      There's a fullness that an octave string adds that you don't get with a single string. It's the reason many renaissance instruments like lute and baroque guitar featured double strings.

    Keith mostly plays an open G tuning: G-D-G-B-D (low to high).
    This is identical to the tuning of a Bass-Waldzither like the one I play.
    You could certainly easily use the Bajo Quinto with special strings in this tuning and I think that's what Keith had in mind.

    So on a Bajo Quinto it's actually the same as the bottom 5 Strings of a 7 String Guitar (or the bottom 5 pairs of strings on a 14 String Guitar) tuned down a Step. On a Bajo Requinto (14 Strings, 2 Octave pairs, 5 Unison pairs, all pairs are wound except the High D cause the High A Strings are wound 17s) it adds two more pairs of Strings tuned to A and high D making it super useful. The 16 String version adds on a Low E pair tuned in Octaves.

    • @oblivion_born7365
      @oblivion_born7365 4 года назад +3

      Well, over time the bajo sexto became the bajo quinto because of the lack of use of the sixth pair of stings, people used to remove the sixth entirely. I prefer a bajo quinto because there is less tension on the quinto, so it makes the strings slightly better to play. Majority, if not all, of songs can be played on a sexto can be played quinto. There is no reason to get a bajo sexto since you are most likely to not use the sixth string often, but again, its all in your preference.

      When Norteno/Tejano Comjunto music was first emerging it was usually a duet one playing accordion one playing the bajosexto. One would do lead vocals and one would harmonize or do what is called segunda or second voice. Electric basses were in their infancy . The stand up bass (Tololoche) in Spanish was added making it a trio. Drums and the electric bass came next. With the electric bass you do not need to do the boom chuckof the 6th string although some players still do. Here is a you tube link to one of the pioneer groups of Norteno/Conjunto Music. In Northern Mexico it is called Norteno in Texas it is called Conjunto. Same instruments slightly different flavor . ruclips.net/video/HMARU1njTSQ/видео.html.
