Wonder if that oak was a sog. It sure was dark and smelly for a white oak. Sure enough to get the edger man scratching his head trying to figure out if he could get something out of it and a resaw would be nice but get a little loose a little. Good job.
Hi! Thanks for the questions. The sawmill consists of a Frick track frame, edmiston carriage, helle sawmill hydraulics controls, and mellot log turner. We use a 125 hp 460 volt electric motor. Originally we used a 671 Detroit then a 250 hp 6068 john deere before we went electric.
Has anybody in the u.s.a left the dark ages and run a band mill those old circle mills waste a incredibly amount of wood.... unless theres a huge market for sawdust???
Not gonna pretend i know your business. But would splitting that big boy with a chainsaw? Is that an option? I do understand sitting in the cab is better than standing in the yard. Just wondering about yield.
Mark Galicic cuts rotten logs all the time.
hi there good job sawing a ugly log , best to all john
Thanks. It was kind of a pain. But we have to take the good with the bad

I think it was a white oak but maybe I was wrong. But it definitely was holding water.
@@nicholssawmillandmore Awful dark but a sog would be dark. Poplar is. And if it was sunk it's hard to tell but the smell would give it away a lot.
a lot of waste and time on one log
No shortage of armchair sawing experts here with lots to say. Good thing they're here to coach you along. 🙄
Haha I know, right?! Thanks for watching.
Nice video Mr. Nichols. Enjoy listening to that Virginia accent.
Thanks! We are happy you are here.
@@nicholssawmillandmore two questions. Is this a Frick mill what do you have powering the mill?

@@nicholssawmillandmore is the electric motor easier?
Well it's less expensive to operate and quieter
Why did you continue to cut 1 inch out of the low grade log
In
/the low grade log ?
We don't have a market for thicker bds right now
Good chips or mulch in that one
Good chips.

I do have a good market for sawdust and also have 2 bandmills

Thanks for question. We do split them if they are any bigger. Finding the time to do that though is hard. Thanks for watching
Let's not just show it from the cab
Thanks for the suggestion. Have a good day.
