Evil powerless people get on a hoa board and pretend they are the abusive landloard , by using lies and false pretenses to "enforce rules" brought on by stories of FAKE FEEDBACK from others , its usually 1 sociopath and a few others just going along with it . And as always someone with their hand in the cookie jar . Its a field day for evil people . The only ones that work are side by side " no fee condos " the only shared bill is the structural insurance . My friends condo paid $100k to a relative of a board member for "chimney work" , of 100 units only 2 got new chimney caps , basically paid to put scaffold up and take it down = tripled the condo fees from that

My cousin owns two houses right next to each other out in the country. They built a subdivision across the street from her property. The subdivision had an HOA. The HOA showed up at her house one day to make demands because she was in the process of painting her houses in colors they didn't like. They also didn't like her gravel driveway. She told them that she wasn't a member of their HOA and that they needed to get off of her property. The guy left and came back the next week to ambush her 12 year old daughter as she was getting off of the school bus. My cousin looked out of the window and saw this asshat yelling at her daughter. She went out and stuck a 12 gauge pump shotgun right in his face. She told him that if he ever came on her property again or spoke to her children she would blow his head off. She then went to the county attorney and obtained a restraining order against the HOA of which she wasn't part of. Since then she had deliberately changed the colors of her house to colors that she knows will piss these Nazi's off. The guy drives past her house real slow everytime he drives by and she always sits out on her porch with a gun everyday when she knows he is coming home from work. I love her. These HOA ass hats seem to think they can dictate to anyone who lives near by even when those who live near by are not part of their commie HOA.

Funniest "F U" to an HOA I ever saw was the largest house in gated mega buck FL golf community. Got into legal spat with HOA, so they had lawyers find a loophole in community code, which in their case, was not specifying SHADES of pink allowed on home exteriors. SO, these rich folks painted their massive home compound PEPTO BISMO PINK! You could not miss that house from almost anywhere on the famous golf course, and the HOA lost their minds but the owners (cool surgeons w/swim up pool bar) loved the payback.

Only the heiress to king William I, Elizabeth Mountbatten, has allodial possession of Britain. The governments of the United States of America inherited allodium from the British Crown.

I live in one. Moved in November 2019. So far it's great, fees are minimal, they provide a playground and maintain it for all the kids in here. They're considering adding a dog park in the back and speaking to the city about proper lighting in certain areas. They are great if properly governed by responsible people. But there lies the issue, people have to vote the board members in. If people don't care enough to show up to the meetings and vote, the same terrible people will continue to run it unopposed. I would say urge your neighbors to vote for better people or volunteer to run yourself. But there lies another issue. WHO HAS TIME? The amount of work required in addition to your job, life, and family is almost too much. My next door neighbor is the new president that took over in March 2020. He spends countless hours reviewing the bylaws and talking with local attorneys about what the heck some of the verbiage means. What can be done legally and what cannot be done, etc. HOA's are a load of work but have plenty of benefits. Just like ALL things in life all it takes is a couple of people to make things terrible for the rest. VOTE!

All HOAs need to be dissolved, it is a BS way to make millions for almost no work. Think about it, let’s say there is no gate, just need landscaping in public areas, so let’s say 2,000/per month.... meanwhile, fifty houses (small for most HOAs), each paying $200 per month.... that is a free income of $10000 per month. Meanwhile the board members almost never get paid, it is a prestige job for narcissistic Karens.... all the money goes to the corporation which does nothing but send a minimum wage office employee to one or two of the board meetings each year.....

In my town of roughly 3,300 residents (median household income of $50-60k), we had a very wealthy retired NBA player looking at a brand-spankin'-new $1.6M house in a snooty subdivision. I won't say his name, but I WILL say it rhymes with "Jichael Mordan." The subdivision he was looking at had a few HOA requirements: garage door must be kept closed except when a vehicle is actually going in or out. All lawns must be mowed to the same height, and everybody needs to mow their lawns the same weekend for consistent grass length. There must be nothing at all to indicate property lines (fences, hedges, flowers, all banned). A very lengthy list of banned Christmas decoration types (no inflatables, for example, or anything the Aristocracy might perceive as "tacky"). Mr. Mordan wanted to erect an 8-foot-high wrought iron fence around the property for security reasons, a fence that would not even effect the sliver of Long Island Sound visible from an adjacent property. HOA said, emphatically, NO.
Then, Mr. Mordan offered to make a $1M contribution to our K-8 school system.
    The HOA still said no.
So Mr. Mordan chose to buy a house elsewhere. Our town lost a celebrity, a massive amount of school funding, and the house was on the market for three more years.

What's worse is that as an HOA, their rules are enforceable by contractual law and they can file suit for failure to comply essentially binding you to a home you no longer want due to the aggravation until you pay the ridiculous fines. I can't tolerate what you're dealing with. Good luck

As @Chris Massey said - it is indeed a federal crime and a postal inspector would LOVE to hear about it. Trust me, as an ex postal worker, the Postal Inspection Service would absolutely love to hear from him. While regular employees honestly don't give a shit unless they are union reps. Every PIS agent I've run across is as gungho about the job as a rookie FBI agent waiting for their break through case. The case that will make them somebody. So a nice tip to a postal inspector can do wonders. Trust me, they are the definition of "waiting for a break." Most of the time they twiddle their thumbs. So you mention any violation of federal mail service laws, and they'll jump at the opportunity to investigate. Almost like Sherlock Holmes and a new murder mystery to solve.
But maybe it's just my region's agents. (Which there are two IIRC) But every time I talked to them, when I worked for USPS, they were itching for a problem to solve. And they didn't care how minuscule it was. I routinely had talks with them because two of my offices were under investigation. (Now I just shot the shit with them. But as I said, they were itching for evidence.)

Does make me wonder how the legalities work with even have a private post office handle your mail.
I was under the impression that it is a requirement that the USPS deliver mail to the person/address named on the item or to a secure post box bearing that addresses name. No third party may interfere with the post at any point.
So by delivering that mail to a private post office, each address should have a secure post box at the office that only the postal worker and the address itself have access to.

There are so many shady HOAs, I used to live in an HOA where I wasn't allowed to park my work truck there overnight. I read the rules and they clearly stated I couldn't park it there overnight. Well, I work in the field, so it was not uncommon for me to take my lunch break at my house, my boss was aware, I was in "my area" for work, so from a work standpoint they were fine with it. Yet every month I would get a notice stating someone had complained that my truck was at my house. I would have to go to the meeting and tell them I was eating lunch at my house which was allowed by the rules. This person was literally constantly filing a complaint that my truck was at my house for 1/2 an hour. It was ridiculous. I'll tell you right now I'm part of the violation committee via the HOA board in Tampa Florida. I was asked by the Vice President after receiving $25,000 worth of fines assessed. So I joined, but not after I had reasonable and articulable explanation for what was going on with my home. Painting my home, restarting my yard, weeds in cracks and the flower beds and etc etc etc. The Vice President in Central Florida Tampa Bay ask me to join the violation committee because they had a number on that board or that committee that was not reasonable I came in and gave them reasonable arguments and backed up other neighbors on their concerns. Something else was a trash can being left out by the street when we were on a cruise to Mexico and a family member took an extra day to come and put it up by the garage so it was a thousand for it being by the street and then another thousand the next week they came by and it was in front of the garage. At the meeting that I was asked to join this violation committee was because I brought up several valid points of why someone's garbage can may be left out by the street if you have kids and take them on vacation to the beach to the Park's water park theme parks out-of-state out of town for a weekend what have you. so brother Pam alen pennies if you have to pay him but there should be a separate board that has nothing to do with the HOA board and you can always appeal them and if you have a reasonable articulable discrepancy including not receiving your first warning and then and secondary complementary warning it is invalid and unjust. Fight the good fight you don't look like the type of dude that's going to back down turn on some BS like this. I damn sure didn't I would never. back to my explanation of all my fines. I had contracts under way for everything to be done and when I showed them all the dated contracts they had to drop everything and then you had 90% of the homeowners and they're screaming and hollering that they needed more time. they only give us up to 14 days to correct it or it's $1,000 then it's assessed then it goes to a lawyer then it starts getting interest to where you're unable to pay it plus lawyers fees and your HOA payments if you just making those the lawyer fees and interest from that will gain to where they can take your home away. So I gladly joined 3 years ago and happily I did and now we have homeowners that stay in our community and just follow the rules and we've got our HOA president under control with your violation committee board and HOA bored they have to be separated in pectin have no communication or influence on one another. if any information is found out that they are communicating or influencing one another in anyway it's a crime the entire board and neighborhood can suffer because of it including the company that runs your HOA any Management Group or so on.

To this day the only nasty burnout I've seen in person by a Ford GT was due to a bs HOA. A doctor we were building a fence for back in 2006 had a GT and made sure to drive as neighborly as he possibly could. He came home one day while we were threre and had a fine for loud exhaust and "dangerous" driving. Keep in mind the car was 100% stock including the exhaust and he babied it until he was well away from the neighborhood. Maybe it looked like it was going fast? Anyway, he'd had several issued already with the HOA who just so happened to be having a board meeting that night. He came around back to check on the fence progress and ranted about the fines a while then decided to go to the board meeting which was about to begin. He got the GT out and said "They think it's loud and fast? They don't have a clue. They're about to learn." He pulled out of his driveway and we had the entertainment of watching the car almost disappearing in a cloud of tire smoke then heading off down the street still smoking the tires until well out of sight. We did another fence in the same neighborhood two months later and the black marks were still nice and dark. We later learned he made it his goal to very carefully study the HOA rules and stay as close to the ragged edge of violating as many as possible until they realized he would make their lives miserable until they left him alone.

"HOA" is an instant deal breaker. Found some land once that had the HOA restrictions. They were 10 acre lots in a new development (only 2 of I think 10 lots had been sold), and had a condition that a certain percentage of land owners could dissolve the HOA by vote. When I offered to buy enough 10 acre lots to own the necessary majority so I could unilaterally dissolve the HOA deed restrictions, the seller's realtor quit returning my calls.

As a community, you and your neighbors have the right to see an itemized list of all expenditures made by the HOA using the HOA fees and fines upon request. If you are not getting a complete itemized list of all expenditures, then that is a good sign that the HOA president and possibly others close to the president are embezzling the funds and the refusal gives you and your neighbors the right to take the HOA to court in order to receive the financial paperwork and possibly begin the procedures of lawsuits and prosecution of the embezzlement crime. Also take note of how the HOA president and those closest to them are living. If they are living beyond their means, then that's another good indication that they are embezzling the HOA funds.

I am also having problems with my HOA. About a week ago I received a letter about my flagpole stating that I had to remove the “house decoration flag” from it and that I can only fly the “American flag” on it. The flag they were referring to is the Marine Corps flag, which according to the HOA rules can be flown for 30 days before a holiday and 15 days after the holiday. This was within 30 days of Veterans Day.
I backed down and removed the American flag and the USMC flag and replaced them with the Gadsden Flag instead which is a historical American flag as well as the very first flag of the Marine Corps. Two days ago I received another letter from them stating that I must now remove the “yellow house decoration flag”.
I sent them a 3 page letter basically reading the riot act to them this time. with copies of the Presidential Executive Order which discussed the ability of citizens to fly “historical American flags” or the current American flag, and that all 48 historical American flags deserve the same honor and respect as the current American flag. I also notified them that Congress authorized that as one of the very first Americans=ricin flags to represent the country and that Congress has since never unauthorized the flag.
At the end I said that since neither the Federal flag code, state law or city ordinance requires that ONLY the current American flag may be flown and historical American flags are banned. Their own HOA covenants do not specify that it has to be the current American flag either. So I told them I am standing my ground, and if they want to push the issue, I am happy to discuss the issue in court with them and my civil defense attorney.

I've lived in my home for 17 years in a rural community in Idaho. About four years ago, a farmer died and his children didn't want to continue his legacy and sold a section of his property to a developer who got approval from the city council to build an over 55 private subdivision. Our whole neighborhood was against this project and voiced our concerns and opposition at council meetings. The mayor and two newly elected council members are involved in real estate. The mayor was a broker, the council members are agents. They voted to approve the project. It is now about 30 percent finished. I have been visited by two of the new residents of that community and told that my home and yard are in violation of their HOA covenants and regulations. My home is over 50 years old, and built in a time when rural communities didn't even know what a HOA was. When I purchased my home 17 years ago, there still were no HOA requirements. I have kindly told both of those new residents (one from California, the other from Massachusetts) to more or less go ***k themselves as I do NOT belong to your HOA nor am I bound to abide by it's covenants. One of the neighbors down the road was also visited with similar complaints. They were greeted with a shotgun and told to leave. The cops were called. The cops came and told them, "Hey, you are trespassing. This isn't California, you are advised to leave and mind your own business." I love this town. The cops of both the local police and sheriffs office are pretty cool. The cattle in that pasture were better neighbors. I miss waking up to their morning moos. I would take my dogs for walks down the lane and take a ball and toss it and the younger dog would run and chase it and bring it back for another toss. The cattle would run back and forth along the fence with the dog. I used to tell them jokingly, "Learn to play ball, you'll live longer . . . " They'd just give that dumb and innocent cow stare. I miss those bovine boys. HOAs may start out with good intent, but more often than not end up with corrupt leaders who get on a power trip and think that they can control almost everything you do. BTW, that mayor, and the two council members were voted out in the last election. Too many new ordinances that profited them upset many residents.
