  • Groveland is a small town West of Yosemite National Park. It is the last real town before the traveler arrives in Yosemite on the Hwy 120 route into the Park. Groveland has a colorful history, come along on a tour of the town and a visit the world famous Iron Door Saloon, the oldest saloon in the USA established in 1852. Groveland was originally a Gold Rush town established in 1849, and later served the construction of the Hetch Hetchy Dam from 1915 to 1935. It's had its ups and downs but was never a full fledged Ghost Town. We also check out the treacherous Old Priest Grade Road and the Old Priest Café.

1:03 We had a cabin in pine mountain lake and would spend a lot of time in Groveland. I was surprised to see the cafe for sale.
Iron Door is truly a landmark

Thanks for the comment! Unfortunately, it seems there’s always a lot of turnover in these small towns.
