I don't think people realize this isn't to be "innovative" this is an Audi e Tron, a fully electric vehicle. This is designed to reduce drag from traditional mirrors and increase aerodynamic efficiency. Which, by the way, test results have shown that having these over traditional mirrors improved aerodynamics significantly.
You probably need to elaborate what "significantly" is numerical. Over the course of the 'life' of the car... If I saved... Hypothetically speaking $10,000...Which I doubt... That'll probably end up going to fix the issue with the camera, monitor or something something.... There's a saying..... If somethings not broke, don't fix it

At least you can get it fixed at literally any shop whenever something breaks. My friend is a mechanic and he hates working on anything that has electric engine in it. Even hybrids require a lot of extra work that makes it more expensive and complicated. He spent thousands on tools already.

They are trying to get rid of mirrors but they need something legally to stick out so this is the answer. Mirrors cause a lot of drag. We probably won't have them anymore in a few years. I really mean that. Just a few more years I think they'll stop making them on a lot of cars.

Nice if not totally a gadget. I do see a nice field of view and good blind spot control for people with stiff necks but still...the Audi electric pencil.

But then 1 it adds more weight and 2 energy lost from battery
