  • I learned this tune from The Bothy Band and have been playing it with my band lately ( • Waterfalls/Give Us a D... if you're curious) and it felt like a good one use in a a deep dive on variations on the Irish wooden flute. Lemme know what you think.

Awesome. First, I LOVE how you don't start things off by giving us a bunch on your bio. You don't even tell us your name!!! That's awesome. And, you don't do the obligatory "hit the like button, ring the bell, subscribe....and my Patreon site is, blah blah blah stuff. How refreshing is that!?
Of COURSE I'm going to learn more about you because you're OBVIOUSLY a fantastic trad flute player. I also REALLY appreciate how kind you are with giving us all the gear you use. I personally don't need to know that but the fact that you're offering it up for free is really cool of you.
Do you talk anywhere about how you approach variations in general (as opposed to just for this particular tune)?
    Keep up the great work!!!!!

    Very nice, as always!
Here is a request/suggestion for a future flute or whistle tune: The Boy(s) on the Hilltop.

I like this slip jig! Your flute with keys has a rubber band in the D# key, maybe it doesn't close well?

It fell off the roof of my car and that key needs a new spring, which I haven't gotten around to getting repaired - so the rubber band does the job :)

Love the sound of the flute! By the way, it's hard to find information on this subject so I'd love to see you compare something like the plastic Dixon flute to a more expensive one. I've seen people say they don't like it but I never know why. Is it the tone or is it difficult to play perhaps? If you ever happen to get your hands on one of those Dixons I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

That's a great idea, I've never actually played one of the plastic/delrin flutes that are available these days. I played a Carbony carbon fiber one once that I enjoyed (and almost bought) but I'll have to see what I can track down, as I'm definitely curious about those other options!
