She's great and a joy to listen to, and the whole production team is top-notch with the photography, lighting, recording, and mastering. It all comes together amazingly well.
I totally want to learn the baroque flute. I love Bach, Telemann, Mozart, etc and it's be so fun to play the pieces on a historically accurate instrument.
Particularly beautiful sound from the Baroque Flute, and somehow very inviting and charming to my ears. Thanks for the demo and interesting information.
I also love a conical flute -- I play just as an amateur who does it for myself, but I love them. Baroque and 19th century simple system both are so beautiful.
this video is so informative as she tells about the instrument with so much passion and love for it and ending the video with a piece of music is just like the icing on the cake.
Also felt in love instantly with your passion for the baroque flute and your baroque flute playing. Your treatment of the lovely baroque flute tone colour and the way you taper off the G to melt with reverberation of hall, simply exquisite
Lovely presentation, and choice of the 1034 to showcase - which were it not for the echo in the space might be the nicest performance of it I've heard.
short but sweet, this video conveyed much clear information in little time. Personally I've found the sound of the Renaissance flute particularly enchanting. I must research it more.
I love the enthusiasm of the Dutch musicians on baroque music, especially played on historic instruments. The reasons she told in the video why I stuck on the recorder, and why I resisted as a child to practice the clarinet. I practiced even the "sharpy" clarinet etudes on my recorder instead of that reed instrument. Baroque woodwinds are simple as possible, only a few holes (7 +1 thumb for the recorder), no Boehm-system keys, which I was alwasys messed with on the clarinet. I also can play the pieces she played for demonstration. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to sound properly a flute, (I've tried it a few times) but I love the sound of the baroque one. The modern, Boehm-flute has a harsh, almost aggressive sound, which is good for the symphonic orchestra playing romantical or modern pieces, but I prefer that soft sound for baroque chamber music.
Great video!!! I'm also a flutist and started to research about the baroque flute and hopefully to play it soon, thank you for this video, it helped me a lot, more videos like this ❤❤
Thank you so much for these educational videos. I already knew a lot about the baroque flute, but I didn’t realize that this fingering system was the same for classical and early romantic era flutes as well. Such a shame that most people nowadays will never hear historical music played on period instruments, as the standard modern orchestra and modern instruments are used to play virtually all classical repertoire written for orchestra.
Wonderful pieces of music, gives me a lot of motivation to going on learning the baroque flute - waiting for more Videos of your great Ensemble! Thank you!
so interesting, really great idea to present the history of instruments, but...so sad when the music already stopped 😪 i'd like a 15mn recording, it was so beautiful these piece of music. your channel is unique, really special, my favorite on youtube.
I found this channel by chance... and it is one of the best I am suscribed to. All your videos are gold, and this one is very interesting. Keep up the good work!
My introduction to flute music was James Gallway's recordings and that metallic sound was very discomforting to my ears. Many years later, I discovered performances on period instruments and I could love listening to Bach again.
What fantastic acoustics in wherever she is. If I didn't know better, I'd almost think everything was put through a reverb pedal. It makes a nice sharp note. The modern flute is a little breathy. Which can be nice. Not necessarily a bad thing.
Sounds to me too like they've added some reverb to the recording. It's not present when she speaks so I don't think it's the natural response of the building - but I could be wrong.
Thanks! I’m focusing on the Recorder right now. I wonder how the Baroque Flute would work for playing Folk music? I tried the Baroque Flute in the 90’s focusing on Baroque music. I wonder how it would work on English, Cape Breton and Irish Folk music? I want to have a little different sound for these other than the usual keyed wooden Flute. I’m also working on this music with the Violin. 😎
@@VoicesofMusic Well done! I've sent my account for subtitles, could you quote me in the description as "Luca Marutti"? A warm greeting and see you soon!
Irish flute is more like a 19th century or late Classical flute. The bore is conical. Renaissance flute has no keys and the bore is nearly cylindrical. Some Irish flutes are made without keys, but typically the bore design is of a later style. There's lots of different types.

Kate Clark is best Traverso player I’ve ever heard! I would love to study with her!

So happy you have posted this! Kate Clark is a wonderful musician and I love the way she communicates her enthusiasm for her instrument 💜
More to come!
Her speaking voice sounds like a Baroque flute. Lovely.
I also love a conical flute -- I play just as an amateur who does it for myself, but I love them. Baroque and 19th century simple system both are so beautiful.
Absolutely love Kate Clark !! I could listen to her talk and play ALL-DAY!
I ABSOLUTELY love love that baroque flute, please record more Bach....❤️❤️❤️
I love the sound of the baroque flute
Agree!
this video is so informative as she tells about the instrument with so much passion and love for it and ending the video with a piece of music is just like the icing on the cake.

This is wonderful, it really shows how beautiful these instruments are, I hope something similar is done for the Treble recorder.

I just bought an aulos plastic baroque flute and unfortunately youtube has such little informative videos on the subject.
Those are decent flutes :)
@@VoicesofMusic glad to hear that. I cant wait to start learning to play.
Wonderful tone. Thank you.
Glad you like it!
Perfect, i love flute!
Thanks for uploading this.
Adorable
Excellent lesson. Beautiful sound.
Metal can never beat wood, the sound texture on baroque or Indian bamboo flute is heavenly
Very very interesting and well explained !
Wunderbar!
Wonderful informative video
Wonderful... thanks!
It's divine
Amazing. Thank you.
I hope the next video is Hanneke giving us a lesson on the splendid harpsichord just behind Kate 🥺❤️
I wish I could take a historical flute class!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Works great for folk music, but there are also Irish flutes and folk flutes.
Really interesting and wonderifully played! Which piece did you play on the Renaissance flute (and afterwards on the Baroque flute)?
Lovely
The exerpt at the beginning was a bit of Badinerie by J.S.Bach
Indeed.
See what you mean about the sound. Anyone can love that sound.
Erg leuk filmpje
Any suggestions on where to buy a Baroque flute.
This is one of the ones Kate plays. They are all handmade. www.wennerfloeten.de/en/products/transverse-flutes/c-palanca/
Can I help you by putting subtitles in Italian?
Working on it.....
@@VoicesofMusic Well done! I've sent my account for subtitles, could you quote me in the description as "Luca Marutti"? A warm greeting and see you soon!
Haha the “renaissance flute” really feels to me like modern invention 😛 They come in 440hz mostly too.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
What's the name of the piece played at the start of the video, composed by Bach?
It's Bach's Badinerie from BWV 1067 Suite No. 2

Please, what's the name of the song she plays in 1:32?

> Why do we call this the "Barack Flute"?
Um, because Obama played it.
what's obama's last name ?
