    I got one of these on ebay perhaps 25 years ago, just because it was pretty. ...I never knew how to tune it, so thanks!!

    Brilliant Beau! I have loved these for years but know little about them. Thank you for posting this 🙂

    Beau, Found: n-Track Studio in Microsoft store and nothing close in Apple store. Is n-Track Studio the one you are using?? Your videos are the BEST!! Chuck Salkewicz Weeki Wachee, FL

      Thanks 😊 It’s just “N-Track Tuner” in the App Store (it’s free). Maybe is only for iOS? Any tuner will work - I like this one just cuz it shows the Hertz and Cents which I use for intonation :)

    So tuned very much like an Oud - showing the Moorish influence on Spain perhaps.
    Like how the Phrygian scale is essentially the maqam Hijaz

      That makes sense. I should read up on instrument tuning migrating across the world. I love these instruments!

    That´s a good looking bajo quinto somewhat plainer in design than most. Did you recognize the back and side wood, I didn´t get a good look at it?

    • @BeauHannamGuitars
      @BeauHannamGuitars  Год назад

      Hi- I can’t remember what the back n sides were but I did another longer video about installing a pickup in this and when I see the footage I will be about to tell (and the brand of it which I also can’t remember!)

      I saw the H. Jimenez name at the end of the fretboard and it turns out that he has a website. It looks like the model that you have is called El Patrón and it´s described as being spruce and mahogany. Thanks for showing the tuning.@@BeauHannamGuitars

    Hi Beau, do you have any recommendations on finding decent machine heads for bajo quinto/charango? I'm struggling to find any that are not cheap Chinese rubbish.

    • @BeauHannamGuitars
      @BeauHannamGuitars  Год назад

      Hi. I’ve never bought Bajo Quinto tuners. I just had a quick look and the only ones I saw looked on the cheap end. You could use individual tuners too instead of 5 on a plate

    Have you calc'ed the total tension that holds. Must be a tank! And who's the maker of this one? I just came across a similar instrument in the basement of a shop in Omaha and didn't know what it was.

    • @BeauHannamGuitars
      @BeauHannamGuitars  Год назад

      I forget what brand it is but I recorded another video with this (I think I glued the bridge on??) and I talk about it in that video which I will edit one day. I have the tension written down someone but can’t remember- you can look up the strings and add up the tensions.

    Wait til you try to tune a Mexican jarano. Eight strings in 5 courses. Center three courses are pairs, outer ones are single strings. Tunings are regional and last count has about 83 variations. Fun time trying to figure out string diameters, then choose a tuning. ;-)

      I’m a slow learner, but finally did learn to make an audio clip of the tuning when I’m handed one of these many Latin American instruments.

    bajo quinto is an invention of Mexicans already the name is BAJO means base.. and a convination with a guitar .. in order to be play along with an acordeon in a norteño Song... and you can still hire a band of three or two mexicans guys to play a "FARA FARA"...at your party in a very afforable price. specially in Monterrey Mexico

      @@BeauHannamGuitars I'd imagine that if you had installed a pickup & plugged the instrument into the tuner, that would've helped. Most Bajo Quintos & Bajo Sextos have magnetic pickups that sit below the strings inside the sound hole.
