Video 96 of me liking and then commenting on every new upload to tell the viewers that the Man Alone Podcast is absolutely some of that sweet, unhinged audio/vocal-honey. Psssst. Comment something you know about that almost nobody else does. Enlighten the other commenters and share some wisdom (or lack thereof…)
This is a very interesting question, because at first I was taking it as a sort of interesting fact but you were talking about like a whole topic that one knows about that others generally do not…that I have to think about… and I sense that having to think about it…means I don't know anything that fits the bill
@amanisalone it’s that thing that you tell people, “google it” or “you’re just going to have to look this up” lol. Within this new and current generation it can be as simple as things that have just been forgotten. The Stanford Prison Experiment, MK Ultra, etc.
Hey Manalone! Call of Cthulhu has a mechanic for an “idea roll” that could be used when you know about something that the players aren’t thinking about, but they would know in-character. You could use that mechanic when you bump into the “if a player asks about X, tell them Y” scenarios. You’d just have to adjudicate a target number for the roll based on how that system works. I don’t have the book in front of me but wanted to weigh in before I forgot 😅
You can get the Advanced OSE stuff without double dipping the Basic OSE. You want the mini Advanced OSE books or the OSE boxed set with the little books that has just the Advanced classes & stuff.
There are some great Megadungeons, apart from the ones you mentioned. Some great ones are Castle Xyntillan, Stonehell and The Halls of Arden Vul. Other than that, you could try The Vast in the Dark which has some very cool dungeon delving.
I was already looking forward to Alien, but learning that Sean and Matt will be creating a solo mode just makes it close to a must-buy for me. But what I *really* want (in virtually any game) is a set of rules that allows for solo play with a team of supporting characters.
Another Megadungeon recommendation if you want a more floor based dungeon rather than an overall theme; 'Rappan Athuk'. I don't know if it has an OSE/R Version though. Also Dyson Logos 'The Dyson MegaDelve'.
I’m really hoping we get another Forbidden Lands book this year with more awesome solo stuff. Book of Beasts and the extended solo expansion on dtrpg were an awesome start.
Man that would be incredible just look at the reforged power supplement which was Community made, how many things that supplement refined. There's lots of places they could punch up forbidden lands and make it at least a contender to the throne
Can't wait for OGA and VLG. From what I've gathered on his Discord, it's going to be much more streamlined and thought out than UVG 2e, and just the artwork makes my brain squeeeeek. Edit: I guess one needs to lean into some weird shit like Mieville to enjoy it and not be taxed by interacting with the imagery.
Came to hear you gush about Beyond the Skies…will sit back and wait for your review. There is a good structure to using it. Just need to read it front to back. It is just more into the odd vein. Also it was written as one book then broken up into zines all by one person. Then brought back together for a hardcover run.
Of course, 2d6 Dungeon is effectively a megadungeon that is procedurally generated. A consideration there is to what extent you want it to be a scripted megadungeon by design versus one that unfolds randomly as you go.
Do you use minis for solo play or is that for group play? I’m finding that the more I solo, the less minis and terrain I use but I do have a ton of stuff I’d like to get more use out of. Alien & Solitary Plunder looks awesome. You made it big time!
You are very bad for my wallet man, keep up the awesome stuff. Just wish this stuff was easier to get in Canada without paying an arm and a leg in shipping.
I’m still enjoying my solo DCC play through of Dyson’s Delve, the “mini megadungeon”. Although I’m trying to find shortcuts to speed up editing the videos for RUclips as I started it last spring and I’m still only on floor 2 of 12!
Also, a roguelike in videogames is where you lose everything when you die and completely start again (usually in a procedurally generated world), and a roguelite is where you get to keep some progress after you die, like character abilities or unlocked areas etc.
Manalone, do you have a video about “what makes a good solo system for an rpg?” I own a few but none of them have really worked for me. I’m curious what you look for in a solo supplement.
Do you mean what makes an RPG good to be converted into solo? Or what is a good system to use on your non-solo RPG in order to convert it to solo play? Gosh I feel like the two sentences I just wrote fail to make the point I'm trying to make and only work if you hear me giving different words different emphasis

You’re never alone with Man Alone.
Arrrrr, I be wanting Solitary Plunder!

Ker Nethalas is solo mega dungeon, no?

Exciting! I’m looking forward to your coverage of Knave 2e!

We are and always have been, just half a step away from just watching Man Alone shop.

Solitary Plunder is a must have for me.
@40:39 - That's Awesome! ahah
@Man Alone seals were made to be broken
Thank you!
Bro really uploaded this after I went on the OSR Subreddit to ask for even more resources not presented here and spent 80 dollars. 😭
I work for the department of spending, I am their most decorated agent, they call me 007.99

I've given Free League 200ish in the last few months...yet Malone's out here leaning into the coming recession. I fear we're truly cooked.
ChatGBT has really become quite advanced, it’s doing RUclips videos now!

There's "Through the Breach", but it's not a solo game either if I recall correctly.
Not agaiiiiiiin!!!!! Do you work for the bank?
I don't work "for" the bank but I do work "with" them
I wonder if Amateur Exonaturalist could be combined with Solo Hostile or even Stars Without Number... worth checking out.
I was interested in Between the Skies but it priced me out.
