  • Technically, it's not 2022 any more. But it WAS! And this video was made in 2022. It counts. This list is 5, but I've added a couple of bonus cases. One that isn't precisely a case, and another that I don't have yet, but I want to get. Let's get going! What's your favorite notebook cover this year?
This video idea was suggested by PenMeetsInk in a Twitch Stream! Join me over on Twitch and maybe you'll get to suggest a video!

I've been writing for decades and never knew about notebook covers until I joined the fp community. It makes so much more sense why I've always preferred hardcover notebooks.
My 'ish' is my Galen Leather writing box. I've used it daily since I got it a few months ago and bring it everywhere with me.

Those writing boxes always look neat, but I just know I wouldn't use it enough. Such a fun idea, though.

My favorite of the 5: Roterfaden. Looking forward to getting my hands on the A5 in dark brown w/red band once it's back in stock. Thanks for the video!

Roterfaden is pretty awesome, and that brown/red is hot. Solid choice!

Thanks for your top 5. I only recently started using a notebook cover myself and I don’t know why I spent many years without one. I use the Aspen journal cover made by allegory goods out of Chicago and I love it!

Oh, I know of Allegory. I don't have anything from them, but I have heard good things.

I mainly use Chic Sparrow and Speckled Fawn covers, and Sojourner folios. Although now I'm seriously considering one of the Coal Creek ones in Moc. They're gorgeous! (and way less expensive than the others).

I’m using a Galen Leather Zip Portfolio, but in black. I learned early on with Kindle covers and one brown leather cover that if it’s not black I’ll get sick of it; if it is black I won’t. Know thyself, right?
In re. that Lochby cover: I gave one to my nephew as a graduation gift and have no clue whether he likes it or will use it at all. But that spine-loop/handle thing is amazing for trips to the restroom, because you can hang it up on the stall door hook. I once had a book cover like that. That hangy/carry-loop feature is just far handier than one might imagine.

You gotta go with what you like, right? Why get something in a different color if you know for sure you're going to keep coming back to black?

@@inkdependence TOTALLY. Super-embarrassing how long it took me to figure it out. Probably because I can’t say I ‘like’ black particularly-I just don’t hate it and I never get sick of it. A spendy lesson… 🤣

Love Curnow. I have a couple of their leather A5 covered, tome river paper notebooks, and a nifty pen holder from them. Part of the fun of the SF Pen show. :)

Yeah, they're really nice folks. I had a great time talking with them at SF.

B6 is probably my favorite size, I got my current cover in it- a traveler’s notebook style cover.
B6 is the perfect size for me, A5 is probably my second favorite.

First of all, thanks Mike for the content, it allows me to know what other options out there on the market without actually buying one.
Secondly, none of the mentioned appeal to me neither form nor function. The only one that slightly stands out is Lochby Field Journal. I like the combine function that allow one to fill it with Midori style refill or tuck a hardcover journal in there. However, the overall aesthetic is mediocre and the organizer pockets are not very well thought.
Lastly, I understand each to their own taste so again, thanks for providing the content, keep up the work.

Coal Creek does really good work. That cover is quality and it just keeps looking better with wear.

I enjoyed this topic and have some new covers to check out. Only vegan products for me, but there are still choices out there. I have the Lochby Field Journal and love it -- a black one for work (more professional looking) and a brown one for personal projects (more rustic looking).

Yeah, notebook covers are one of the few places I have leather in my collection. FC's NWF line is very good, and there are lots of good synthetics out there.

@@inkdependence I have the NWF 12-pen case and that material is great. It performs well and is as classy as leather. I'll have to get a notebook holder in NWF sometime.
