- More often than not we don't get to play with our toys as much as we'd like & that definitely applies to kids quad bikes too...unfortunately, anything with a petrol engine probably won't start if it's been stood, unused for a few months.
This certainly applies to this little Suzuki quad bike & it's a common request by customers to 'get it running' & 'give it a once over'...
So, in this video I do just that, I run through the basic procedure to get a bike like this up & running again...
If you have any questions then please add them to the comments section & I'll get back to you just as soon as I can...

Brilliant channel I only found it last week. help me out a lot thanks very much
i found a mint condition suzuki ALT50 for sale in my area cheap. very tempting to buy and store.
+BikeStuff They are great little bikes. Much better made than the LT50A - the later version with larger tyres and suspension.
Get it bought! :-)
Kia Ora my friend hope you are well sir. I have just watched this video, very helpful. I have a suzuki lt 50, it won't start, I have done all the things you have in the above video, obviously we are in Lock Down, my kids are keen to ride it, how can I contact u for assistance pleass? Thanks and have a safe day!
Haha imagine how many would be pulling their arms off. Good checks.....
very good vid thanks
trying to find a stock carburetor for the lil 50 quad is so hard cause the Genius that i bought it from put in a aftermarket one
Thank you for the upload. And the end do you need to start the bike and Prime and then move the petcock to on after it starts? Also I heard you mentioning putting a cable tie on the break for the bike to start is this needed? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
The 2 stroke oil reservoir does it have a low oil safety switch to the coil could that be why I don't have spark?
I can't remember, sorry. Best to download a service manual or just check the oil tank for a sensor
Full choke on is the lever I the down position
Great video. I'm working on the same quad 2002 I did a compression test and I'm at 92 lbs do you know how much it should be on these little 50cc? I can't find it anywhere even in the service manual
Bought a 50 that has the oil injection bypassed so you can mix the the gas and oil. What ratio and oil do you recommend with this set up?
32:1 ratio
Mine runs for about 15 minutes. Idles good . Than it acts like it's running out of fuel. And then finally it won't run at all. Can you help me with this problem?
Sure. First, do the same test but when the engine falters loosen the fuel tank cap, if it then runs okay again the breather to the tank is blocked causing a vacuum to build up.
Cheers Andy
hi andy im trying to fix my nephews lt50/linmax i replaced the coil and the spark is very weak could a dodgey earth cause this magneto any suggestions would be greatly appreciated all the best from durham uk
Hi, sounds like either a bad earth between the coil or possibly on the earth side of the battery to the frame of the bike.
The pickup in the flywheel is only a trigger & does not itself generate the voltage/current for the spark. Given you are getting a spark, though weak, does indicate that the pickup coil is working correctly.
Hope this is of help
Andy
@@AndyMechanic hi andy thanks so much for the reply put earth cable on sparking like a trooper now ... shes alive again started second pull nephews son will be buzzing now all the very best from co durham uk ..
That's awesome news :-) Pleased to be of help. Cheers for now. Andy
Hi was was wondering can this 4wheeler run without the on off switch?
Did everything here and Mine still won't start. Could it be an air filter problem possibly?
Check crank seals & reed valve too - leaks here prevent proper indication of air/fuel mixture into the crank case
Cheers Andy
yeah ive got a question im fixing my yamaha tt600 1983 model and the key that goes in the key way for the magneto/genorator keeps on shearing whats with that??
Anything about service and adjusting Suzuki LT-A50 clutches.
They're completely automatic and self adjusting.
Just don't use car engine oil in the gearbox as the friction modifiers will make the clutch slip.
Use specific motorcycle gearbox oil only!!
I am working on the same ATV and it is extremely hard to start. What do you recommend for the air fuel screw adjustment?
I have no idea, sorry. Haven't got access to my manual at the moment. Definitely check for head gasket leaks & crank shaft seals too - prone to both leaking which will cause hard starting for sure.
Cheers Andy
Andy Mechanic Thanks Andy! I just put a fresh top end on it today. Hopefully it’s not a crankshaft seal. Next time I mess with it I will try it without the choke like you did.
what is the color code for all wires on lt 50 suzuki
Hey mahn. Was wondering if you could help me. I have a suzuki lt50 2000 model. Picked up the bike today from my grans house. Opened up the carb and there was a whole lot of white powder in it. Tried cleaning in it came abit clean but the white marks were still there. After a while finally got fuel in the carb but it still refused to start. Then i went to the 2 stroke oil tank and realised the hose that takes the 2 stroke oil from the pump to the engine was disconnected. Up till now i cannot find where the hose goes. So I decided to premix some fuel and i through it in. Bike still refuses to start. I took out the plug and it was dry.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon
Tameem
Well, check you are getting fuel into the float bowl - just loosen the drain screw and fuel should dribble out the lowest pipe.
If you are then check for induction - is air been drawn into the carb when the piston goes up? (2 stroke engine) you can use tissue over the intake of the carb to test that. If not then could be Reed valve or crank seals that have failed.
Keep me posted to what you find and I'll give you more direction. Cheers Andy
Andy Mechanic thanks alot will keep you posted
So why will the bike still have spark
wired like a old 70s trail bike just disconnect the switch run lol
Do you know were incan buy the switch for same quad
Do you mean the ignition switch?
@@AndyMechanic yes
There are plenty of aftermarket suppliers for these ignition switches - Darbi Accessories in Auckland will be able to help I'm sure or you could try eBay or Amazon.
Cheers Andy
@@AndyMechanic whats your view on cheaper aftermarket parts for Suzuki LT-A50/Lt50 . Pistons head/barrel gaskets etc, UK
Is choke in the UP or DOWN position on this quad? I've been searching everywhere and can't find the answer. Hope you can help, thanks!
+Kevin W I will have to check Kevin. Will reply tomorrow. Cheers Andy
Down is on for choke
Up is off
hi,have you ever rebuilt a pullcord for the older model, ive tried to rebuild my own but the cord wont seem to recoil, and i cant find any vids on this?
+shane logue Yes, once on a Bear Tracker 250. It was a nightmare! Try lawnmower videos as they have pull chords too as I'm no help here sorry.
Andy
spring isn't wound correctly to recoil the rope. their are a few videos. might be best to replace if not already.
On the lta50
I have one of these and its runs for like 10 15 mins then stalls, then itll start again for a little amd stall.weird.i put crank seals in it and brang it back to life since 2002.any guess why it keeps stallimg
Check the float to make sure it is adjusted properly. As we hot rod these 50's out they can suck the bowl dry.
Very true. They do often get stuck down. It's unlikely that the float height is incorrect though so be double sure it's incorrect before you adjust it. Cheers Andy
Hey Andi, Thank's for your video! I just got an 50 quad sport and went 3 day's trying to figure out what my issue was. It ended up being, the crank seal on the recoil side had popped out and was just sitting on the shaft. Replaced the seal and she run' great!
I did the same thing to my Suzuki LTA 50 have perfect spark and still won't start it wants to but wont I even put in new motor oil can you help me
+Troy Lewis Sure. You'll need to check the compression and also the Reed valve - between the carb and crank case
Andy Mechanic thanks Andy will do and get back to you
I've been searching things on these atv's. If you have the vacuum port on cylinder head for the fuel petcock can also cause problems with starting and running. For one getting to much fuel and causing it to flood the cylinder head.
How do I do a compression test
+Troy Lewis Hi Troy, you'll need a compression tester...they aren't too expensive. It could be the main seals either end of the crank shaft too. Does the spark plug get wet with fuel after you have tried to start it?
Andy Mechanic yes spark plug does get wet with fuel
+Troy Lewis okay. Then it's likely your crank seals are okay. You need to check compression now. Also is the fuel old?
pull plug and place finger over hole. you should be able to feel pressure of the air, if not change piston rings.
What should compression be on a 1987 lt50 2 stroke?.. Im getting 40 psi after a rebuild?
Is this quad for sale ?
+Nikith Sylvester No. I don't think so. It belongs to one of my customers.
Rather than this any other lt 50 or lt80 or any two stroke quad for sale ?
I have no spark please help!!!!
+SS FLACDOG I'm going to need a lot more info please
Ok i got it running but it has no power! meaning when I hit the throttle it doesn't want to go.... By the way it's a Suzuki LT80... Any help would be appreciated thx.
