    It seems they (US) put the VISA on a specific page ( like page 23 ) probably so they can find it easier.
    Also, you probably want to go to Niagra Falls for your visa. It’s half New York and half Canada. Just don’t slip over the edge.

    Dear Dari this is your entry visa to get inside the USA. You have to gain additional info from a foreign office for students in USA to get your temporary residence permit. You don't need to go back to Europe to renew your Visa. Visa is just for entry.

    I really don't think it will be difficult to get a visa to come to the U.S. as a student. I live in New Jersey and I must tell that there are millions of people from Russia living on the East coast of our country. You will also be welcomed, even though a majority of people here in the U.S. do not care for the War in Ukraine, and the fact that our nation is pro-Ukraine. That war has nothing to do with the good honest young people from Russia. I have seen your videos in the past and find you to be a brilliant and creative young woman. You deserve a chance to expand your education here in the U.S.
    Btw, you're going to love NYC! The food and culture of that wonderful city is unlimited, I hope you finally get your chance to come here soon.

I was doing okay for an artist but there was no way to remain. I moved to New Haven. Wasn’t very happy there, moved to California, and my work sells. I still miss NYC, but not the winter. You've got a misunderstanding about how US visas work. It's merely an entry document. Once you're in the US, it's meaningless. As a student, it's your I-20 and your I-94 (US equivalent of a migration card) that matters. Your I-94 will cover the dates of your course of study, you can stay for as long as your I-94 is valid and you're still studying (the university will report you if you don't show up to study and your I-94 will be cancelled.) The counterfoil in your passport is completely irrelevant. Once you get to the US, you need to go to the SSA ASAP and apply for an SSN. For that you'll need your I-20, I-94, passport and a letter from the university that you will be engaged in on-campus employment. The SSA will confirm your identity and DOB from your passport, but they don't care about the visa. Canadians don't need visas, so the system was designed so that you don't use it after entry. Usually I advise people in NYC to go to Montreal to get a new F-1 visa so they can travel abroad and re-enter the US, but you'd need a Canadian visa to do that.

      Dari will certainly want to travel abroad! Not least, I'm sure, to visit her family next summer. Being able to stay in the US is all very well, but who on earth (other than most Americans) want's to never leave the US? When I lived in Moscow for three years I left and re-entered FIFTEEN times. And I wasn't trying. I had to actually count them when I was later in the US on an H-1B and wanted to visit friends and ex-colleagues for 10 days at New Year 2020 and to get a tourist visa I had to detail every previous entry into Russia.

    • @steven-k.
      @steven-k. Год назад +2

      While I'm on the subject, you'll need to file an I-765 to get your EAD, but the university has presumably explained how to do that.

      It's*very important* to comply with U. S. A. immigration laws and regulations.
      My parental family had split up multiple times in four cities and three national jurisdictions. My Mom got so fed up with our split-ups that she prohibited my Dad from veering off in his own way illegally overstaying in the U. S. A.
      He obeyed. My Mom didn't like the experience of sneaking with a kid in tow across national jurisdictions and ended up as ambiguously and probably stateless illegal immigrant (Hong Kong, its different sections and territory, are complex in its jurisdictions).
      I only remember that upon arriving in JFK International Airport, after we had gone through the entry checking of then-called INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service, now the CBP -- Customs and Border Patrol), I somehow got a small white card with my alien registration number printed upon it.

    • @steven-k.
      @steven-k. Год назад +1

      @@solconcordia4315 What you're describing is an I-94. If you immigrate as a permanent resident, CBP will stamp the passport with an I-551 stamp, but if you're stateless they stamp the I-94 and take your photo and staple it to the form. Not sure how they do it since I-94s became electronic. But anyway, an I-94 is typically used for non-immigrants, although you might adjust status later on.

      I live in Boulder, Colorado for 8 years, I suggest going there. Weather and scenery are awesome, and people are really friendly.

    Dari - you visa is for the entry to the USA - it is Not for the Duration of studies - your Foreign Student Advisor at St Johns University will get you settled. Keep your I-20 form or J-1, that is what determines how long you can stay in the usa.

    Thanks for the video! It was nice seeing how this process worked. Now we're all waiting to hear how the trip to the USA went 🙂

    Oh, don't worry about the visa. Your visa is only for the entry to the US. Once you enter, they will give I-94 form where they will put in how long you can stay. For students, usually they have a stamp D/S ("duration of status"), so that you can stay in the US as long as you continue with the study program.

    St. John's is a very respectable school. I'm looking forward to when you can compare your American to Russian universities.

      No, it will be impossible legally unfortunately. Mexico or Barbados will work tho.

    Interesting, Definitely different from my family’s journey to America which may or may not involve almost suffocating on the back of a truck heading towards Texas
