On May 7, 2018, Maurane was found dead at her home in Schaerbeek (Brussels, Belgium). The next day, the Brussels public prosecutor confirmed the opening of a judicial investigation, although the singer's death "is not considered suspicious due to the intervention of a third party25". On June 15, 2018, a month later, the prosecution closed the case without further action “for lack of offense. No third party intervention was noted. The death was of accidental cause26", de facto excluding suicide and the hypothesis of a natural death. The autopsy concluded that it was a death due to internal bleeding, a possible consequence of a heavy fall in his bathtub following consumption of medication(s)26 and the prosecution states that “no further comments or details will be communicated”27. On July 15, Maurane's daughter succinctly explained to the newspaper Le Parisien that her mother had a fall and that she did not want to say more.
