I do love a happy ending :-). I wish people would stop remaking Romeo and Juliet and instead revisit this one every once in awhile. It literally took 20 years for the Joss Wheaton version!
Please stop talking about Branagh leaving Thompson. You weren't there, you don't know how the relationship was or what really happenned. With or without each other, they are great
msinvincible2000 you are right, but I still wish they had stayed together. They both seem happy with their current relationships, but I did love them as a couple.
not just pretty - he was a shockingy good, if unconventional don pedro. he didn't bother with the ultra classy english accent, but he brought a genuine warmth and soulful kindness that other stuffy english adaptations could never find.
And what lesson does this impart on us, oh roguish knaves and devious damsels? Why, that the heart knows the heart and the mind knows the mind. That a sharp wit and sharper tongue may cut to the soul but the blood drawn runs the richest and reddest. Seek not the bright summer days and the fleeting moments of fancy. Seek the shelter in the storms and the fire that stokes your own. For from that heat you will find yourself warmed when all the world is grey and your spirit ablaze when all other passions have run their course. ;)
Jenna Clay I totally agree with you. Ken and Emma were a gorgeous couple. . .why the hell he went with that pale, scrawny freak for I will never know. I'm just glad Emma Thompson is the same successful, amazing beautiful woman now x x
Funny, someone commented that the actor was Kenneth. My prom partner was named Kenneth and I'm playing Beatrice for my english exam :) if only my name were Emma, the coicidence would seem as if I copied the movie :D lolz
Would people in this utterly asinine age of political correctness gone rancid, misanthropy masquerading as feminism, and hatred of the Western world's cultural heritage actually take a LOOK at Shakespeare's plays (other than "The Taming of the Shrew", one of his earliest works) and see how glorious his overall portrayal of women really was? Imogen, Hermione, Cleopatra, the Countess of Rousillion, Perdita, Cordelia, Helena, Desdemona, Juliet, Rosalind, Viola, both Portias, and Beatrice here are intelligent, courageous and heroic characters who risk everything to attain their goals. Sometimes they lose their lives, sometimes they succeed and find happiness (I believe that's called "life"), but they are, in both cases, wonderful people who often outshine the men around them. (Bertram looks like a dishrag next to Helena, as Posthumus does compared to Imogen). And please remember, people: these were PLAYS, intended for a mass audience. No playwright would have been such a commercially suicidal fool as to portray the relations of men and women in a way that he knew would either anger or scandalize his customers, and thereby drive them out of the theater. The only conclusion is that, whatever the official orthodoxies of the time may have been regarding gender-related matters, there were plenty of people who recognized themselves in these characters, and thereby made these bejewelled plays into successes. Yes, there were cruelties, tyrannies and oppression aplenty in the past; but there was a hell of a lot else going on besides. Why can't we give our beleaguered race at least a little credit?
There must be something wrong with that man. Why would he leave the very beautiful Emma Thompson for that creepy weirdo Helena Bomham Carter? It doesn't make sense. Emma is so amazing and I started an Instagram fan page for her so please follow it's @amazingemmathompson Please follow!!!!!!!
"we kinda wanna get married, but not because we like each other or anything" this is basically what the sarcastics said
“Peace! I will stop your mouth” is the most beautiful way of saying “shut up and kiss me!”
"I will stop your mouth"
The way he chuckles it gets me every time.

Please stop talking about Branagh leaving Thompson. You weren't there, you don't know how the relationship was or what really happenned. With or without each other, they are great
Agreed! They both seem to be much happier now anyway, and let's face it, Emma didn't do too badly for herself, she married Willoughby 😜
msinvincible2000 you are right, but I still wish they had stayed together. They both seem happy with their current relationships, but I did love them as a couple.
Emma Thompson is the best actress today 😉
This film was directed in Italy near Firenze (Greve in Chianti) while the Comedy is settled in Messina Sicily

Wow Denzel, you're pretty in this movie
not just pretty - he was a shockingy good, if unconventional don pedro. he didn't bother with the ultra classy english accent, but he brought a genuine warmth and soulful kindness that other stuffy english adaptations could never find.
I just realized that the entire cast of Henry V is in this movie too
And in couple of other Branagh Projekts as well

Jenna Clay I totally agree with you. Ken and Emma were a gorgeous couple. . .why the hell he went with that pale, scrawny freak for I will never know. I'm just glad Emma Thompson is the same successful, amazing beautiful woman now x x
