OMG, this is so helpful! I've been diving into more and more manga this year, and I get so confused with the genres and Japanese names for things. Do you have a list somewhere, where all of this is written down and spelled out?
please could you do a manga bookshelf video, i know you posted a picture on Instagram but i'd love to see them all up close, great video my favourite genre is shojo i love Arina Tanemura's work my favpurite by her is Sakura Hime Kaden
Super Space Chick yay!!! I have very similar tastes to the manga you've shown and read in other videos so I'm exited to see it (and also your magical girl wands!! Haha)
LOVE THE SHELVES this way! They are warmer looking like this. Thanks for sharing some manga wisdom! ;) Besides being a huge Hayao Miyazaki fan, I am totally a stranger in the Manga world.
I love Sailor Moon, Attack on Titan, Vampire Knight and One Piece!!!! I do want to get into more manga. I really wanna see your manga shelves!! Please do a tour and an updated bookshelf tour :D Ps you're awesome!
Thanks for this video, it was super helpful! I bought my first manga recently and can't wait to get more. Got a slighter better idea of what's out there now ;) also I looooove the top you're wearing!
Thanks for the explanations. I can see where it would be confusing. I loved the Boys Over Flowers show and didn't realize it was a manga! Yeah, need to get on that now...
Yeah!!! Most anime is also manga (and if it's not, they usually adapt it afterwards) and I love it because it always continues on for longer so you don't have to leave the characters once the show ends
I adore manga! I collect it! Currently at around 600 volumes. Magical girls are my favourite genre! Cardcaptor Sakura was one of the first anime series that I got into as a kid. I'm super excited to get the English version of the new manga when it comes out this year! Paradise Kiss, Princess Jellyfish, Nana, Black Butler, Blue Exorcist, Food Wars, Kimi ni todoke, Naruto, Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew, Love Hina, Ouran High School Host Club, Black Cat, D Gray Man, Attack on Titan, One Piece, Oreimo, Bakuman, Death Note, Vampire Knight and Shugo Chara are just ones off the top of my head that I love! Funny enough harem manga was the first genre that I got into when I started reading manga! I was so happy to finish collecting Love Hina! I got the reprinted ones a couple of years ago! I think I've been reading manga over 10 years now!
Naruto is my fave, as you know! I am so obsessed (and blame Macky completely) with the world and stories and characters. And I’ve been loving Bleach as well, though I’m not too fond of the storytelling style all the time. Love that you did this video! It makes things clearer for someone like me who is quite new to actually reading manga.
Shueisha's 1966 Shonen Book introduced Mach GoGoGo, known to us as Speed Racer. Tatusuo Yoshida brought us the mange series and made the jump to TV as an anime series in 1967. Yoshida idea was to put Elvis Presley in James Bonds Aston Martin from Goldfinger. Outside of Steve McQueen , this was was the epitome of early 60s cool...
I tend to like mahou shoujo, shoujo, Yuri/shoujo-ai, and slice-of-life manga best. Not that I never read any shounen or Yaoi/shounen-ai titles, though.... I just lean more towards things aimed at women. Which series' would you say are your favorite? Which would you recommend?
Super Space Chick I really like Wataru Yoshizumi (Marmalade Boy, Ultra Maniac, etc.) and Naoko Takeuchi (Sailor Moon, PQ Angels, The Cherry Project, etc.) as far as fave mangaka go. And, Mayu Shinjo's works (Kaikan Phrase, Demon Love Spell, Love Celeb, Haou Airen, Ai Ore!, etc.) are wonderful, too - as long as you enjoy smut/ecchi series. As for series by other mangakas, I really enjoy Kamisama Kiss, Fruits Basket, LDK, Dengeki Daisy, Say I Love You, Bleach, Fairy Tail, Nichijou, and all things CLAMP (CardCaptor Sakura, Tsubasa, Chobits, Angelic Layer, Magic Knight Rayearth, Kobato, etc.).
@@HollyLetson In Contrast, I currently read One Piece, My Hero Academia, and Berserk. I have read quite a bit of Shonen and Seinen like Dragon Ball, Full Metal Alchemist, Assasnation Classroom, Akira just to name a few
where did you buy those beautiful books over your right shoulder by the beauty and the beast figures?? they are stunning but I am not sure where everyone buys books with those beautiful bindings
I haven't read manga in a long time. I still watch lots of anime but I've haven't been reading manga lately. I'd like to get back into it. I'm thinking of reading cardcaptor Sakura, it's still one of my favourite animes and I've never read it. Plus cardcaptor Sakura clear card is a brand new manga, which means more Sakura and Syaoran, and hopefully more Toya and Yue, and Toyomo.
YES!!! I'm so excited about the new Cardcaptor manga too. There's this BEAUTIFUL artbook at Kinokuniya that has a ton of full page color illustrations of Cardcaptor and I want it so badly but $$$$$
I have been loving the graphic novel series Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi. I couldn't find anything else quite like it. Can you please recommend some comics/graphic novels or even books like it? If you've read it of course :-) :-)
Yes! I remember you talking about that! I'm probably going to film my answers for your tag once I finish my Sailor Moon rewatch and move on to Cardcaptor!
nice video! I have been reading Manga for years and didn't know this. I tend toward titles like attack on Titan and death note (lots of action) but recently picked up sailor moon based on your videos.
I actually just started reading Sailor Moon today! I am liking it so far. Different than what I normally read. Have you read Flying Witch? Love it. I tried watching Death Note anime on Netflix and I just can't get into it but I am not an anime person. I love manga more!
I really loved this video! I just think that maybe you should put some images, you know? I think it would make easier for people to understand what you're saying if you illustrated it, like with the cover of the mangas, etc. Oh, it would be fantastic if you could do a manga bookshelf tour! (ᵔᴥᵔ)
When it comes to manga the cutesy romance's and the slice of life are the best. I love shojo and basically the other genres you liked as well. Which is so strange for me cause when I'm reading novels I hate those kinds of books. Contemporary romance is like my least favorite type of book, I like horror and sci fi more lol
As the term Shonen (or Shounen) means “boy” the actual targeted demographic is primarily teenage boys. The confirmed age range is 12 to 18 years. So that’s why. So when they say boys they don’t mean boys of all ages. But for some reason they tend to not be very specific. But it makes sense why they are primarily aimed towards teenage boys cuz 90% of Shonen manga has teen boys as the main protagonist and that’s traditional as it makes the protagonist relatable to the targeted readers. I mean yes the magazine was popular with audiences under 12 and such but that doesn’t change the demographic that the magazine is targeted towards. Kids would read anything regardless if it was aimed towards them or not. Kids in America read Hellboy. No joke. Also teenagers are kids to adults so the term kid is often used to loosely. But regardless the targeted demographic for shonen manga are boys ages 12 to 18. Serveral source book in both Japanese and English agree with this. Even numerous websites. tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ShonenDemographic?from=Main.Shonen en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shōnen_manga books.google.com/books?id=E03KBgAAQBAJ&q=Teenage+readers#v=snippet&q=Shonen&f=false books.google.com/books?id=uY8700WJy_gC&pg=PA1&source=gbs_toc_r&cad=4#v=snippet&q=Twelve%20&f=false geekandsundry.com/an-introduction-to-manga/ manga.yoexpert.com/types-of-manga-10465/what-are-the-different-types-of-manga-43730.html www.hxchector.com/anime-and-manga-types/ simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shōnen_(media) www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=manga

Super Space Chick yay!!! I have very similar tastes to the manga you've shown and read in other videos so I'm exited to see it (and also your magical girl wands!! Haha)
I LOVE ❤️ your dress! I have been wanting to get more into Manga lately, so this is very helpful !
Well, that was fun! I really enjoy your views on comics & manga. I would love it you made more videos like this:)
Thanks! I try to. I still have an NYCC haul and vlog that I haven't uploaded >.
Loved this! I just got into anime, so now I'm looking for a good place to start with manga. Reverse harem sounds like my cup of tea haha
4:08 wait i can’t tell did you say shonen? i thought that shonen was anime directed towards boys but OHSHC and Fruits Basket are more shojo no?
LOVE THE SHELVES this way! They are warmer looking like this. Thanks for sharing some manga wisdom! ;) Besides being a huge Hayao Miyazaki fan, I am totally a stranger in the Manga world.
Thank you! For this now I know what genre to pick!
I love Sailor Moon, Attack on Titan, Vampire Knight and One Piece!!!! I do want to get into more manga.
I really wanna see your manga shelves!! Please do a tour and an updated bookshelf tour :D
Ps you're awesome!
I'm planning on doing both! And a Harry Potter bookshelf tour now that that's in its own area!
Thanks for this video, it was super helpful! I bought my first manga recently and can't wait to get more. Got a slighter better idea of what's out there now ;) also I looooove the top you're wearing!
Such a great video! While i have read a lot of manga, i didn't know all of this! I usually just read what looks good. :)
That's how I usually judge too!
Thanks for the explanations. I can see where it would be confusing. I loved the Boys Over Flowers show and didn't realize it was a manga! Yeah, need to get on that now...

Ugh wish I had known because a few years back I went through some serious BOF withdrawal after bingeing.
Loved this

Yes! I remember you talking about that! I'm probably going to film my answers for your tag once I finish my Sailor Moon rewatch and move on to Cardcaptor!
I can't remember if I ever sent the tag to you?
I've never read this genre! This was really interesting... looks like I need to take a trip to my library
There are such fun stories in manga
I wish there was the Japanese word for each on the screen because I wasn’t sure of the spelling of the few of them. But great resource!
nice video! I have been reading Manga for years and didn't know this. I tend toward titles like attack on Titan and death note (lots of action) but recently picked up sailor moon based on your videos.
