This mini-monster from the album " Make a Jazz Noise Here" consists of the main theme followed by a low-key, mainly synclavier-oriented improvisation. For the official release, Frank put together several performances ( 1988) including a rehearsal - to complete the head, and then used improvisation sections from various "Pound for a Browns" to help complete the extended jam!!!!
The group is exceptional!

I'm glad for this request. This entire album is incredible. And this incarnation of Frank's band was one of his best ever. Straight fire. Bobby Martin on the high lyrics, and Chad Wackerman on drums. Oh and Zappa and Beefheart were high school chums.
aw, rory...lol... sooo much could be explained about this song, but it would be twenty paragraphs long, soooo I'll explain a COUPLE of things.
1. The sillicone vibes that Ed Mann has as part of his percussion are hooked up to Frank's Snyclavier (88 is the only time Frank took it out on the road.)
So what you hear hear is a combination of Simmons drums mixed with real drums, both played live by Chad Wackerman.
Snyclavier filtered percussion and real percussion, both played by Ed Mann, but sometimes triggered by Frank.
And Frank, improvising on the computer... live, with the 88 band occasionally improvising or playing some small written peice (horns) and Bobby Martin ad libbing over Franks random use of senator's voices from the P.M.R.C hearings
2. This type of improvisation would occur during one of two songs if I remember correctly.
Big Swifty, and A Pound for A Brown on this Bus, which I think is the case here.
At any rate, it's time you watch some of the 88 band live. There's tons of bootleg stuff.
Barcelona 88 is the one that has a version of this stuff in Big Swifty... but different.
A life long Zappa fan here. You mentioned that you may have done 150 Zappa reactions. I've seen a lot of them. You seem to appreciate his creativity, his sense of humor, his guitar playing etc. They are not all easy listens. Most Zappa fans are diehard fanatics but also most have their favorite Zappa bands or periods. You've taken on most of them. I appreciate your efforts and perspectives in this platform which presents the possibility of keeping his music alive. Yes, he's self indulgent, his sexual humor can be juvenile and his social commentary is dated, but there's music there that can be appreciated forever. Like you said, there will never be another Zappa. Thanks.

Hi Rory, I like your reaction videos, I don’t watch the others because you can see that they know absolutely nothing about music, and I must say, from my experience as a musician and guitarist, frank was my favorite guitarist of all time, also from my experiences of attending so many of his live performances, yes, my first show was 1976 New York, so you know the “ in New York “ material, I was there, 1977 “ baby snakes tour, I was there, 1980, 81, and 84, I was there, 1988 New York, I was there, and in my opinion the 88 material was my least favorite, I was at the felt forum in nyc for the late show on Halloween night, and man, frank and the band kicked ass the entire show, one moment of that remains with me permanently, during sharleena, frank played the guitar solo center stage front, and I was in 4th row center, frank wasn’t even looking at his guitar, was like staring into space, the solo was fire, but there was one moment when frank played something so awesome, and to me, something that was impossible, except for frank of course, my mind could not wrap around it, so I went home after the show and went to bed, the following day I picked up my guitar and tried playing, I ended up smashing my guitar ( literally) , I gave up guitar for a year and then I got another guitar and started playing again, however, I never again attempted to copy anything that Frank Zappa played, he is untouchable, I attended school of improvisation for 4 years and did style studies of just about every guitarist in existence, but not frank, dweezil is great and I support him, but he is not frank, I don’t know where I’m going with this story but I will end it here with an apology for the length of it, and a thank you for your videos, peace
The excerpt with that politician speaking was from the Congressional hearings on labeling albums that might have dirty words in them. The only reason that it's got to Congress was because Al Gore's wife Tipper was a member of the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), the group that was lobbying for labeling albums.
Lots more of that on the album "the mothers of prevention" .
I was hearing bits and pieces of Lumpy Gravy, Uncle Meat, Absolutely Free, Freak Out, mixed in with a slew of new stuff.
Yuppies=Young Urban Professionals. Considered a very "buttoned-down" group, who would probably hate the disorder and dissonance in Zappa's musical hell. I loved your reference to this being either a "Lewis Carroll" or "Salvador Dali" musical creation!

This is the 88 band, no George or Bozzio since the 70's.
Chad Wackerman drums, most of the keys here is Zappa himself on the synclaiver, bass is Scott Thunes, truly an amazing player.
Someone should've told Rory (cough)...that the first major solo is a trumpet, not a saxophone (in fact, Walt Fowler).
And someone should have asked why he didn't let it run on into the Fire & Chains guitar solo

When Rory or anyone else is doing a reaction, it comes from a patreon. Rory wouldn't know that it segues right into the next track as a "suite", as many of Zappa's music does.
Don't ride Rory for merely reacting to one track as submitted for his consideration.
Chad Wackerman the drummer on Drum Channel said that Frank would program his digital drum pads to make certain sounds on the fly, and Chad would not know what the sound would be until he hit the drums. Frank loved playing games with Chad. Chad said you had to think quick to hit the right drums properly to make sense with the sound they would make. The synclavier was played by Frank, but also could be triggered by Mike Keneally, one of the guitarists, and Ed Mann, the percussionist. The burping sounds were of Dr. Dot his massage therapist who could do outrageous burps after drinking coca cola. He sampled them, then put them out through the Synclavier.
Rory, this was the first time for me hearing this bunch from Zappa also, but I've been a Zappa fan since I was 15, in 1975. The smile and joy on your face, I have to say, I smiled through the whole shot because I was enjoying along side of you!!

Dweezil and Ahmet provided Franks music for the score of the syndicated cartoon' Darkwing Duck'.
Some musicians in this tour were actually on the Frsak Out album.
Some of my favorite Frank since Bozzio era.😉. At the end of this song comes one of franks most vicious,cleanest, chaotic brutal guitar leads he ever recorded.

A yuppy is a guppy. Then theres a gup pup. Yes it is a modern, at the time. In our neighborhood it was more defined as a pencil neck geek listening to foreigner, journey, and the likes. Instead of Black Sabbath n Jethro Tull, Floyd, the dead, the doors, Zappa, Deep Purple, etc.
Then , they became nerds and got into Inxs, and weird wavy space hairdos and gay clothes. Then, it became hammer time. And yes, these poor lost souls were actually listening to run d.m.c. and wearing parachute pants and weird hairdos. Yuup. Hammertime. More guppys. Lost to the world. Unable to identify themselves as who they were. Heck half of em could have been Steve Vai or Adrian Belew fans and never would have known it. My conversation at the time with my close friends started with this." THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD"!!!! LOWL!
