- We install a eco battery 48 volt 72 amp hour golf cart battery conversion kit into a club car ds. What a Difference. Cart gained 3 mph with factory motor and controller. This eco lithium battery really woke the cart up. Take off and power thought the drive is impressive! We love these batteries so we thought we would give you a little install video on the conversion.
These kits are available at our website!

This is a complete conversion kit to upgrade your golf cart today contract us to find out more about eco battery products as we are a certified dealer. bmcgolfcarts@gmail.com
We start by taking the old batteries out. You will not need the wires that connect each battery. You will only use the main negative and positive battery cables for this install. The battery hold down brackets you can toss to the side as well. Remove all batteries. Take out old charging port and replace with new style extension cord charger if you wish to do so. ( you do not have to do this but makes for a clean install.) Now place the battery into the cart. Next we will run our gauge to the dash. There are some tips for mounting the battery gauge in the video. 48v to 12v reducer. Yellow is Main power. Black wire with eyelid is main ground.
Red and black wires go to 12v wiring. Connect all positive and negative wires (battery charger, 48v to 12v reducer, and main power wires to cart). Before reinstalling everything check to make sure the cart runs and accessories turn on. If all is good reinstall everything.
Any question on this install please comment and we will respond to help you the best we can. Also if you are looking for these batteries we sell and ship nation wide.

With those connectors with the unsealed backs, you can fill them up with dialectic grease it’ll keep the water out
Not to bad of an install thanks
Great job team!
Glad you liked it!
From a range perspective that 72AH should be similar to a conventional 48V pack discharging to 50%
Yes i would say that is accurate.
So I get the principle of the bypass of the OBC, but on my 2001, I have a 3 prong connector coming from my OBC, with yellow, red and brown wire, but no blue and white wire. I've scoured the internet looking for a how to bypass this type of OBC plug, to no avail. Please help!!
You have a series cart. For the Series carts You just have to disconnect the Yellow wire from the OBC and run it directly from Solenoid to controller B- (or other negative source like pack negative).
Now you have room for Subwoofers on each side
Good idea! Do you have any recommendations on a sub that is weather proof?
@Cart Performance addictive audio. They put a coating on them that makes them weather proof. We ran them in several of our boats. They even male 6x9 subwoofers! The speakers have awesome sound!
How long will this 72amp battery last on a single charge? Should you power off the battery (through battery on/off button) when finished riding cart?
1998-99 club car DS 48-volt lithium conversion - What wiring must remain, such as the Wiper Switch Assembly, . . removed onboard computer, right? but that is a little confusing when some vital components are needed.. . . etc? so what would regulate voltage for speed?
How many Ah is the gen 2 I couldn't see? whats this install cost? Thanks for the video guys!
Amp hours are still the same in the gen 2 battery. 72ah, 105ah, 144ah, 210ah. Install cost depends on cart. Thanks for watching!
Wonder if the additional mph due to the decreased weight and added acceleration due to full charged power unit?
With the same controller we gained 3MPH! Also got there much faster. You sir are correct! The swap saves about 300lbs/150kg Kit is available in description!
I think the extra speed is due to the LIPO battery holding a higher voltage under load.
Did you actually get this cart running after you removed the OBC? If so, how?
I agree with you. Converted my to lithium and could not delete on board computer. If I turn the battery off and then on, I have to touch the gray wire to the positive post for a few seconds. The battery light comes on and goes off when you remove it. Now my golf cart works. Nobody properly shows how to delete it. I tried this version of unplugging the OBC (without removing it) and my cart would not move. Plugged the OBC back in and touched gray wire to positive post (with key off) and it works. Thinking about installing a switch or push button for the Grey wire to positive post. I tried hooking up the gray wire to positive post, didn't work. Only needs a few seconds of voltage to reset OBC.
Can you re-purpose the original 12 volt converter ?
yes you can.
Can I leave the OBC in place and not do the bypass? Will it still charge and run properly?
yes you can. Yes is will.
Do you think the 75 amp hour would be a good choice with upgraded motor and controller on a DS series?
No. We suggest you use a 105 amp hr.
Hi! I dig those headlights do you perhaps have a link?
They are some of the best looking lights for ds! Here is link for them. cartperformanceparts.com/product/nokins-deluxe-plus-led-light-kit-fit-club-car-ds-1993-up-gas-and-electric-golf-cart/
I have one blue wire coming from the front which I am guessing is the key switch. Does this just go to the positive on the converter? I am using a fuse panel so what size fuse should I put for that one? As well should I use a 20amp fuse for the headlights?
Yes the blue wire is most likely key switch power. You hook the convertor key switch wire to the blue wire. 20 amp fuse will be plenty. The convertor is already fused at the 48 and 12 volt power source.
How do you bypass the obc?
For real man...No one seems to really touch on this for the DS. Some say just jump the blue and white, but I've heard that's only on Precedent models. Or, you need to run the yellow to the negative terminal. Ridiculous, that Eco Battery(my brand) and others don't address this and risk destroying a 2k battery. None of the videos seem to really address the DS for this either. Only the Precedent. Let me know if you found a work around. Just got mine. Thanks!
I understand the main ground wire that runs thru the OBC needs to be cut and put in the negative. But what do I with the other black wire. Also do I connect the blue and white wire together?
Unless you have a obc bypass. You do not remove the obc. You can cut the main negative to gain more length if needed. We found out most of the club ds's will not run when you removed the obc completely unless you have a obc bypass. The harness still needs to be connected on the obc for the cart to function properly.
@@CartPerformance So, how do you bypass the OBC on a DS? Just jump the blue and white? I've seen that's only on the Precedent and that the DS you need to run the yellow to the negative terminal...although that method seems to only be when you're keeping the CC charging port. I'm using an Eco Battery with the OB charger, reducer and 51v 72ah.
Can I just jump the blue and white on this model? 03, I believe with the black Sepex motor.
@@jasoncrawford1513 Hey Jason, did you figure it out? Im in the same boat as you.
@@leonelm.hormaza8576 I'm also having this problem. I removed my OCB completely, did the blue/white bypass with a jumper, I hear the "click" but I'm getting no movement from the cart. Solenoid test was good.
@@intranzsinger I reinstalled the OBC, luckily didn't cut too many wires to remove it. I followed another video by Fenertainment or Fentertainment here on YT. He did not bypass the OBC. My cart moves now. Haven't done a test drive as I'm still working on the restoration. But it moved back and forth in the garage.
Where can I get the obvious bypass?

We can send you one.
