    When measuring the resistors on the output tube sockets I said “screen grid resistors” but meant to say grid stoppers. Live narration while thinking about the work instead of the words…

    Thanks for this Lyle! I love the old school long-format videos! "The bias wire for the 3 people watching this far" Ha! Hardly. Do not underestimate the intelligence, patience, curiosity, the low-tolerance for B.S. that your discerning viewers have. Your stuff is the best to learn about vintage amps, electronics, and just relax to your voice as you work.

    Gotta agree with the others: These long form videos are really valuable and enjoyable for me. There's really no substitute for looking over the shoulder of an experienced craftsman while they do their work. All sorts of subtle nuances come through. I'm an amp tech and amp builder, and I'm still learning from you Lyle. Many thanks! Have a banana.

    Boring!?!! Being a nerd I'm glad your doing a lengthy video, showing the actual time it takes to work on any amplifier with experience, knowledge and insite on how each amp works in depth. So Lyle, it's never boring but educational for all that appreciate excellence... Have a banana!!🍌

    Hi Lyle ,boring video ? you know we love and miss those beautifull long videos and now in 4k !! , I still watch your playlists for Deluxe Reverb, Princeton, those were the days when your channel grew up and now everybody knows how you work, It´s a win - win situation IMHO, we enjoy and learn and you gain subs and potential customers. I´m glad you came back to the "golden days" off long repair videos, that´s where you shine and show your expertise to the world. Remember, there may be 20k subs that don´t even know your troubleshooting and repair superb skills. Sorry, English is not my main language and you are an English Major, my writing must be a nightmare to read. Cheers, have a nice weekend!

    Personally, I like this length of a video better than the shorter videos. It shows the real nuance and what it takes to do things correct and the amount of time to that. I would like to see you do some work on a early USA made Fender hot rod Deville 410, and also a Fender Blues jr if possible. Have a banana.

    Hi Lyle, wonderful video! Thanks so much for posting the whole she-bang. I was especially happy to see you chasing an errant screw around in the chassis when you were putting the bias board back in. I have chased many a screw around in numerous amp chassis myself through the years, and I always thought that was something the pros probably never do... because they're the pros, you know, and always I felt foolish when a screw got away from me. But watching you lose that screw *and get it back very patiently* made me feel better about my own amp adventures. And if I may say so, it enhances my admiration for your work too. I will now have a banana, per your recommendation at the end! Keep up the great work!

    I personally love the long videos; there is a lot of technique in the way you do your work. That sort of gets lost on short content. But, seeing these longer version shows how much work goes into the shorter videos.. Camera angles/focus/settings, Mic placement, editing out stuff you don't want in. Just a raw video of what processes go into each amplifier while all are different. Thanks for the uploads Lyle.

    Lyle, as a starting repair tech with not much experience with vintage amps, this video is a godsend. I currently have an almost stock 1977/78 TR on the bench. And your videos are a big source of knowledge and confidence for me. No short span attention here. I will be studying this video meticulously. Thank you so much for making your content.

  • @mikkabrightheart2268
    @mikkabrightheart2268 7 месяцев назад

    One thing about this video that I actually like a lot and you seem sorta self conscious about is the fact that you're doing things like calling the parts the wrong name and dropping a screw into the chassis... Bc they're things that happen to everyone occasionally and sometimes the very highly edited amp tech footage available on RUclips can make it seem like they're not... When everyone edits out all the difficulty the amp presents it can make you question like... I could have sworn those were tiny, fiddly screws but maybe my hands just don't work good 🤷 also I think sometimes people with amps that need work can come to expect that repair is a quick and cheap process and it's usually not so I enjoy the long form content and also I think it's important...

    I have a whole bunch of really high quality TRW mil spec wire wound 2 watt 470 ohm resistors that look almost just like carbon comp resistors. I might send some to you, Lyle. They are all very well within specs and they are NOT carbon comps, but cosmetically, they do look the part to most people. I have 100s of them and I cannot think of anyone else I'd rather send some too. It's my turn to watch mom, so I am still here after 30 minutes and 40 minutes, and... 50 minutes and...... and it's always a pleasure to watch Lyle's meticulously fabulous workmanship being plied to an iconic Fender amp. I am supposed to be closing down and took in a Hammond B3. Doh! It's waiting for two caps & then it's back on the truck. We all need some prettification!

I'm glad I did it in two parts because it gives me time to digest the amp building portion and start to ask more questions. Gotta love all the anecdotes that Bruce shares as he apparently has worked with quite a few people in the business. Just ordered ceramic disk caps for a 6L6 vibro-champ build and now going to order the ones you suggested instead. I prefer to watch the work being done as most my questions are about the little details. Amazing content, thanks!

    Loved it all the way through. I'd rather stare at knuckles for a minute than miss any of the steps you are taking. !!! Don't bother with bifocals. They are only good for reading at a desk. Working with your hands means almost everything you need to see is at arm's length or less. Get two pairs of glasses - one for distance and one that is only the prescription that would make up the reading portion of the bifocals. Doing this has changed my life. I really only use my distance glasses for driving. Most of my day is spent with clear vision at arms length. !!!

    • @goodun2974
      @goodun2974 7 месяцев назад

      I wore bifocals for 20 years of electronic technician bench work. I had the scrip adjusted so that the focal distance for the lower half of the lens was about 20 inches out. I also have Optivisor magnifying headbands in several different strengths and swap them often during the course of a repair.....
