Pillar Community Innovation Finalist: L'Arche London Music Club

Music has always been able to make an impact and one day a week may seem small but it is powerful. L’Arche London Music Club has been making Monday mornings brighter since 2000 for what is now a group of over 120 participants and volunteers. A music club for adults with developmental disabilities, it offers a space where anyone can express themselves musically, feel accepted, respected, and celebrated. The Monday Morning Music Club always extends an open invitation to the whole community to attend at no cost. There is a band that sits on the stage and takes requests - rarely have they not known a song, but if it happens, the band makes an effort to learn it for the following Monday. Anyone can come up to the microphone and sing or grab a hand instrument, giving everyone a chance to have their voice heard. It is a gathering of acceptance and music, and nothing sounds better on a Monday morning.
