  • Evening drive in San Francisco. From Golden Gate National Recreation Area, across the Golden Gate Bridge, through downtown, and ending in Oakland. Last video or two from the US West Coast. Asia is reopening so I should be in Asia soon. Will have my camera. Hope everyone is doing well and writing down their goals for 2022!
    Starting Point: goo.gl/maps/2tiC8WzZu2KEBypA6 .
A popular tourist destination, San Francisco is known for its cool summers, fog, steep rolling hills, eclectic mix of architecture, and landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, the former Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary, Fisherman's Wharf, and its Chinatown district. San Francisco is also the headquarters of companies such as Wells Fargo, Twitter, Square, Airbnb, Levi Strauss & Co., Gap Inc., Salesforce, Dropbox, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Uber, and Lyft. The city, and the surrounding Bay Area, is a global center of the sciences and arts and is home to a number of educational and cultural institutions, such as the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), the University of San Francisco (USF), San Francisco State University (SFSU), the de Young Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the SFJAZZ Center, the San Francisco Symphony and the California Academy of Sciences.
San Francisco is a cultural, commercial, and financial center in the U.S. state of California. Located in Northern California, San Francisco is the 17th most populous city in the United States, and the fourth most populous in California, with 873,965 residents as of 2020. It covers an area of about 46.9 square miles (121 square kilometers), mostly at the north end of the San Francisco Peninsula in the San Francisco Bay Area, making it the second most densely populated large U.S. city, and the fifth most densely populated U.S. county, behind only four of the five New York City boroughs. San Francisco is the 12th-largest metropolitan statistical area in the United States with 4.7 million residents, and the fourth-largest by economic output, with a GDP of $592 billion in 2019. With San Jose, California, it forms the San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland, CA Combined Statistical Area, the fifth most populous combined statistical area in the United States, with 9.6 million residents as of 2019. Colloquial nicknames for San Francisco include SF, San Fran, The City, and Frisco.

my favorite city...Im 54 yrs old, and Ive been blessed, to have traveled all over the World, both in the military and as a civilian. And SF has a place in my heart, that no other place has. Ive been to Rome/Vatican City, Berlin, the Netherlands, Japan, Egypt and Portugal, just to name a few places. But I also have a history in the Bay Area that started when I was stationed there in the late 80s, right on thru all of the 90s..and beyond, when I was discharged. And when you're hanging out at the various viewpoints above Kirby Cove, looking across the bay, at the city...if that beauty doesnt inspite you, I dont know what to tell you.

Im born and raised in SF, lived all over the world but I moved back because it just aint the same. Theres a type of .. atmosphere of SF you dont get in other places. Just standing atop a hill to stare out into alcatraz and going to eat some italian food at north beach, cross over to chinatown to get some things you want to try and then head downtown to see the christmas tree and then ride the bus home all the way to the beach as the sun sets with people coasting by on skateboards. Doesnt get better than that (of course we have our problems too but I will take that as a trade off.)

San Francisco is like heaven on earth. The city just needs a better justice system.. and better programs for the mentally ill and that will help for sure! But if you can’t afford to live in San Francisco.. move out there are other places to inhabit. Don’t be homeless and suffering there cause the city cannot provide all housing because the land is too scarce! We can’t just ruin San Francisco with mega tall buildings all around. Imagine an earthquake? Where will you want to go and hide where all there are is tall buildings all around.

    • @justsobru

@@jayyan4148 yeah.. that can be solved by ticketing everyone that is homeless and it’s causing trouble. I mean, I’m all for helping them get back on their feet.. (cause there are jobs everywhere) and I highly believe that there has to be mental hospitals to help them with great talented people too that will help them. but if you can’t afford that city, just move! The U.S. is huge enough to house everyone in a cheap town somewhere.. look at IOWA.. houses and rents are very cheap there.. and also parts of P.A. And the country side. Very beautiful places too!

@@sparrowhawk5673 you might be right, but I can tell you that many people prefer urban areas like San Francisco to rural areas for a variety of reasons. Some of these reasons include:
Convenience: Cities like San Francisco offer many conveniences and amenities that are difficult to find in rural areas, such as a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and cultural institutions.
Job Opportunities: Major cities like San Francisco are often home to a large number of job opportunities in a variety of industries, making it an attractive option for those looking to start or advance their careers.
Diversity: Cities are typically more diverse than rural areas, both in terms of the people who live there and the things to see and do. This can be appealing to people who enjoy a mix of cultures and experiences.
Excitement: For some people, the fast-paced energy and excitement of city life is preferable to the slower pace of rural life.
That being said, rural areas also have their own unique attractions, such as open spaces, scenic beauty, and a stronger sense of community. Ultimately, the choice between city and rural living is a personal one that depends on an individual's priorities and preferences.

San Francisco is a GREAT city and the people, places to play and businesses are what makes it so. Don't let the sad stories of its demise keep you away. There is a lot of room for places to go, people to see and businesses to support without slogging through some of the negatives. Keep a positive view. I do!

Thanks for the info. I have a VERY NEGATIVE view of SF mainly due to the media talking about the drug addicts and homeless encampments. As in most cities, there are homeless people and drug addicts who are also homeless. It's usually in a very specific part of the city. But this perception actually goes back to the 90s--when I first heard about it. Anyway, this video will no doubt be enlightening. I've only been to SF once, back in 2011, and it was pretty cool. Would like to go back. Take care.

Didn't see anyone that had any obvious signs of drug addiction. I'm sure there were plenty of homeless people and drug addicts somewhere in the city, but I didn't run across them. It's a cool place. Golden Gate Park and Muir Woods were my two favorite places to hang out, especially the Japanese Tea Garden and the Queen Wilhemina tulip garden by the windmill. Chinatown was cool.
