Jay Clark is the king on RUclips in motocross mechanics
🤫
Always thought his name was Jay Valdovinos (Maybe 'Clark' is his 'Stage Name').
Wow! I just found (I'm sure he wasn't lost) this guy. Been riding and racing for 50 years. I never knew how ignorant i am. Great vid's keep em coming. 👍👍👍
I never had a Pappi either Jay.... That's why I watch these videos, so I can teach my son...
This guy is awesome my first time watching and tuning in as newbie dirt biker but been riding bikes for 35 years this is great stuff and a great tech I’m learning a lot from him keep it going fella
Dude I love this guy .. straight to the point!
Absolute wizard when it comes to the bikes.. proper old school mechanic!!
i have told many riders about leaving the lever perch a little loose, so on impact, the lever will rotate on the bar, instead of breaking. like your videos mate. peace
The energy and effort of this guys is amazing.... 👍🔥
Thank you 🙌
Another good trick with the Ktm and husky when doing an oil change is that when you drain the screen or the oil filter that you can wrap a little bit of aluminum foil around the frame so it doesn’t get all over the fram and flows right into the oil drain instead of making a mess
Thanks dude, thats really good thinking
Good idea with the hole in the grease can, the grease on the brake reservoir bolts, fluid in a squeeze bottle, etc. good tips here for sure no matter how long you’ve been working on bikes. Thanks for the knowledge!
Jay - you’re the man. Solid videos. Always super informative. We appreciate all the insider pro tips you throw in along the way.
Ride on 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Great video guys. I always see guys with bikes who buy aftermarket parts to make their bike look cool or perform better but never do any maintenance. So instead of servicing suspension, engine, or brakes they throw parts at it to try to compensate for degraded performance. These guys need to watch your videos.
I need a guy like this in my shed!
Best content on RUclips/instagram I’ve ever come across. To the point and cutting the fat! It’s obvious you love your job Jay I’ve become a big fan over the last month or so.
Thanks!!
If he were close, i would drop my bike off.
well filmed, well commented, natural ...
Nice ;)
I use a couple of wraps of Teflon thread tape under all of my clamp-on bar controls. It lets you crank the bolts down a little more snug but the parts will still rotate in a crash.
Man you must've had 4-Redbulls before this.
LOL FOREALL BRO SOO HYPEDDD
That’s how he is all the time lmao gotta be addy lol
He’s like that squirrel from Over the Hedge. We’re all going in slow mo and he’s riding circles around us. 😂
Thanks Jay!
i always put air filter oil in a plastic shopping bag and kneed it around inside the bag first then put filter in bag and it very evenly disperses the oil into filter NICE LITTLE TIP FOR U TO TRY
You are the man! Great content as always!
These videos are right to the point which is what I like. Just give me the knowledge and keep it moving.
My boys are just getting into mx. So these videos are amazing thank you. 🙏 💪💪
14.00 *Japanese* screws are often a specialized size, getting the correct tool for the screw results in less stripping - yes they do 'stick' but I have found that people who use the incorrect tool often strip more often than those that use the correct tool
My favorite part was the scene at the end with 10k Compact Discs on the shelve in the background. Retro theme garage in full effect. Jay must have joined the BMG Music Club as many times as I did to get those 12 discs for a penny
Me Too, and GW stores. I have 10k also.
Very useful video. Love to expand my maintenance knowledge👍🏻
Master cylinder torx nuts are easiest bolt to strip on the ktm. Great tip with grease! All your other tips I've learned the hard way haha
The Japanese bikes do not have philips screws on the brake cover, they have JIS (Japanese industry standard) use the right tools on them then you do not need to drill them out ;)
Just reading this as I fucked them up last weekend :D
the new ones actually have phillips. They havent used JIS for the cam-out reason in many years
Love these videos and just so much knowledge. Definitely helps me out and great tips.
Glad to hear it!
Such good content jay , you do everything the right way and explain everything so well! Absoloute legend keep em comin 🙌
Hes a pro hes very good at teaching wish he had a dirt bike boot camp lol
More good tips. Thanks Jay! 👍🏽
Inspired to work thru my entire bike. Great content!
Awesome! Thank you!
Some great tips man well done!
I find with the vacuum bleeder keep it on sucking and slowly tighten the brake calliper bleeder nipple when new fluid is coming through.
You will never have to manually pump and hold the lever ever again and never have to reverse bleed. Absolute Rock solid lever everytime.
Works perfectly for bleeding hydraulic clutch also. Dirt bikes and sport bikes.
Also try the bellray filter oil it doesn't run out of the air filter it stays in.
Thank you! I love watching your channel!!
Good stuff! Just bought my first katoom 20 350xcf learnin some good stuff
Loves these videos can learn a lot from it keep the videos coming with all different kinds of bike 👍🤜🔥🔥
Super useful! Thank you and keep
Making these great vids
Excellent video.
One of the best.
Thank you.
I use my knee to push. I put on my knee pad and use my knee put push the caliper in. Works great on the trail or at a gas stop. If you drag brakes the 25 dollar bottle works well on the rear. I don't, but I use cheaper and bleed often. Use a hand mighty vac, but just bought a hand pump pressure bleeder for my truck to replace the MC. Will have to test that out. Also, when tie the handle to bar turn the bars so the MC is higher than the hoop.
Great informative vlog! Thank you from the UK!
Excellent Video!! Need a tone more!! next time please do a 2022 KTM SXF 450!🔥🔥🔥
Also quick tip guys, early 2000's ktm 450s also did drain oil out the back
Appreciate the vids, Jay! Thanks
Great content, my friend. My husky thx you.
Jay I appreciate your valuable information for the upkeep on these bikes. A quick question. Which type / brand of hex wrench / t bar tools do you use? . I'd love to work on my bikes with them. Cheers mate 🙏🏼
Great video with some great tips!
Glad it was helpful!
I've prob watched this video 5x. Very satisfying
HAHAHAHAHA The 25$ DOT 4 just had me dying JAY !!!!!!! LOL
Goto Amazon and get a "Vessel Megadora" JIS Screwdriver. They won't round out the "phillips" on the Japanese bikes. They are cut differently than standard phillips drivers.
The calipers usually tilt a little which make it hard to measure both side equally. The difference could be 1mm or so.
Awesome vid. Thank you
Love the videos on Instagram and RUclips!!!😝👍🤘🏍💨
Thanks!
Awesomeness!
i love buying the small expensive bottles of honda dot 4 fluid lol always fresh. and im not a fan of ur greade tubs having the lids open to let dust in there. i learned allot from u guys tho ,good work and video overall 👍
Awesome video!
Great advice Jay and thank you for sharing it! BTW, you got a link to that beaker?
I love the expensive brake fluid comment Jay! Lol
You started to explain that you don't warm up the engine before you drain the oil. But you got over it in a second. ;-) So why don't you warm up the engine? I don't do it too. In my theory the oil is already down in the engine so why should I pump it around before I want to drain it.
Yes that is the same reason--its all down there- -I do my cars cold when I can as well-
Fantastic
Awesome! Love it guys!
Great video! Can you overfill the oil a bit on a 2019+ KX450?
Manual suggests putting some oil in with the filter.
I over filled once because of the manual. Mine said fill the filter and half fill the housing with the bike on its side...then ADD 1100ml of oil in the engine. I triple checked and that’s how it was worded in the manual. Way too much!
@@deanowilliams6400 I add some of my 1450ml to the filter housing and run my bike for a bit to get accurate oil reading. 1500ml is too much as the manual says. But better not to starve the engine from oil to be on the safe side.
yes not a bad idea--
I do prefer change brake dluid from botton to up
Nice work guy,s excellent info
Man I need to use more grease haha but seriously this was a great video
Super cool video, thanks.
Glad you liked it!
“I wash myself with a rag on a stick”😂😂😂
Best video s
You are awesome !
Great video. Who did the graphics on the bike? Love the look
Decal Works--
@@dirtbiketv1 awesome thanks!
Hello, I have a 2018 fc250. I am a fan of your channel. I am in Thailand. My fc250 has a problem. The spark plug has no spark, causing my fc250 to not start. Can you advise me which device is broken? Thank you.
Great video 🍻
Thanks 👍
13:52 Japanese bike has JIS heads not(!) Phillips. They look alike but aren’t the same.
People using Phillips bits and drivers are usually why they breaks.
If you work a lot on Japanese bikes, get yourself a JIS-kit of bits.
Great Video! I have an 06-07 Honda CRF250r... Couple things... I don't use grease on the base of my air filter. Just UNI Foam Oil. Should I use grease? Secondly, how often and whats the best method of checking and tightening spokes?
Thanks!
Thanks- No grease- For more tech info go to my Instagram- -go to the IGTV and then go to Tech Series-- scroll through there and a few videos on spokes and many other items
opps @dirtbiketv1
Dang it I was hoping you'd show how to put a sticker on to make it look like I had expensive parts on my bike
My KTM Fork clam bolts are naked 17/12 NM
good video. Could you tell me how the racetech single-sided spring conversion works? Kind regards from Guadalajara Mexico I follow your videos are very good.
It's good
You know damn right =) Thank You =)
Cool husky
I know the 03 kx250 was kinda a one off unicorn bike for a lot of parts. How about the 125?
Email Jay. Contact info in About tab.
Where do you get them shirts from, I love em
Rados's like just spit on it ... rule of thumb
I’d rather a tiny bit of oil stays in the bike than turn it over when empty.
Reminds me of Peter griffin on redbull
Looks like you squeezed all the oil out of the air filter. I like to have a little more oil.
The ktm's are not held down from the top of filter, that's why I like to put grease on the base.
isnt it risky to touch the metal frame and the positive terminal at the same time
?
How much transmission oil do you normally get out of a 2020+ KTM 300? I believe manual says it takes 800mL but I’ve only ever seen 720-760 mL drain out. I know some remains in the engine just curious exactly how much you are you draining and putting back in? I never know if 720 is too little or if 770 is too much...
We do 800
@@jayclark5331 isnt it impossible to get all of the oil out though? meaning that if you put 800 in then you are really *above* 800 in actuality which is above the recommendations? i bought a brand new bike in year 2021 (300) and only drained 720 mL out of it after bringing it home...other videos on youtube confirmed they also drained only 720mL and then verified fullness using the spill bolt on the side confirming that about 80mL always remains inside despite full draining procedures...so ive just been adding back 720mL not the 800....any thoughts?
What do you think of the spray on air filter oils ? Vs the standard liquid type
Great Video, but you missed explanation of cable tie front brake ?
there is another video Jay did about this somewhere on RUclips. He basically cable ties the front brake lever tight overnight so any remaining air will make its way up to the reservoir
Sorry for that-- lets the brake bleed over night--
where do you get the VP decals for the gas tank?
What temperature do you set your radiator fan to turn on at? I have a XCW 250 TPI
180 good place to start -- email if any other questions --
how often should he be changing the oil on that bike? hours miles?
Email Jay directly with any questions. Contact info in About tab.
God Dan your good
Cold oil change?
Vacula I like that👌
What do you recommend for oil volume when changing YZ250f. We have 2019 and 2021 bikes. The manual is not very specific
850 when do filter - 810 or so without
Hey Jay, what torque wrench do you use/recommend?
Snap ON-- but there are good ones much cheaper-- just check it once every year or two vs a good newer one to make sure its still accurate
Hi can I ask u I have a ktm sxf 250 cc 4 stroke race tech engine 2011 model when I rev it up it starts dieing and splutters the idle is on my choke do u think if I turn idle up a bit could that help as I’ve got it set running low I don’t have a oil filter on mine
"I didn't really have a pappy" emo mechanic swag
How much you guys run in YZ450FX
I put dot 3 in my RMZ 250 but it call 4 the. 4 do I need to drain that I don't race and keep my brakes up I just trail ride 3 okay or will it ruin my brakes
