My Lister D Engine fuel tap has been leaking. It was a new one I fitted last year and has been nothing but trouble. However, I have solved the problem!
I had one of those very same taps on my 650cc motorcycle many years ago. It didn't leak, but I had to carry a pair of pliers with me every time I went for a ride; I just couldn't turn it on or off by hand... very shoddily made!. Love the sound of that old Lister Ray; very nice 👍
@@g4nsj Thanks my friend, I'm a recent subscriber so it's nice to get a reply. I couldn't agree more; it seems the quality of most things has really gone down the pan in recent years, and yet the prices have gone in the opposite direction!. Might stop by some more of your radio-related videos later. Funny how something that's been around for over a hundred years can still fascinate. If I'd been a few years younger and was better able to commit things to memory, I wouldn't have minded giving HAM radio a try. I can still remember every letter of the phonetic alphabet from my army cadet days but oh boy, try as I might, I can't seem to learn morse. Anyway, this is Zulu Oscar Oscar Kilo, Seven Five Zero signing out. Enjoy what's left of your weekend.

It reminds me of a time I used to cut the lawn with my dad with a Suffolk Punch that was older than me by many years when I was 11. One day it just would not start at all despite lots of swearing so we jumped in the car and got a new one. When we got home I asked my Dad if I could have the old one to take to bits and tinker. Well by the end of the day, I had stripped Cleand and rebuilt it. She ran just fine for many more years. I think that was the first time I heard the term FFS ha ha haa
Hi Ray, what I have found is that there are quite a number of things that are not made as well these days. Many fittings are made at slightly different sizes that are almost invisible to the naked eye, but when connected and used they can give poor results. You went well finding that old second hand item. Anyway, take care. Rob in Melbourne Australia.
Yea Ray when our plumber was redoing our facet for the bath tub he bought a new valve cartridge at a local building supply place and it was leaky. It had plastic parts. He went to a plumbing supply whole sale and got another one that was mostly brass and it worked fine. You never know sometimes until you hook it up. Terry, WA0DTH
Nice engine Ray love that sound and great to see Gary putting in an appearance too
Hi John, Gary always has to join in!
Nice sound. Your tortoise is great.
Thanks!

Great to hear from you. The new taps are rubbish. There's nothing better than genuine old parts. Cheers, Ray.

You’ve made a great job of that Lister D, Ray. Sounds lovely, too. Tortoise has taste!
Thanks, I really enjoyed restoring the engine.

You're right, Rob. Things just don't fit or do the job these days.

Hi Terry, that's the trouble. You never know until you hook it up!
Ohh lovely Ray.. Gonna buy myself an old hit and miss engine..
I like the hit and miss engines.
Hi Ray your tortoise walks faster than me now lol David GM4GLG
I know the feeling!
Love that Lister D!
Thanks!
I didn’t know you had a lister, I always use 2nd hand parts if I can
Second hand parts are best.
@@g4nsj always mate. New quality ones are far too much money and cheaper ones are rubbish lol
Had to get rid of my Tortoise Ray.
Kept following me around the garden.
Yes, ours follows us around 🤣
Great Tortoise!
Beauty.
Thanks!
hi Ray engine sounds fantastic,,,,,,,,,,😍
Thanks!
The engine sounds a bit smoother. Have you done anything else to it recently?
Hi Mike, all I’ve done is adjust the mixture. It is running smoother now.
The tap most likely came from idea. They make the engines still out there. They are generally referred to as "Listeroid" engines.
OK, thanks for the info.
India! Not idea
@@nigehomer9744 I actually read it as India! 🤣
👍
Just like old valves versus modern Chinese copies... 🙄
Indeed!
