    Polestar is still my edc to this day. Absolutely love this knife..great comparison video!

    Not a big fan of finger choils. I prefer when the blade is sharpened right to the handle. I find the unsharpened area gets caught up frequently when cutting things. Polestar gets my vote.

    Get my Polestar in BD1N next week. Can't wait, it looks awesome in grey and the BD1N is a good development in terms of steel.....

    The Spyderco Manix 2 is my go to EDC folding knife. I might get the Polestar since it weighs one ounce lighter.

    I just wish Spyderco would redesign the pocket clips they use. I know...I know....people say this a lot.

    Nice job in the compare and contrast of these two knives. I think I might have to add the Raven 2 to my modest collection soon. Keep up the good work!

    In the UK the Manix 2 lightweight costs 50% more than the Polestar. So it would be Polestar all the way for me.

    spyderco is the best folder in my opinion too. I've carried a stainless steel spyderco endura for about 25 years now. great video man. keep up the good work.

    Thanks. Nice comparability between the three options. Same steel takes that away from the thought process so it does come back to fit, finish and function. So often the steel is the difference.

    I would recommend the Manix 2 ltw every day of the week. One brilliant design. Expensive here in the UK at over £120 sterling, but worth every penny. Even the Byrd Raven runs in at nearly £70, so not a budget knife by any means. Keep 'em coming Aaron. Happy Easter to you and the family my friend.

      5 Angels It is a terrific blade, especially for hiking/camping, but for day to day use I found it to be a real pocket hog. Polestar looks to have a real advantage vs the Tenacious wrt pocket space.

    • @5angels332
      @5angels332 7 лет назад

      Point taken...............but here in the UK we can't carry it as a pocket knife. Powers that be think we might fall and hurt ourselves !

  • @davisssamuel

    You talk a lot about edge retention, but when our edge wears off, how do we sharpen our blade? In other words, my question is: What is the best sharpening system and how do you use it? Also I've heard that flat grinds are harder to sharpen than hollow grinds or saber grinds, is that true?

    I already have the Byrd and I love it. I liked the polestar too but maybe it's time for a Manix 2 LW instead. I actually just sent my Raven 2 into Spyderco because the blade drifted into the liner and the pivot can't be tightened.

    • @OffedPez
      @OffedPez 7 лет назад

      That's actually why I don't really care for Spyderco knives. The company is just too adverse to their customers doing any actual maintenance on their blades beyond sharpening (if you're willing to sharpen without cleaning out the pivot) and stropping. It's a shame too, because otherwise, with few exceptions, their knives are some of the most competitive out there!

    • @317jmdam
      @317jmdam 7 лет назад

      Agreed. I'd like companies to start encouraging owners to take down and clean the knife and lube it properly. I've seen CRK does just that. If only I had an extra $500 for a Sebenza.

    If you're gonna go with the polestar, save up another week or so and get the manix 2 like Aaron is saying. Otherwise get the Byrd Raven 2. I bought it a long time ago on Aaron's recommendation and it's an awesome EDC knife, nice and thick, solid lock up, just a great EDC knife. Although it's not really in my rotation anymore. I would say my most carried knives are the benchmade 940, benchmade griptilian in D2 steel, spyderco delica 4, mini griptilian 555hg, endura 4 saber grind, and sometimes my cold steel American lawman in CTS-XHP. I've said it before but this is one of my favorite RUclips channels. Keep up the great work man.

    This is an excellent comparison video. (I will disagree with the jimping comparison, finding the Polestar's much more helpful than the Raven 2's, but otherwise a perfect comparison video. Poiting out the thickness difference, the washers, the finger-choil on one and not the other, and the handle G10... all key!)

  • @ScottieG59
    @ScottieG59 7 лет назад

    I hate to start of that "just pay a little more" stairway to paying too much. Personally, I prefer to work downward until I find the good value for "good enough." In that price range, there are many excellent options. I paid less for my Cold Steel Code 4 in CTS-XHP and less for my Kershaw Blur in S30V. I too am a fan of Spyderco's less costly offerings, including their Chinese produced knives. It is just tough to justify paying more for less.

    I really like the Polestar. Yes it's made in China, but that BD1 steel came from Carpenter's mill in Latrobe, PA. If it had Colden, Colorado or Taichung Taiwan stamped on it, the price would be $50 more.

    Info is so inconsistent on BD1... Some people say edge retention is the same as VG-10, and others say that it's on par with an AUS-6! Idk what to think...

    • @gideonstactical

      Rodrigo Teresa it is descent and about the same as Spyderco's VG 10, which to be honest I'm not super impressed with either better than Austin-8 but not by a lot.

      Ive owned 8 or 9 Ganzos. Still have 4. Like to give em away. Most of 'em were good out of box, the rest were fine after some tweaking. Also have a Raven 2 and and a LW Manix 2. The Raven is a step up in build quality to the ganzos. The Manix 2 is a notch (at least) above the Raven. I love Ganzos, but they don't really compare to any of these knives directly.

    • @FactFinderGeneral
      @FactFinderGeneral 7 лет назад

      The two I have are very nice, however the one has a defect and the blade touches the frame. Not a huge issue for such a cheap knife but the other is perfect. Their second generation multitool doesnt look too bad either. Raven 2 is my choice though just because of the steel and I'd agree, build quality is great. I think the opposite here, the Polestar isn't worth buying for me for $20, no finger choil, and a thinner blade. The slicing difference isn't $20 to me and I'd rather a more durable blade for this kind of thing. I'm back and forth on the Manix, having owned the Raven a while I'm not sure that it's worth spending almost double when I have so many other knives I want to purchase.

    I work in a garden center and I have meadowlark 2 and ukpk as an edc. I found the last days that the ukpk is more comfortable in the hand. There is a quality difference between them.But is a bit small. So i ordered the byrd raven 2. I like the choice of having the finger choil. Do you think is a bit big for an edc?and also can i change the teflon bushings with bronze ones if i find? Thank and greetings from Greece!

      Ike a China purchase supports Americans workers just as much as a AMERICAN made knife does,..it's American workers who ship,pack, process,ect all the China crap that comes to the state's..As a Amazon worker I can tell you me as well as thousands of Americans make our paychecks from things that are made in China..

      jim yocum I'm glad you have a job at Amazon. Wouldn't it be better for the US economy if there were people making the knives here too? More US jobs on top of current US jobs. Plus, the money from US workers is spent here too - thus creating more US jobs.
