched on to my husband immediately. I would never think of rehoming him because my husband absolutely adores him so I just live with a crazy, manic bird chasing me with his beak wide open like a mouse to an eagle. Any suggestions from viewers would be appreciated. I just want to be able to coexist with Comet because I love him too!
Hey girl! Yeah definitely sounds like he's jealous and territorial over your man. What I recommend, is your husband brings Comet into a calmer room like the bedroom or something. You and Comet be in the room together and your husband leaves the room. Wear a jacket or something where the sleeves are thick enough and the bites won't hurt. You two spend as much time needed together until he calms down. You can even have your husband play and exercise with Comet right before all of this to get some of that energy out. While in the room, when Comet starts to bite, don't say anything and remain calm. Don't back down stand your ground. He will eventually get tired. Once he's calm, give him treats and praise him. Now, you may not be bffs after only one session of this. The goal for now is short around 10- 15 minute sessions of this everyday. You should start to see progress by the 3rd session. When you are finally able to pet him without issues, start slowly incorporating your husband. Maybe the first time, he only walks by and leaves. Then progressing with him eventually in the room with both of you. This may take some time depending on the severity of his jealousy and how well he takes this change. But the ultimate goal is teaching him that you are also an authority figure and he will not walk all over you, you two create a bond without your husband, and lastly all three of you are coexisting together as a flock. I hope this helps and hope others give their input as well! Good luck girly you can do it!
@@VictoriaRyann Thank you so much for commenting back and helping me with your advice! You are dead on that he is jealous and territorial. I will absolutely work on this as homework. We have had him since October and it has gotten so bad but what I can say is I know Comet so well and you nailed what will work to get through to him because this is how my husband won him the first day we rescued him. He seems to think he owns my hubby and Girllll we can't be having that!! Lol. I appreciate you taking time to help me and I will keep everyone posted, especially you on the progress we make. Again, thank you for ask the hero! You're the best!

I've got 2 quaker parrots named Ollie and Lilly. They have very different personalities. Your videos are very informative. I noticed this is a 5 years old video. Are you still making quaker parrot videos?
BRAVO 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 You are EXACTLY right with your tactics! You crack me up every time I watch your videos 😂 Great info & great entertainment! YOU GO GIRL! You totally ROCK!
Hi Victoria, Was Yoshi always so personable with you or did it take time for his personality to develop? I'm a new mom to a baby Conure and I'm struggling. My Kiwi does allow me to handle him but he is nippy and does not want to be on my shoulder. He doesn't seem to have to much personality or is he just shying away from me, I'm not really sure. I'm hoping with time he will be more interactive with me.
this explains a lot. I guess I was letting my female quacker act like the boss. she is not "hand raised" and was very timid at first. I assumed she's biting out of fear, and never punished her. now she bites randomly, and it's usually when she's on my head, above me. meanwhile, my nephew's quacker stopped biting, and all he had to do is not back down, and keep his hand in the cage. still, I don't feel comfortable to touch their cage, it feels like "their space", and their instincs tell them to defend it, they're not doing anything wrong. if I need to clean the cage or add something into it, I just move them to a different room for a bit.
Honestly this is what I do as well. I was never able to ignore my Storm when he would bite because he would just fly to my shoulder. It was very frustrating but he’s never been territorial with his cage or his food. But I also clean it with him on my shoulder so he sees what I’m doing. He will often chirp to me while I wash his cage and toys off. He does get little fits of aggression but we are still working on it :)
When we first got our quaker turd he was extremely aggressive. He was teased all the time and hated hands and bare shoulders. He would fly to my shoulder when his flight feathers grew back. He would bite when he wanted to have some of my food so i would make him go back to his cage giving him nothing. He learned pretty quick that aggression gets him nowhere and he stopped biting me. He now puts his beak on me or gives me kisses which i reward. Ive since started doing the same thing when he gets impatient waiting for me to be done preparing my food. If he screaches in my ear or motorboats he doesn't get to sit on my shoulder and he gets no breakfast with me. He now will go back to his cage on his own when he is getting impatient so he can scream it out or will make kissing sounds on my shoulder. His cage aggression has gotten less over the years and i can adjust his toys but he still does act territorial. Ive started just simply touching his beak and making a kiss noise to try to get him to associate my hand in his cage as a non threatening thing. So far it hasn't worked to the point i want it to but at least he doesn't try to draw blood and will give a double chirp afterwards. He's an ass at times but i know he loves me.
my bird is territorial around its cage and it doesn’t wanna step up when it’s on its cage. But when it flys to its stand it lets us play with it and it’s very nice. How do you suggest I get it away from it’s cage to train without it trying to fight me?
Cockatoos are extremely territorial. Cockatoos are *HIGH MAINTENANCE* All birds are different so you never know, it's worth a try, slowly, very slowly, baby steps on the introduction. Your Green Cheeks wont have a chance if the Cockatoo decides he/she isn't going to compete *W/the annoying little green cheeks*, just my personal experience & opinion though. 😉
Hi Topher! I agree what Renee says. Definitely take it slow since cockatoo has the size advantage. But it can definitely be done. I'd take them both in a calm room with plenty of toys and treats. Let the cockatoo in first and wonder around. Slowly bring the gcc in and watch both behavior and get a feel for how things are going. I'd let the cockatoo keep doing his thing while you simply walk around with the gcc in the room keeping some distance. If everything is going good, the next session or two you can take the next step. Repeat the same process but this time, sit there with the gcc while the cockatoo plays. If all that is going good take the next step. Let the gcc play at the opposite end of a table. Watch your cockatoo and see what his behavior is telling you. Maybe let the gcc play for a couple minutes and take him out. Eventually getting to the point that they both can wonder around near each other without any issues. If at any time you don't feel comfortable or if your cockatoo is acting different in a negative way, take the gcc out of the room and either try again later or move back a step. Hope this helps ☺️
Victoria Ryann this was so helpful we have our little baby gc and once he’s fully adjusted to his new lifestyle I’ll be sure to give this a try 😉 thanks!!!!!
Lots of love from China! I really like your videos! They are so funny! I’ve been preparing to get my parrots since April and FINALLY this weekend will have a baby pineapple green cheek and a two month old yellow cockatiel as new members to my family ~ P.S. The audio of your videos sometimes are not very good, some are hard to hear and little buzzy and also the quality of the image is a bit blurry. Would be nice to upgrade the equipment when you feel like to, but I have no complain cuz the contents are GREAT 👍🏻!
Oh my gosh no way!!! I'm so excited for you that is awesome. You'll have to keep me updated on how things go and thank you for the compliments 🥰🥰 also thank you soooooo much for the constructive criticism. Nic recently got me a new mic which I am a total ding dong cause if you noticed in this video, I kept hitting it and it made an annoying scruffy sound 🙄😅 so that's my bad. I'll pay more attention next video and see if that makes a difference. As for the image being blurry, does that include the main part of the videos when I'm sitting there talking? Or is it only like when I'm in the kitchen or older clips I add in? Or all of the above? Lol. For the main parts of my video I use natural light but if I need to use studio lights as well I definitely will! Thank you for helping me!!!!! And thanks for the compliments you're awesome!!
@@VictoriaRyann AHHH MY FIRST RUclipsR REPLY!!! *calm myself down* yes. the blurry problem I think the right word is the resolution problem, me English bad. like it's not out of focus, it's the whole image is not in a sharp quality like 1080p. I think it might because the compress or the equipment. But it's not a big issue!!! just like an optional improvement point.
This video is sooo awesome! 👏 I have a baby Quaker and I do the same thing you do reaching into her cage. Do you use a harness? I’m trying to work on that. Thanks again for a wonderful video. 👍🤩❤️🦜❤️

I just got my little boy quaker and he nibbles everything and everyone constantly. I dunno if he's just curious because he's still new here or what? Any advice? Other than that and not wanting to be petted he's a sweetie
Hi. 🤗 My quaker is young and likes to knit pick on my skin or anyone elses. That hurts because he does it with the tip of his beak. How can I break him from that? He is not an angry bird though, maybe he just has a chewing need? lol
I’ve done all this and it works. I’m trying to figure out other issues now lol. Got my Quaker at age 8 months. He was pretty sassy. Was advised to clip his wings. After that he didn’t trust my hands. Now my husband can do anything with him. Pet, play, he will roll around on hubby’s lap. He will fly to me. Always wants to be around me Sits on my arm, shoulders. But will not do anything else. I want to be able to pet his head and have him trust my hands. He will start trusting me then I need to put him in his cage and we go backwards and I start all over. It’s exhausting!
My conure is almost a year old and with in the last week he seems to have become agressive. I am really the only one that interacts with him but I do have a roommate. He has started just instantly biting me when I take him out if his cage, he hasn't broken skin but definitely left marks. His feathers get really fluffed up when he does this though. The first two days were the worst, he has calmed down a little bit but is still trying to bite alot. I have been trying the time out thing, were I put him on the cage or in the cage and ignore him for a few minutes, this was working with his little nips but isnt working with this more aggressive behavior. Any suggestions?
Hey girl. Is it possible for you to put the cage in a separate room and have a play area away from the cage? Does he ever act scared you think? Also, when you take him out of the cage and you notice he's getting into position to bite, try offering different perches or a covered arm. If you do offer your hand and he goes to bite, let him know what he did was wrong. You can say "no" very stern yet calm. If it's not out of fear, sounds like he needs some discipline. The whole ignoring thing takes care of the minor issues but yours sounds like he needs to be taught that he crossed the line. After you tell him no, keep working on getting him out don't back down. If he's really worked up, you can sit beside the cage while both of you take a break for 5 minutes or so. Then try again. Don't leave the room and don't give him treats yet. Once he wears himself out or if he's starting to back down you can praise him and offer treats. Reward his calm behavior while standing up to his bully like behavior. He needs to know you're not giving up, you're not backing down, and be a nice bird to get the treats. The same approach applies with your roommate. Tell your roommate not to be submissive and go into this with the mindset of behaviors you want from this bird. If there is hesitation and you are waiting for the bird to have the first reaction, he's going to bite and take control of the situation. I hope this makes sense and my apologies for the book I just wrote you lol you can do this and get it under control!!! ☺️
@@VictoriaRyann Victoria Ryann Thanks thanks for the book! 😊 it's good to know what might help. Based on the description in your video, I don't get the sense that he is biting out of fear. I have a pretty open concept apartment so I don't really have the option of putting his cage in another room. He also has no issues with me touching any of his stuff in the cage though, even if he is still in the cage. But I will try these tips for disciplining him! He is usually such a sweet and cuddly bird and I really want to get him back to that!
Thank you my girl my maroon belly conure recently attacked me like jumped on my shoulder and bit my neck till I was bleeding. I thought he was just seasonally Moody but we're in June now and he still acting this way thank you so much for your video
AHHHH!!!!! Thank you Glenn you're the best!!! Hope you and Sara have been doing well ☺️☺️☺️☺️ thank you for leaving such a nice comment on here the fact you even acknowledge my existence just makes my day ☺️
You are so like me! 😂 Yes, when we mimic lot of naturality to the extent possible, putting up their level of fight is also an important part! Having said that, we should choose the battles and at the end of the day love factor should triumph everything 😅
I've been watching your videos for a couple days now, cause I just got a green cheek conure. And boy he's a bitter and I've been trying your tips! It works!!! Thank you so much!! ♡♡
I know this vid is like months old and idk if anyone or you personally could help?? I have an almost year old Quaker named Theo. When I first got him, he was still pretty young but was the sweetest & most curious lil fluff ball that I would always have him with me. I was able to cuddle him & give him close lil scratches. But recently he’s been such a brat out of nowhere?? I’d hold on my finger and just pet him a bit and out of nowhere he bites. The first actual bad bite I got from him left me kinda fearful of him, cuz it hurt a lot?? And I’ve been trying to make him stop but he’s only gotten more aggressive, whenever someone besides me or my mom pass by his cage, he starts screaming like crazy. I try to offer him a snack, he wants to bite me instead, I try to help him get back to his cage cuz he fell, bites instead. I really do love the lil guy but how he throws himself to try n bite me has made me kinda scared :/
I have the exact same blue quaker but the thing is it loves everyone in my family and doesnt bite anyone but when i try to pet it it always bites me or when i try to play with him it just bites me and when i come out of my room it attacks me and flys at me with its mouth open and its been going on for months now like he just bites me every single day if i try to pet him or do any stuff like that so is there any tips you recommend to get my quaker to like me again and just be normal
i’ve only had my quaker for a year and he’s really good about not being territorial over his toys/cage/food. he’s still a baby tho, do you think he may become more aggressive w these things when he goes thru bird puberty?
My quaker is about 10 years old now. He was so sweet as a baby, but as he's getting old he's getting more aggressive. Unfortunately I was unable to keep up with his training due to family issues as much as I wanted to. I play with him while he is inside the cage with some of his toys. I feed him treats with my hand. He's not a treat eater, give him veggies nope he's not a veggie eater either. So Im gonna try the holding the beak. Am I supposed to hold the upper and lower beaks. I want to bring him out of the cage without getting my hand all bitten up and you say Not to just let him to come out on his own. Any help appreciated Victoria!!
I was so excited yesterday when I watched this video and saw you mentioned my comment! I really respect the work you do with your two little guys, so it meant so much to me that you thought I was on the right track with my training ideas. I also have seen a lot of people recommend that you ignore bites and the bird will see it to be ineffective and stop doing it. When I tried this out, the result was lots of pea-sized bruises all over my hands and arms and my green cheek Pablo showing no inclination to get bored with the biting. It seemed counterintuitive that an animal whose survival in the wild depends entirely on being a member of a flock would go around being a total jerk to his human 'flockmate'. I realized that by my ignoring his biting, Pablo could have no idea that his behaviour was not ok. Physical punishment is always out of the question so I thought this was the best method to let him know I was not ok with being his human pincushion.
No way I owe you a huge thank you! I was so happy to see another person giving their input in such a helpful and respectful way. Plus the way you work with Pablo and the way you explained the process makes total sense. I feel like too many people let their birds bully them and run the house. Then we are looked upon as not nice bird owners cause we stand up to them. But Judith you totally get it and so in tune with what your bird needs and the right approaches that works with your bird in stopping unwanted behavior. So thank you thank you for helping everyone!!!! Also thank you for the compliments I really appreciate it :) hope you and your little ornery Pablo have a great rest of the week!
Help Victoria, my conure named Monkey is 2 years old. He bites very hard everyone in my family but me. I am his main care giver. Monkey will bob up and down to get them to pet him and then after a few touchs, which he appears to like, he bites them hard, usually drawing blood. He never does this to me. It happens any time and in different areas of the house, so it's not territorial. It also happens throughout the year, so it's not hormonal. It happens when I am not nearby, so I don't think it's jealousy. What's going on and how do I get him to not bite everyone? I really need help as this is my first parrot and my family are saying he needs to go to a new home if he doesn't stop biting them.
Hey girl! That does not sound good!! I totally get where you are coming from and something has got to change. Sounds to me when I read this, your bird has a discipline issue. Do you do any form of discipline with Monkey? When he doesn't get his way or if he's had enough he goes to the extreme and lashes out on the people he knows won't do anything about it. Sounds like he's bonded to you and respects you enough not to do this. So what you've got to do, is have your family members and you, stand up to him. Teach him that he is not the boss and he is to respect members of the family. Have let's say fam member 1 wear a long sleeve shirt approach the bird in a smaller calm room. Have fam member 1 offer her arm to the bird for him to step on. If Monkey starts to bite, keep the arm there. Let him wear himself out on the covered arm while fam member 1 remains calm and doesn't back down. Once Monkey calms down and is in a calm submissive state, reward the behavior with his fav treats. Only when he is calm though. Any other time when he goes to bite, make a certain sound or phrase that will only be used to let him know you don't want that behavior. For example, if he bites you make a "shstt" sound or simply say "no" very stern but of course don't yell. Sounds like he's not a scared bird so he need to be confronted and told what he's doing is wrong. Take this way of thinking and fit it to work for you but the goal should ultimately be stand up to the bully, show him you're not affected by his outbursts, let him know you're not happy with him, reward the calm state. Keep me updated on how things go!
Hi Victoria, great video. I recently got a 6-month-old Quaker, and he/she is very afraid of my hands. Whenever I put my hand in the cage he flies around or goes to the back of the cage. I've tried giving him treats with my hand and he's slowly getting used to it but still frightened of my fingers/hand. I go to his/her cage every day to speak, sing and play. My Quaker makes this weird noise only when I go to his cage to speak to him. He brings his neck back and forth while making that noise. It looks like he wants to bite me but I'm not sure. There's no info on the internet about Quaker gestures so I'd appreciate your help. He’s also very noisy! Literally screams. Is yours like that too? how do you advise I act to get my Quaker tame? I really can't wait until we cuddle :)
Hi Tijda! ☺️ Congrats on getting a Quaker! Where is her cage located? The cage is great and makes her feel safe but we've got to encourage her to come out more. So I recommend keeping her away from the cage during the day. For example, the cage be in one room, but her play area be in another such as the living room. For the initial act of getting her out, try offering her different perches, covered arm, etc. Whatever gets her more comfortable. Since she's a fearful bird, you can try opening the cage door and have a bunch of treats and fresh fruits outside of the cage and walk away for a few. Let her gain the confidence to come out on her own. Now once you are able to bring her into a room without that cage, try bonding with her with treats and talking to her. Also plenty of toys in the playroom to to keep her mind off the idea of being frightened. The biggest advice I can give you is get that bird away from the cage lol you should see a HUGE difference with the way she acts. As far as the movement and the noise she makes, is anything like the one clip I have of Popples in this video where he's in the cage? Cause that might be the beginning of expressing territorial behavior. But if she's relaxed, feathers fluffed up, and in a normal bird posture she may just be happy to see you. On the other hand, if she is doing the head motion, feathers slicked back, eyes pinned, and her body is in what looks like a flight position.. she may be ready to attack those fingers 😬 if this is the case, don't worry about standing up to her and showing who's boss. She's a fearful bird so the goal for now is build up her confidence and bond with you. I hope this helps and keep me updated on her progress!! You're gonna do great ☺️
Victoria Ryann Thanks so much for the advice! His cage is located in my living room. It used to be in my bedroom but I had to move him since he was so noisy. He screams every morning :) I've opened the cage door for him a few times and he gets out on his own, chills outside then goes back inside the cage. One time he refused to go back inside so I had to turn off the lights and take him by force. He bit me, ouch. Quaker bites STING. I did recheck that clip and although he did this to me before, what I'm talking about is something different. I just let him bite me, thinking it can loosen his fear. I'm not sure but maybe it can mean he/she is in heat and thinks I'm a bird? Ha ha. Just a wild guess. I don't know if my bird is a male or female aswell. I try offering him fruits once outside the cage but he just flies away, lol.
Ok gotcha! Maybe make the play room in the bedroom? Yeah like with the screaming that's not typical with Quakers they are more charterers than screamers. So like anytime she's calm reward that behavior. Or anytime she's making a noise on the cage or whatever that you are ok with, reward and praise that. If it's really bad you can confront her with it and tell her no. Then once she stops, reward. But you're totally right it could possibly be hormonal with that kind of bite. Especially since you're not sure what the gender is. Maybe instead of fruits pick something that she does like? Such as toys, certain object, something to get the curiousity going to make her want to come out. Either way, we will figure it out ☺️☺️☺️
Victoria Ryann You’re so helpful 😊 I will definitely try following your advice, especially with the screaming. This is the noise he makes most of the time: ruclips.net/video/6uTodVEvOXc/видео.html. When I go near Jade to talk, Jade makes this loud chattering sound, I don’t know if that’s good or bad. And that other behaviour too 🤔
I have a hand-fed, 6 week old Quaker parrot named Azul. Hes been bitting me and i do think hes territorial. Do you clip your Quakers wings? I will try these things! Thank you!
Need a help with regards to health. Do Conurs birds cause Breathing problem like allergies in Humans, like the birds droppings or from the feather powder? please guide 🙏
Hi! Thanks for the help👍I have a blue quaker named Ava and she is a sweety but she does nip quite a bit. She is 4 months old for context. She sits on my shoulder or my arm/hand and she'll be "preening me" when she finds a scar or scab or pimple, something like that, and she grabs a hold and tries to pull it off. She will also bite my fingers sometimes but thats because she gets mad at me for not letting her bite my face, arm, or neck. What kind of bite would you consider that? What method should I use in that situation?
Question: During the winter, my birbs all have their flight fleathers, In the summer, I want to take Pepper (3yr quaker female) with me like EVERYWHERE (even town to petco). she is NOT ok with the flight harness (she throws it and it an threatens to bite about it and me). Is it ok to have her clipped for travel?
Love your videos! My 9 month quaker parrot has started biting while it nibbles on us. I think it gets carried away because it's not an aggressive bite, as it doesn't hurt but more like peels a bit of skin off. Any suggestions on how to make it not bite while showing love? Or should it not be doing that at all? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!
Hi Victoria,I have a question about Quakers parrot,I will like to know if they're Free Dander dust and also how much Feathers do they normally drop please if you can help me with this information I'll will Appreciate.
Hey Omar hopefully I can help ya out... My Quaker is a little dusty but not nearly as bad as cockatoos by any means. He is definitely dustier than my green cheek but again it's not bad. I used to have pretty bad allergies and he has never bothered them. As far as feathers go... Again it's more than my green cheek but not bad. The majority of the feathers I find are little baby looking feathers that kind of get mixed in with dust and pellets that they drop. Overall not bad at all at least for me. Hope this helps.
@@VictoriaRyann I'm searching for a baby Quaker or a baby Green cheek conure, so your Advice really helps me a lot thanks for taking the time and giving me the best Advice appreciate

WHAT IS THIS BLASPHEMY RUclips. Where is the real sauce?!? 🧐🤭🤔🤣
I have a six week old Quaker parrot who is just now starting to put his beak on my skin as if to bite me but he does not do it hard enough for it to hurt. Is this something that needs to be corrected? I want to make sure I train him right because I want to correct it now before it becomes to serious or more frequent with him.
Hey Samantha yeah this is something that I am glad that you are noticing and aware of whats going on. Do you think you two are very bonded yet? Cause we don't want to do anything that can jeopardize your bond. I would definitely work on it now before the potential of it escalating into something worse. As well as teaching him at an early age that this behavior isnt acceptable. Have you tried redirecting his behavior? You can do that with a mixture of saying "no" calmly and maybe even a slight 'bite' imitation on the side of his beak if it gets more frequent. Hope this gives you some direction :)
I have a Quaker parrot (named Nigel 💕💕) and I’m trying to teach him step up cause I just got him a month ago but he does this weird thing of licking my hands and occasionally biting (not super hard but it can be) and he doesn’t seem to be interested in treats, the target stick, or toys when my hand is around.. today he licked my hands for around 10 mins and wouldn’t step up onto it.. btw I’m using your method with the stepping up onto sleeves and he’s getting the hang of that! And I would raise my hand higher cause birds tend to climb up but he just chilled on my wrist (end of the sleeve) licking my hand 😛 I don’t know what to do to encourage him to step up to my hand and not lick and bite it
Lol with the hand licking! Very odd question I'm about to ask you but do you sweat, oily, or have almost a 'salty' taste to your skin? 😅 Which could be the case as to why your bird does this. My husband is this way and Yoshi will lick him nonstop 😂 as for the stepping up, do you offer your hand and wait for him to respond? Because you may need to instead of waiting or letting him decide, go in with the mindset that this bird is going to step up. Take your finger and without hesitation, move it right towards his feet. In a quick motion bring your finger towards the feet and actually touching them not giving him much time to think about it and decide. Do it quick enough where his brain doesn't have time to make the decision you make the decision first and quickly (obviously not knocking him over or scaring him lol) I hope that makes sense...
I have a Quaker and he's very young he's 2 months old and he likes to chew on EVERYTHING from my phone to pulling ear buds out of my ears and yes he bites me fingers and ears ALL THE TIME. It's not aggression, nor is it territorial or fear. He's just playing but it HURTS. How do I address this???
I have an 18 year old gcc who I rescued a few years ago. He’s soooo nice but since he was diagnosed with heart murmur and seizures he needs meds twice a day. He’s been nippy he try to pull my skin off. 😢 how can I get this bond back? I need to give his meds for life.
I have a quaker and she was very sweet at first, I would hold her every day and then one day she just started biting so bad and now I can’t even go near her. She’s about 4 and I don’t know what to do. She does that open mouth hissing thing that your quaker does in a few of your clips, but she latches on if she gets a hold of me and will keep biting hard.
My quaker don't bite me but its a pit bull to every other birds. He got no bird friends. He literally pulls out the head feathers of my cockatiel and the screams still haunts me till now. What should I do?
Mine is 3 years old and recently started biting real hard for absolutely no reason at all. He used to bite occasionally when encountering something he doesn't like or is scared of. It was more like a snapping turtle kind of biting. Now he bites as if he actually wants to hurt me. The aggression that you talked about. He would bite real hard and hold on to my skin. Ends up bleeding most of the time. And I feel bad but I'm also a human and after numbers of biting and bleeding I started taking it personally. I tried water spraying, holding his beak, scaring him off only works temporarily. Hardest part is that I cant guess when he is going to bite. He would kiss me and be friendly and all in a sudden decides to bite.

Victoria, you have natural understanding of those birds. A person either has it or they don"t and you got a double dose, :)

She USE to be cage aggressive and I worked WITH her to show that it's safe outside as well as inside, but I am learning about her behavior. so This helps alot. Just purchased my first quaker and damn he's got a nasty ass bite. Gonna try this and see if it works 👍
Well did it work loool got mine today and their is bad bite marks all over my hand will try this lol

This really helped ✨💗
how old is your quaker? Mine is about 10 years old and was wondering if its too late to try and keep him from biting me.
I still adore the little fella so he is with me for life, I would just rather not have another decade of bites :)
What should I do?
Haha.

Hello wowgaming ☺️
I just got a new maroon bellied conure and me and my dad have just been watching your videos together.🤣
Love your videos! Will be hopefully getting my first GCC soon!
Also, love your hair color! What brand/color do you use?
"all the help" not ask the hero.... Oops!

great video
Good tips
Thank you so very much Clinton :)
I've got 2 quaker parrots named Ollie and Lilly. They have very different personalities. Your videos are very informative. I noticed this is a 5 years old video. Are you still making quaker parrot videos?
When my bird bites something or someone he will say owe
Hey purple nugget you are one awesome nugget 😂
yes an awesome nugget indeed lol
BRAVO 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 You are EXACTLY right with your tactics! You crack me up every time I watch your videos 😂 Great info & great entertainment!

I've been great Victoria, thank you! I hope your doing great too!!
Me encantó el video!
this explains a lot.
Great minds think alike Skyler ;) so cool though and glad things have been getting better for you and bird :) hope you have a good week.
Love your vids
Ahhhh thank you I love u for saying that 😀
When we first got our quaker turd he was extremely aggressive.
Would this method work on cockatiels too?
my bird is territorial around its cage and it doesn’t wanna step up when it’s on its cage. But when it flys to its stand it lets us play with it and it’s very nice. How do you suggest I get it away from it’s cage to train without it trying to fight me?
OH MY WORD!!! THANK YOU! I will start this today. 🥰
dont pull but push a little if they bite, worked for my lovebird.
So we are wanting to get a green cheek but we also have a Goffins cockatoo should we try to get them to be friends or just keep them separate and how?
Cockatoos are extremely territorial. Cockatoos are *HIGH MAINTENANCE*
All birds are different so you never know, it's worth a try, slowly, very slowly, baby steps on the introduction.
They also bite out of over excitement. Bob gets a time out to calm down.
You are so right they do!
Where do you get your bird’s treats from. I have a green Quaker.
Lots of love from China! I really like your videos! They are so funny! I’ve been preparing to get my parrots since April and FINALLY this weekend will have a baby pineapple green cheek and a two month old yellow cockatiel as new members to my family ~

I just got my little boy quaker and he nibbles everything and everyone constantly. I dunno if he's just curious because he's still new here or what? Any advice? Other than that and not wanting to be petted he's a sweetie
Hi. 🤗
My quaker is young and likes to knit pick on my skin or anyone elses. That hurts because he does it with the tip of his beak. How can I break him from that? He is not an angry bird though, maybe he just has a chewing need? lol
I wanted to see how you pinched the beak. Need the visual. Ty

Gcc are my fav birds thing with them is they are testy once u break that and they r usually amazing
Do you have any tips for how to stop continuous aggression of one quaker towards another quaker?
I have the exact same blue quaker but the thing is it loves everyone in my family and doesnt bite anyone but when i try to pet it it always bites me or when i try to play with him it just bites me and when i come out of my room it attacks me and flys at me with its mouth open and its been going on for months now like he just bites me every single day if i try to pet him or do any stuff like that so is there any tips you recommend to get my quaker to like me again and just be normal
Woah
These help A lot
i’ve only had my quaker for a year and he’s really good about not being territorial over his toys/cage/food. he’s still a baby tho, do you think he may become more aggressive w these things when he goes thru bird puberty?
Great video helped out alot thanks.
Beak trick works for me. Gently squeeze the sides and he will let go.
@@VictoriaRyann thank you, I will try it.

I know it’s late. But not doing it at all is the best tactic.

Victoria Ryann I don’t haha 😆 but thanks! I’ll have to try that! 🌞
@@minechick65 haha hey worth a shot 😂😂😂 maybe it's just kisses then or the texture of your fingers 😅 alrighty girl good luck 😊😊😊
My Quaker sleeps on top of the cage is that okay?
I’m a man and I consider myself a momma birb 😂 😂 thanks for the advice via agree with your tactics it the seem to be working it’s takes time
I have an 18 year old gcc who I rescued a few years ago.
Keep them apart
How did that turn out for you? Did you get it resolved?
