Exactly. How in moments of total devastation (caused by _him_ most of the time), he appears to...not care at all. How he believes all the crimes he committed, all the grief he caused, was alright, because it was for his country.
[RUIN AND RISING SPOILERS] I think that the Darkling killed Ana Kuya because she was "the closest thing Alina had to a mother" Because his own mother yeeted herself off like a cliff or something recently, and we wanted, he needed Aline to feel how he felt.
I don't remember but I think Bahgra was on Nikolais ship and the darkling found them AND THEN she yeeted herself off. At least I think I dont remember.
This was one my favorite scenes in the entire series, you can feel Alinas horror and the sheer emotion in the scene is overpowering. I don't think I could've torn my eyes from the page is someone paid me. So... I am so glad that you made this and especially how calm and collect you made the Darkling. Good Job, I applaud you.

YO THIS IS SO GOOD! I have not even finished King if scars, let alone read a book of the grisha trilogy, but seeing this makes me understand why people find this ship toxic. This is just so disturbing and that last line is just so scary. I love the calm music, as if this is nothing to him. I have heard the darkling was described as like a teen boy, so I like your designs on both of them, from what I have heard and seen, they feel more accurate to the book. I am not sure if I will really read all the grisha books, but I am glad there are people like you who put in so much work to not only feed the fans but people who may not have the heart to read the series itself! Great job! Looking forward to your future stuff, even if it is original character content!

SERIOUSLY? this is just more proof that pretty privilege 100% exists. also mal does not deserve all of the hate he gets. he hardly did anything wrong. he’s not “toxic”. he just didn’t want his childhood best friend and love of his life to be corrupted by power, like the darkling himself. if alina had “chose” the darkling over mal, she would’ve become like the darkling, corrupted, power-hungry, etc… i will ALWAYS be a malina shipper. i don’t understand darklina shippers. why? he’s toxic, corrupted, power-hungry, a cold-blooded murderer who murdered innocent people, pretends to love his grisha students but the moment they turn against him he tortures and murders them or leaves them to the mercy of the nichevo’ya, a liar, manipulator, HE’S JUST HORRIBLE IN GENERAL. the only times I could feel a little sorry for the darkling was when his mother baghra died, and when we got the short story about the darkling’s childhood, and how all he wanted at the beginning was a safe place for grisha. other than that i really hate him.
