When I realized why Piranesi wasn't polished bones beside the other dead ones I had to keep this book forever. *mild spoiler* As an immigrant he was never accepted, he was always a stranger in a strange land. Piranesi was learning to adapt and survive in a hostile land long before he got trapped in the maze that wore away his memory like water wears away stone.

When you were talking about how OCD compels you to unhaul stuff, I felt so seen! I have OCD, too, and I am constantly culling my clothes, books, DVDs, etc. so that only my all time favorites remain in my possession. It just feels so good to get rid of stuff LOL
Loved watching this, loved seeing a good unhaul. It's nice when you've accepted that you're not going to read or re-read a book and can move on from it. I felt you so much on that GoT unhaul, he's truly never going to finish those books 🐕

And that I hope they’re being absolutely blown away by the mundanities of life because they’re seeing them for the first time and that it’s riveting for them
It's Joyce Carol Oates! You've probably heard about her writing before because she wrote the Marilyn Monroe book Blonde that was adapted by Netflix like a year ago. I haven't read 48 clues, but I really enjoyed some of her other works, you should maybe give that one a chance!
🐕i remember hearing all of the excitement and buzz surrounding piranesi ages ago and picked it up when i saw it at the library, mostly cause i was curious as to why people were so into it and wouldn't explain ANY details about the plot. needless to say ? i fell in LOVE with it ! it's such a weird little book, almost labyrinthian in how it explains the plot. highly recommend ! (then again, i am very biased cause i love weird convoluted plots anyways lmao). i would say keep it and give it a shot ! it's not that long so i think it'd be a pretty quick read ^^ !!
Piranesi is one of my personal FAVE books. I can't say for sure if it's to your personal taste, but it's short and it's a very beloved, so I think it's worth trying before you decide to get rid of it. Also, you HAVE probably heard of Joyce Carol Oates (not Dates).

This is what I love about booktube. Everybody has different reading tastes. There were some books I completely agreed with your opinions and others I absolutely loved. Also, unhauls are some of my favorite videos to watch. 🥰
Who ever says they don't judge a book by its cover.... How do you choose which books to even read the synopsis of when in the bookstore? Something catches your eye! We all judge let's be real! A perfect example for me was the lies of Locke Lamora. The original cover I would never pick that book up, I would never read that book, however, the new soft cover is definitely a book I would pick up and I bought the soft cover because I said that I could not read the other version with the boring cover. It changes the overall vibe.
Omg I love your energy 🥹 I came from Sara’s channel. Love your approach on not feeling too bad about DNFing books forever or being like “i know this isn’t for me and I can’t waste time verifying that”. Love that!
Piranesi is one of my favorite books but I don't know if you would like it.. if you like labyrinth stories with unexplainable things happening that you figure out alongside the character, and an other-worldly atmospheric read though, you may like it.
I thought the first 100 pages are full of characterization and zero plot development so I took one star for taking this much pages for setting in a short book, but after this, the book is SO amazing. Karie should listen to the audio and unhaul the physical copy
Frieren beyond journey's end is one of the best manga series I have ever read. However it is slow paced and mostly cozy so if you prefer something action heavy then maybe it isn't for you. I absolutely love it though, the character development is outstanding. It mixes light hearted and funny moments with deeper themes and it really hits hard !
Oooh girl! Give Small Worlds a try! That is the same author that wrote Open Water which was so beautiful in my opinion. I am really excited to read Small Worlds
I have to read Open Water this year, some people that have similar taste as mine gave it 5 stars, I'm curious, but with no expectations because their reading experiences is not mine, ofc
Hi Katie I'm not sure what omnipod you have but on my son's you can go in settings and scroll down to reminders and chose pod expiry and adjust to amount of time (smallest is 1 hr) hope you can do this on yours. Sorry for information dump but i can barely cope for an hour dont know what id do for 8 hours.
about spy family and episodic manga series: here is a thing, in japan the way manga industry works is whole dependent on ratings. regardless on whether it is episodic or not. but that's not important right now. say there is a magazine that spu family is published in [idk what it is cause i'm not personally reading it] and an issue come out once every month or once a quater or whatever. so every issue or every couple of issues they look at the ratings. aka how many ppl are reading and enjoying and the series. there are like questionnaires and shit like that. also they look at volumes sales. so as long as the rating are within a certain number [which can be different depending on magazine, target audience, genre, etc, a number of factor really] the series is going to continue and, if we are talking about episodic series, stay relatively episodic. there will be arcs, but the main plot is going to move at snail's pace. you will find out things like say some characters' backstory or why certain things the way they are, but the main plot, aka what was set up in the first or second volume is going to drag. when the editors will see that okay, the ratings are dropping they will try and introduce some "new and exciting" shit. like say this new character that they anticipate ppl will like or this sudden danger or whatever. and generally this will go on for like some time, like a roller coaster. ratings good -- continue, ratings drop -- let's do smth, oh look, rating are back again. but as a rule, around after volume 15 the decline becomes more and more steady. so then the editor and the mangaka see that aha, time to wrap shit up or they will just cancel us as netflix cancels tv shows after first seasons out of the blue and the readers will have no resolutions. so the story suddenly remembers the plot they introduced in the beginning. here it's "the reason we're doing this mission" and "oh my god, all three of us are hiding secrets, what if we found out each other's secrets". so this shit sort of takes central stage out of nowhere. smth happens that changes the status quo and we have no other way but actually do the main plot. and it usually takes about two volumes. in my experience i don't see spy family running for more than 25 volumes and honestly that's me being generous. and you can expect the main plot to /actually/ move in like two, maybe three, final volumes. also, if you're at all curious about manga industry i really recommend the series Bakuman. it's from the same ppl who created death note and it's really good. it's actually somewhat based on their own experience. it's an older series but this is not an industry that see a lot of changes with time in japan so it's still fairly good in giving you at least a basic understanding of how things work, apart from being just a very good series. [there is also a yaoi series about manga industry but it's an older one and it's very yaoi aka if you were to start to read it in 2024 you'd find it very... disturbing in regards to how... r-wordy it is]
Thank you for leaving in the Omnipod drama! It’s refreshing to see someone else OVER IT when it comes to chronic illness. The Fifth Season is one of my favorite series! I binged the whole thing and it’s amazing. But Schaffa does something in book two that made me knock off a star out of spite. 😂😂
I absolutely love this video! your personality, your opinions, the editing - so original and entertaining. I tend to get a bit bored throughout booktube videos but not with yours! thank you for your content ❤
My Little Women loving heart was yelling at the screen for you to keep that copy cause it’s so friggin cute and I’ve been searching for it 😂 I admire your ability to be able to go through and get rid of books. I struggle with it. 🐕🐕
Every time you mention the sinners duet it makes me smile since I put the second one on my top books of 2023.😅 The Girl From the Other Side always looks adorable. I really want to give it a try. I adore Frieren so very much. If you are having a hard time with the manga, but still enjoy the art I'd recommend just watching the anime. The animation is just as good as the manga art style and the added music to each of the scenes makes it just that much better.🐶
i feel your pain with the veronica speedwell paperback/hardback dilemma😭 i’m so close to ditching my paperbacks and getting the hardbacks but i can’t get over the fact that the first book doesn’t match the others in hardback😭😭
Right?! I thought the same thing. But honestly, it doesn’t stand out like I thought it would. Also, my dad said that you can have a cover printed to match the series. I just don’t know the exact dimensions and paper weight I’d need to use yet
@@katieisreading people can do this! I'm Brazilian and a guy I lnow did a jacket for the Brazilian edition of Divine Rivals using the cover of one of the exclusive editions of the book. He used "coated paper", 170g
I view my bookshelves in a very similar way which led me to a mental breakdown in the last two years. I kept buying all of the new, anticipated releases only to be extremely disappointed.. Babel, Addie Larue, Ninth House, etc. Plus every sequel to a book that I previously liked was terrible. I got so frustrated that I sold and gave away more than half of my collection. Now I use my Kindle more and buy only my favorites. I just couldn’t stare at those books I didn’t enjoy it was toxic energy 😂
Immortal longings is amazing, the grungy 90s vibes big city setting, the grey morality characters and the deranged "romance" subpot, the fighting scenes
I assess my shelves the same way lol. Also, it's Joyce Carol Oates. That's probably why it seems familiar since they are very popular in literary fiction.
Hi Katie. I really enjoyed The Whispers but I understand how you feel about all the different points of view. You actually may enjoy AA's previous book, The Push more! And that Little Women copy is absolutely gorgeous. I'd want it on my shelf just for the beautiful aesthetic. ❤ 🐕🎀👔
I always find it funny in your videos when your Dexcom or Omnipod goes off and I immediately think it’s mine lol…. But then the relief that it’s not 😅 but just wanted to let you know you can change the setting for the 8 hour alarms! I changed mine to 4 hours before expiration and it’s much less annoying!
You explaining how your brain works when you look at your shelves I related to way too hard 😂. THE BOMTASTIC SIDE EYE AUDIO I'M CRYING 😂😂😂😂😂 THE OMIPOD SAGA 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶
I don't know if this is my OCD or not, but I am constantly either hauling or unhauling things - my room tends to be a revolving door for many things. I also gave up on Carlos Ruiz Zafon books, I was so bored in all of his books that I tried. Definitely not a loss there. For the long series, there are usually dips from the initial storyline or whatever made the series fantastic, but where the author goes from there can depend. They either refind their mojo after a few volumes or they've lost it forever and are only continuing for money and/or the demands of the fandom. It'll be a 50/50 chance, so honestly I would recommend reading it online and see how you feel as it progresses. And if you aren't feeling it right now, you can wait till its finished to pick it up again or ask someone else who has continued to read it if its worth it or not. 🐕
I have OCD also its the magical thinking! I have a hard time getting rid of stuff! Like i may get a vibe that something bad will happen if I get rid of something! Somehow I am not a hoarder!
If you haven't watched Frieren, you absolutely should. It's so good. I watched what was available first then started reading the manga and I felt like the manga was more enjoyable having seen the events play out in the show first.
If you like not knowing what the actual F is happening in a book until the end reveal, definitely read Piranesi. It’s good going into it without knowing the plot. It’s written in like diary entries
Keep little women!! I have a ton of books that I read the audio but bought a beautiful edition of. Am I ever gonna read it physically? Nope but my shelves look amazing 🐶🐶
Nooo, shadow of the wind is so good. But I imagined it was going to be an unhaul. But it is an amazing book and one to highlight beautiful quotes. Also it is a mystery and historical ficiton.
I just saw Taylor Momsen live supporting AC/DC and she was awesome, I will never loose the emo goth in me and I'm 39! Although I guess I'm in my romantic goth/goth grunge era. love the look!
Omg Katie I read Shadow of the Wind last year and while the plot was interesting and kind of crazy, the book was so mysoginistic. I don't say that lightly. This book SCREAMS Written by a Man™️ So many men lusting after women and making gross comments abot their breasts/ass. I get that it takes place in the 40s/50s but that's no excuse. It was sooo weird. Edit : forgot to say that you're not missing anything
i have a lot of friends who love game of thrones / asoiaf and who keep telling me to read it, and i always tell them that i'll read it when the series is finished... which is my polite way of telling them that i'm never going to read it 😭
For Frieren, I think some of the magic gets lost in later volumes unlike other fantasy manga like Delicious in Dungeon or Witch Hat Atelier where the momentum picks up and the world expands. Loved the first few volumes but it doesn't feel like the story or characters are going anywhere afterwards 😕 🐶
I came too late to get the hardcover ACOTAR set. Sad day 😢😢 I found a court of silver flames in hardcover at half price books but I babe not been able to find any of the others
I'm so inspired to unhaul now!! I feel like you should definitely give Daughter of No Worlds a chance. I read Serpent and the Wings of Night and I don't really like romantasy BUT that book had me GAGGED. I've read the first few chapters of Daughter of No Worlds and I'm really liking it so far. The MC is giving Celeana Sardothein but better tbh
I read up to Volume 6 in the Frieren series and the only reason I stopped is because my library didn't have the others. Volumes 1 - 4 were cute. They weren't groundbreaking, but I gave each of them 3 ⭐s. But then volumes 5 and 6 were amazing and I was absolutely bummed that I could not continue. I think you can get up to volumes 10 in English, but 11 and 12 are not in English yet. Unless someone can tell me I'm wrong.
I find it so silly when readers dont read books that have a high page count. Or complain when a book is long... Like if the book is good and the story is engrossing, why is it a problem? Arent series just one long book?
seriously though! I was looking at a special edition and was reeeeally tempted. But it's blue and I'm not into that color. So I talked myself out of it, ha
*follows your pangobooks immediately* i too struggle with the veronica speedwell series paperback vs. hardback dilemma. trying to collect in paperback but i may abandon...
Omg, I was just watching your videos! Hey! Are you going to do a Best Books of 2023 video? I know I saw your two videos where you were narrowing them down. Just curious if that third video was still something you were considering? Also, RIGHT?! Katya is everything.
The author of 48 Clues into the Disappearance of My Sister is Joyce Carol Oates...the cover designer chose a poor font. She is a great author, but I had never heard of that book either.😊 Also: 🐕
I read A Brief History of Living Forever and really liked it. It goes off the rails and gets a little sci-fi near the end though. But it was unique and a good time.
Katie, there isn't any rule saying you can't read and get rid of the book. I read a book and get rid of it give to someone else or put it in a free little library.
I feel the same about Junji Ito, read one manga and liked it but every time I've tried to pick something up since I just can't with the art style. omg thank you!!!!! I tried reading The Girl From The Other Side and I was so freaking bored omg I don't get the hype!

But then the relief that it’s not 😅 but just wanted to let you know you can change the setting for the 8 hour alarms! I changed mine to 4 hours before expiration and it’s much less annoying!
I love thrillers but I never reread them so I always look at my thriller shelf like “why are you here”
You explaining how your brain works when you look at your shelves I related to way too hard 😂.
We support unhauling in this household!! 👏
If you like not knowing what the actual F is happening in a book until the end reveal, definitely read Piranesi. It’s good going into it without knowing the plot. It’s written in like diary entries
Personally, Desert Creatures is one I've been interested in and I would really love to hear your thoughts on it! Same goes for Small Worlds😄
I really enjoyed Promise Boys, its a YA but is a quick read. It’s a good reading.❤ Give it a try before getting rid of it
I just saw Taylor Momsen live supporting AC/DC and she was awesome, I will never loose the emo goth in me and I'm 39! Although I guess I'm in my romantic goth/goth grunge era. love the look!
Lol. My new insulin pump beeps constantly for stupid reasons. It even tries to shut down cos I've been idle...like when I sleep.
See! It's so annoying. Thank you for giving me someone to relate to about this.
Omg Katie I read Shadow of the Wind last year and while the plot was interesting and kind of crazy, the book was so mysoginistic. I don't say that lightly. This book SCREAMS Written by a Man™️
So many men lusting after women and making gross comments abot their breasts/ass. I get that it takes place in the 40s/50s but that's no excuse. It was sooo weird.
Edit : forgot to say that you're not missing anything
i have a lot of friends who love game of thrones / asoiaf and who keep telling me to read it, and i always tell them that i'll read it when the series is finished... which is my polite way of telling them that i'm never going to read it 😭
I would recommend listening to Piranesi on audio. I’ve listened to it 3 times so far, it’s my favourite audiobook I’ve listened to so far.
i read the synopsis for desert creatures...actually sounds interesting maybe try it ✌
i’ve been bingeing book hauls and your videos, this is perfect!
Omg I love your t-shirt!
FINALLY someone else who couldn’t get into Legendborn. i just did not care enough about anything happening and dnf’d like 24% in.
Piranesi was one of my favorite books last year and read it in one sitting please give it a shot.
Great unhaul. I definitely gotta get through my entire book collection in the next two years at least lol, and do some damage unhauling. 📚☕⛄❄️
Congrats on your unhaul. New to channel. Enjoyed your vid.❤🐕🐕🐕😊
I think you should keep the riley sager ones.. and piranesi, at least give it a try... 🐶
I find it so silly when readers dont read books that have a high page count. Or complain when a book is long... Like if the book is good and the story is engrossing, why is it a problem? Arent series just one long book?
Okay I’m here for the eyeliner!! Pop off
I'm a pro at removing author signed pages before unhaling books. 😂
you with addie larue: "i love this book but don't need 2 editions"
me with addie larue: "i love this book & need all 6 of the editions i own and more"
seriously though! I was looking at a special edition and was reeeeally tempted. But it's blue and I'm not into that color. So I talked myself out of it, ha
@KatieColson there's also a red one👀 and a black/silver one and a white one and i own them all😂😂
Lmao 🤣 hehe
🐶 great video! Unhauls are so satisfying!
*follows your pangobooks immediately* i too struggle with the veronica speedwell series paperback vs. hardback dilemma. trying to collect in paperback but i may abandon...
I have read little women so many times. One of my all time favorites. I read it for the first time when I was in middle school. You should read it.
I totally understand the i really enjoyed these books but they don't deserve placement on my shelves.
I am dying to get my hands on your annotated A Curious Beginning series....
I love your shirt Katie!!
She is a great author, but I had never heard of that book either.😊
Also: 🐕
ACOSF IS SO WORTH THE READ CASSIAN AND NESTA ARE EVERYTHING
Love a good unhaul once in a awhile 🐶
While I'll admit Mister Magic isn't for everyone, I really loved it and would recommend it to anyone who likes surreal/weird horror!
I read A Brief History of Living Forever and really liked it. It goes off the rails and gets a little sci-fi near the end though. But it was unique and a good time.
I reading the empire of the vampire and I love it as well
Katie, there isn't any rule saying you can't read and get rid of the book. I read a book and get rid of it give to someone else or put it in a free little library.
I originally thought this was a 'huge book haul' and was confused why you hated your new books so much 🤣
LMAO you spinwheeling (1:20) legit made me dizzy! I had to shake my head and reorient myself xD
I feel the same about Junji Ito, read one manga and liked it but every time I've tried to pick something up since I just can't with the art style.
omg thank you!!!!! I tried reading The Girl From The Other Side and I was so freaking bored omg I don't get the hype!
