  • How did China become so powerful in just one generation? Some attribute it to adopting a capitalist system, but this isn't the whole story. Others credit China's success to its large population, but India, with a comparable population, didn't achieve similar growth. So what makes China so powerful? Well, this is exactly what we’re going to discover in today’s video...

I agree 100 percent with your video.
Ultimately, China's spectacular success over the last four decades boils down to one thing: *good governance.*
China has a very capable and intelligent leadership. China has a very effective model of democracy, much different from the West's liberal model.
China produced good long-term policies. They were farsighted and wise.
    These policies:
    - focused on education and infrastructure
    - avoided wasting money on warfare
    - prioritized international trade
    - emphasized diplomacy and respect with other nations

While you pointed out according to Chinese wisdom that education is the key to China's growth yet did little to reinforce that theme. China graduates over two times more college grads than the US and 40% of those grads are STEM majors. China graduates eight times more STEM students than does the US. Further, Russia with less than half the population of the US, graduates as many STEM students as does the US.
Because of this educated manpower resource, China will surpass the US in the technology sector. The US, instead of collaborating and taking advantage of that fact, chooses to sanction and pose restrictions to hinder China's growth. It will lose.
American politicians like Biden talk big on how the US will beat China in the tech race by throwing money at it. That, by itself, will end up poorly as there are not enough tech graduates to implement the funding. And, for that matter, the restrictions imposed on China in technology are having a boomerang effect and causing more harm to US tech companies than to China. In fact, these restrictions are only making China stronger.

    • @kkay2000

STEM students are important, but should not underestimate other professions. In Western world, more and more want to enter university. Diploma is now saturated. And nobody wants to take labor work (even skilled ones, e.g. electrician). China is correct in using Gaokao to put a brake on "everyone wants to enter university".

    • @MASMIWA
      @MASMIWA 21 день назад +7

@@oceanwave4502 The Gaokao is there to pick the best students for the limited space in the best universities. The problem today in China is they lump together graduates from trade schools with universities and the students that are unemployed are mostly from the trade schools. The reason why they want to enter a university is because of higher pay. Many want a government job. American universities are unaffordable to American students and colleges like Chinese students because they pay full tuitions. Those Chinese families that can afford it send their kids to the US to get a degree because it is easier to get in vs China. It gives the family prestige to brag their child is studying abroad. It matters little because most of these rich kids will work in their family's business.

Only a way America still win is using foreign Human Resources, and America already doing this. America somehow held on by this way, but this is causing serious fall of right to participate important parts of society for domestic American nationals.
However, this trend is not so different in China and such ultra-meritocracy destroying ordinary people all over the world. This serious side effect is appearing also in China. I think a large nation that succeeded to reconstruct a nation state will win. Majority of people are really exhausted by globalization and ultra-meritocracy.

The analysis is only a skin deep with the appreciation limited to the western education.
One important feature of China is its 5000 years culture which could be grossly simplified by saying it has Confucius - or ancestorial teaching refined and condensed over thousands of years. That culture unifies the thinking of Chinese, makes them behave orderly in a coherent society and to aspire the Chinese people to put their interest of the community (or country) before the individuals'.
Many people regard President Xi a great leader who clearly is one. However I would say most classically educated Chinese will act 90% like Xi because they all believe in a way to meet the approval of their ancestors or the Confucius way. With that Chinese could never invade a foreign land, slaughter the indigenous natives and establish another new country there. Confucius teaching compel the Chinese to share future with everyone and not act as a hegemon. When US invented the Covid vaccines it declared outsiders could only get American vaccines after all the Americans had been vaccinated and there were spares left. Xi on the other hand pledged Chinese vaccines would be shared because to do the American way would be opposing Confucius.
Another important feature of China is its people may act uniformly and coherently but they all have good mind individually. I offer the International Math Olympiad (IMO) competition as a proof. Math is a subject that forces the learner to use the mind and to think for solving a solution. China was under more than 20 years economic blockade by the US. It was not recognised as a sovereign country until 1971 when the world majority overturned US in the UN with resolution to replace the US-back Taiwan with mainland as the legal representative of the Chinese people. Thus China was only able to join IMO after 1985. Since 1985 US has won the IMO championship 6 times but China took the gold 24 times. This proves China is strong in math decades before it rises up. However in the 6-member IMO team there are Chinese names in the US team. The numbers of Chinese names in the 6 times US scored gold medal are 1986(0), 1994(1), 2015(2), 2016(3), 2018(4) and 2018(5). In 2023 China won again with US as the second runner-up but all six US team members have Chinese names! The Chinese name in US team may come from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and other countries in South East Asia and their common denominator is Confucius influence.
China is a country famous for making goods affordable to the masses. Confucius is the person who pioneered making education affordable to everybody in China. Thus few so call China experts could get China right until they have studied Confucius teaching.

You indeed have a deep understanding of Chinese culture, which emphasizes dedication to collective interests rather than personal gains. In this culture, serving others means others will serve you in return. Only by uniting together can we achieve great things, foster social harmony, and jointly resist the invasion of external enemies. The western culture of freedom, however, is perceived as selfish in Chinese culture, focusing solely on individual interests while neglecting the interests of others. This cannot be considered as freedom and democracy; rather, it is akin to a barbaric animal culture.

That means a high school student can read any professional articles without problem where it is impossible for English. Japan, however, are not influenced by Confucius ethnics. They don't think it is compatible with their bushido spirit. That is why Japan in history always have the ambition of conquering others. China, otoh, adopted Confucianist principles in their civil service system which helps mitigate their ambitions of expansionism

Oh yes, Confucianism has influenced Japan in a major way. If the Japanese also espouse Bushido, then this would not be the first time that Confucianism was combined with a different belief system - in fact, this has happened several times before with Buddhism, Taoism, etc.

I am talking about in general. Japanese, since history don't practice Confucianism because this is reflected in the history. China Confucianism emphasised very strongly on scholars, elites and respect of order which means the highest hierarchy system is the Emperor. He held the mandate of heaven. Farmers are among the highest in the hierarchy too . During peacetime, they will till the land. During war, they will be enlisted as soldiers to fight the enemy. In Japan, it is completely opposite. Warrior class aka Samurai are held in the highest esteem. The Emperor held little power. It is Shogun or samurai warriors who run the affairs in the country. Confucianism which has a kind of meekness as 'being a gentleman' is the highest achievement. Samurai has their own code of honour but it has certain aspects similar to Confucianism but there are also differences like Confucianist policies are inward looking while Samurais always expand their territories. But Chan or Zen Buddhism influenced Japan greatly too. Zen Buddhism and Confucianism, Samurai code of honour share many similarities as well ad they emphasise on improvement of oneself. So to say Japan adopted Confucianist ethnics is not really the case as Japan had their own way of philosophical thoughts which share similarities.

    • @psyberking
      @psyberking 17 дней назад +2

@@user-nq2sw6sg8q So Japan adopted Confucian values inconsistently, selecting what it liked, say the work ethic part, and throwing out what it didn't like, say the benevolence/meekness part. Same in China, where Confucian teachings were distorted and co-opted by ruling dynasties and groups for their political agenda - albeit more consistently than in Japan. And btw, the same is true with Christianity in the West, where Christ is often paid lip service only on Sunday, and Social Darwinism is adopted for the rest of the week. But none of the above inconsistencies show that Confucianism did not influence Japan and China in a major way, or that Christianity did not influence the West. For most people, contradictions are not an impediment to belief.

To me, the best way to describe China's approach in governance is Chinese Socialism State Capitalism
China is socialist, but they have a Chinese brand of socialism. They're not going to do dum bass sht like subsizing drug needles or paying ppl to he jobless like the west. Instead their brand of socialism focuses on things like poverty alleviation, education accessibility, and food security
They also harness the strength of capitalism, but on a state level, meaning enterprises and corporations are always subservient to the state and not the other way around like in the west. In China you can grow rich, but you cannot put your personal interest above that of the nation
Ma Yun is a textbook example, someone who fell from grace because his Ant Group policies would have led to the creation of a credit bubble that would eventually lead to disaster for the country

This help me understand China better.
I’m from Malaysia. China has traded with Malaysia for 2000 years. In those years, they had been the world’s biggest powers many times. Never once they sent troops to take our land. Admiral Zheng He came to Malacca five times, in gigantic fleets, and a flagship eight times the size of Christopher Columbus’ flagship, Santa Maria. He could have seized Malacca easily, but he did not. In 1511, the Portuguese came. In 1642, the Dutch came. In the 18th century the British came. We were colonised by each, one after another.
When China wanted spices from India, they traded with the Indians. When they wanted gems, they traded with the Persian. They didn’t take lands. The only time China expanded beyond their current borders was in Yuan Dynasty, when Genghis and his descendants Ogedei Khan, Guyuk Khan & Kublai Khan concurred China, Mid Asia and Eastern Europe. But Yuan Dynasty, although being based in China, was a part of the Mongolian Empire.
Then came the Century of Humiliation. Britain smuggled opium into China to dope the population, a strategy to turn the trade deficit around, after the British could not find enough silver to pay the Qing Dynasty in their tea and porcelain trades. After the opium warehouses were burned down and ports were closed by the Chinese in ordered to curb opium, the British started the Opium War I, which China lost. Hong Kong was forced to be surrendered to the British in a peace talk (Nanjing Treaty). The British owned 90% of the opium market in China, during that time, Queen Victoria was the world’s biggest drug baron. The remaining 10% was owned by American merchants from Boston. Many of Boston’s institutions were built with profit from opium.
After 12 years of Nanjing Treaty, the West started getting really really greedy. The British wanted the Qing government:
    1. To open the borders of China to allow goods coming in and out freely, and tax free.
    2. Make opium legal in China.
Insane requests, Qing government said no. The British and French, with supports from the US and Russia from behind, started Opium War II with China, which again, China lost. The Anglo-French military raided the Summer Palace, and threatened to burn down the Imperial Palace, the Qing government was forced to pay with ports, free business zones, 300,000 kilograms of silver and Kowloon was taken. Since then, China’s resources flew out freely through these business zones and ports. In the subsequent amendment to the treaties, Chinese people were sold overseas to serve as labor.
In 1900, China suffered attacks by the 8-National Alliance(Japan, Russia, Britain, France, USA, Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary). Innocent Chinese civilians in Peking (Beijing now) were murdered, buildings were destroyed & women were raped. The Imperial Palace was raided, and treasures ended up in museums like the British Museum in London and the Louvre in Paris.
In late 1930s China was occupied by the Japanese in WWII. Millions of Chinese died during the occupancy. 300,000 Chinese died in Nanjing Massacre alone.
Mao brought China together again from the shambles. There were peace and unity for some time. But Mao’s later reign saw sufferings and deaths from famine and power struggles.
Then came Deng Xiao Ping and his infamous “black-cat and white-cat” story. His preference in pragmatism than ideologies has transformed China. This thinking allowed China to evolve all the time to adapt to the actual needs in the country, instead of rigidly bounded to ideologies. It also signified the death of Communism in actually practice in China. The current Socialism+Meritocracy+Market Economy model fits the Chinese like gloves, and it propels the uprise of China. Singapore has a similar model, and has been arguably more successful than Hong Kong, because Hong Kong being gateway to China, was riding on the economic boom in China, while Singapore had no one to gain from.
In just 30 years, the CPC have moved 800 millions of people out from poverty. The rate of growth is unprecedented in human history. They have built the biggest mobile network, by far the biggest high speed rail network in the world, and they have become a behemoth in infrastructure. They made a fishing village called Shenzhen into the world’s second largest technological centre after the Silicon Valley. They are growing into a technological power house. It has the most elaborate e-commerce and cashless payment system in the world. They have launched exploration to Mars. The Chinese are living a good life and China has become one of the safest countries in the world. The level of patriotism in the country has reached an unprecedented height.
For all of the achievements, the West has nothing good to say about it. China suffers from intense anti-China propagandas from the West. Western Media used the keyword “Communist” to instil fear and hatred towards China.
Everything China does is negatively reported.
They claimed China used slave labor in making iPhones. The truth was, Apple was the most profitable company in the world, it took most of the profit, leave some to Foxconn (a Taiwanese company) and little to the labor.
They claimed China was inhuman with one-child policy. At the same time, they accused China of polluting the earth with its huge population. The fact is the Chinese consume just 30% of energy per capita compared to the US.
They claimed China underwent ethnic cleansing in Xinjiang. The fact is China has a policy which priorities ethnic minorities. For a long time, the ethnic minorities were allowed to have two children and the majority Han only allowed one. The minorities are allowed a lower score for university intakes. There are 39,000 mosque in China, and 2100 in the US. China has about 3 times more mosque per muslim than the US.
When terrorist attacks happened in Xinjiang, China had two choices:
    1. Re-educate the Uighur extremists before they turned terrorists.
    2. Let them be, after they launch attacks and killed innocent people, bomb their homes.
China chose 1 to solve problem from the root and not to do killing. How the US solve terrorism? Fire missiles from battleships, drop bombs from the sky.
    During the pandemic,
When China took extreme measures to lockdown the people, they were accused of being inhuman.
When China recovered swiftly because of the extreme measures, they were accused of lying about the actual numbers.
When China’s cases became so low that they could provide medical support to other countries, they were accused of politically motivated.
Western Media always have reasons to bash China.
Just like any country, there are irresponsible individuals from China which do bad and dirty things, but the China government overall has done very well. But I hear this comment over and over by people from the West: I like Chinese people, but the CPC is evil. What they really want is the Chinese to change the government, because the current one is too good.
Fortunately China is not a multi-party democratic country, otherwise the opposition party in China will be supported by notorious NGOs (Non-Government Organization) of the USA, like the NED (National Endowment for Democracy), to topple the ruling party. The US and the British couldn’t crack Mainland China, so they work on Hong Kong. Of all the ex-British colonial countries, only the Hong Kongers were offered BNOs by the British. Because the UK would like the Hong Kongers to think they are British citizens, not Chinese. A divide-and-conquer strategy, which they often used in Color Revolutions around the world.
They resort to low dirty tricks like detaining Huawei’s CFO & banning Huawei. They raised a silly trade war which benefits no one. Trade deficit always exist between a developing and a developed country. USA is like a luxury car seller who ask a farmer: why am I always buying your vegetables and you haven’t bought any of my cars?
When the Chinese were making socks for the world 30 years ago, the world let it be. But when Chinese started to make high technology products, like Huawei and DJI, it caused red-alert. Because when Western and Japanese products are equal to Chinese in technologies, they could never match the Chinese in prices. First world countries want China to continue in making socks. Instead of stepping up themselves, they want to pull China down.
The recent movement by the US against China has a very important background. When Libya, Iran, and China decided to ditch the US dollar in oil trades, Gaddafi’s was killed by the US, Iran was being sanctioned by the US, and now it’s China’s turn. The US has been printing money out of nothing. The only reason why the US Dollar is still widely accepted, is because it’s the only currency which oil is allowed to be traded with. The US has an agreement with Saudi that oil must be traded in US dollar ONLY. Without the petrol-dollar status, the US dollars will sink, and America will fall. Therefore anyone trying to disobey this order will be eliminated. China will soon use a gold-backed crypto-currency, the alarms in the White House go off like mad.
China’s achievement has been by hard work. Not buy looting the world.
I have deep sympathy for China for all the suffering, but now I feel happy for them. China is not rising, they are going back to where they belong. Good luck China.
    -Zeis Siez

Well, that was quite an essay! And I must say I can't disagree with most of it. Except I am a little suspicious of the CCP's ambitions in the South China Sea - as are Vietnam and the Philippines. On the other hand, it's understandable, given the US attempts to hem China in by the increased presence of military bases in the region.
These tensions are only going to increase, I fear, and it's blatantly obvious that the US would love to trigger some level of military engagement, which is the dumbest thing it could ever do, but senile Biden and his administration are all hawks, hence the massive arms sales and support to Ukraine and Israel. Would the world be better off with Trump? Possibly not, though there were no major conflicts during his previous tenure. He doesn't appear to be a globalist, either. It's his domestic policies that spark alarms, at least for Americans.
US global expansion began seriously in 1898 with the annexation of Hawaii and the purchase of the Philippines, and acquisition of Puerto Rico that same year followed by Guam and Eastern Samoa in 1899. It must have been addictive, since other territories followed but it was ultimately business opportunities that became the real incentive and means of control, hence their current panic at seeing all that global wealth at risk of disappearing or at least being severely curtailed. Empirical ambitions come and go; and as far as the US goes, it may have another twenty or thirty years left in it before it becomes just another country vying for trade agreements, leaving its hegemony by the wayside.

The Philippines' territorial claims to the South China Sea come from the 1970s, they came late to the game and the South China Sea has nothing to do with them in history or reality. learn the good, discard the bad. that's how you can progress. it's a very basic chinese philosophy and life attitude. a lot of people do not know that dxp went to japan to seek to learn japanese management systems etc with an open heart without ego or vengeance. that's the ultimate reason why china could progress rapidly; being pragmatic and farsighted without prejudice.

** UPDATE (10-July-2024) ** LOL indians prime minister (modi) - has officially signed the future of indian into the hands of Russia. The USA (through Israel) has confirmed that they won't be proceeding with the IMEC corridor - because of the blockage and disagreement to continue by UAE and the Kingdom of Saudi. Now indai begged Putin by giving everything to Russia in order for guaranteed friendship and trade. #RIPindia.

When a Chinese gathers water from a well using a bucket it is filled to the brine but when an Indian does it it’s only half filled. However, what’s more important is that the Indian insists it is fully filled.😂😂

All Modi has to do is swallow his false pride and join The Belt & Road Initiative. Then watch India economy grow rapidly. Russia does not have the same China's economic power and may never will. So, Modi is in a way, 'barking up the wrong tree'? LOL! Uncle Sam is all talk and tied to Israel. The article only discusses China's economic policies but misses a core aspect: the development of China's economy serves ordinary people. There are two other important initiatives not mentioned in the article:
    1. Large-scale universal education. Many people in China's new generation have received higher education, and many have become scientists and engineers.
    2. Large-scale public infrastructure construction. China's public infrastructure has greatly facilitated logistics and ordinary people's travel, reducing logistics costs in industrial development and increasing the mobility of the population.

This article is a bit out esp at the early times of China opening up.
This article seems to credit companies like Apple to uplift the poverty and development of China.
Fact when China opened up Shenhzen and other economic zones ONLY overseas Chinese companies from Hong Kong , Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore , and Indonesia started to invest in mother land to develop it.
It became very successful and sold world wide and Chinese started to develop.
American companies and western companies were going bankcrupt and these started to join into the Chinese miracle.
Appled joined very late on this , not in the beginning as the article wanted to show.
Even Deng Siow Peng admitted it was the overseas Chinese that make China ... not the west. In fact saved these American companies e.g GM and Ford motors... when both were in trouble.
