I absolutely LOVE how much of a partnership the 2 of you are. So kind, respectful, loving & funny you are with each other. What a beautiful example of how a married couple should be.
So sorry to hear about Miss Lewis’ babies. 😢 It was so sweet seeing Ozella over there with like you said consoling her. ❤ Hopefully next year her babies will be able to avoid any predators. God bless y’all! ❤
Love yall! Excited to see what's in store with paddoks, barns, get donkeys, and watch the animals grow learn and change! Feels like we are on this journey together. I get so pumped up about my Cog Hill Farm!
Brooke is especially good-hearted… I felt like crying about the peahen babies too… Jason is a warm-hearted man that listens to Brooke AND offers great ideas as well…
I admire the support and respect always evident when Brooke and Jason work together. Such a dynamic, caring couple. It's obvious where MaryCarl's temperament and willingness to learn and grow as an intelligent, compassionate person originated. Add the beloved animals - who could ask for more? Definitely not me.
The farm continues to come together day by day even though there's losses in the natural order of things, it's all for our learning and I am sure that even the animals like the Peacock Hen's that get hatch eggs sorta in the wild will become even more aware of the natural predators. May you all continue to experience success in all that you are doing. GOD bless you.
I was thinking the same thing. I've been searching for Magellan shirts ever since I saw Jason wearing them. They look so comfortable and I know they must be cooler than regular shirts with the air vents in the back. I want them even more now that I see the women's shirts and how pretty they are. Brooke, where do you buy them? You guys should put a link on your Amazon page so you can get a commission.
@@MrsMommy001 Academy online has them too. And the Columbia fishing shirts are very similar. They run. Between 19.99 & UP. They are quick dry material too. I wear them a lot. They have sleeveless, cap sleeve, short sleeve & long sleeves. They are awesome! Some of their product has UV protection. Just don't use fabric softener on any of them too keep them wrinkle free. (Edited to correct spelling errors 😁)
I saw a guy that changed to sand for the chickens. At first he got a piece of hardware cloth and attached it to a pitchfork to use to sift out the droppings. Then he found a square nose shovel that has a bunch of holes and it works great to get the droppings out. Kinda like a scoop for kitty liter.
My great aunt did something similar. She had a tiny coop that used sand in. She put a big old, slotted spoon on a broom handle, so she didn't have to bend over to scoop poops. It worked out real nice for her.
We switched over to sand 5 years ago and at first, I was scooping but a hip replacement meant that was impossible but it turns out it was unnecessary. My chickens do all their dust bathing in there and scratching around turns it over and their poop dries out so completely there is no build-up or smell. I have heard people replace their sand yearly and that is also unnecessary. I got creek sand from my mulch person delivered to the house and it works perfectly, maybe because it is a natural thing it helps compost their poop.
I noticed the other day when you were de-worming Paris, Mildred was very concerned and watching very closely what you were doing with her little buddy 🥰. You guys have some great plans for the farm, it will be fun to watch it evolve. Thanks for sharing the video
@Southside Carly - Thanks for mentioning this. I went back & looked. Sure enough, she stood there right next to Jason until they let Paris go. So sweet! :o)
I have used sand for my chickens coop and run for several years. I won’t go back it works so great! I recommend not spending so much money on the bags but rather build a 8x4 box with removable lid to keep it out of the rain (it rains a lot where I live) and buy a half ton or more at a time. That may reduce the cost of bedding 75% and not needing to haul the heavy bags around
@granitestater1029 Check out rock and sand companies in your area. They sell mostly to construction and landscaping businesses. We have several in our area
@@marylouise890 sand product varies greatly. I had 3 types of sand to choose from. The sand I bought was a bit course and didn’t have dust in it. It wasn’t washed and is made of sand and tiny stones. If it has clay or dirt in the sand not only will it be dusty, it will also bind and compact with droppings on the floor
Thanks for sharing the big, big plans for your animals. I feel I've a better idea how BIG they are after Brooke's tour. :o) Love sweet Mildred's relationship with the goaties, especially Paris. Arlo is such a sweetheart! Sorry about Miss Lewis' babies. Glad she's ok. Take care of your precious selves! :o)
Y'all just make my heart happy. Unfortunately Mother Nature can be a pain in the patootie but like you said a year's worth of wise makes for a different outcome ❤🙏

You might want to check out (the chicken chick) she explains it all on her website. She uses a kitty litter scoop and cleans them out daily. Only takes 5 minutes.
The chicken chick uses builder grade sand, which is multi sized, so it doesn’t compact which will make it easier to use a pooper scooper to pick up droppings. Also keeps the coop drier
I am searching for the words to tell you that you all are just the the best & I just cannot figure out why you don't have a million subscribers God bless your gentle hearts big
When I put sand in chicken pen I found kept there feet clean I went in everyday when feed them with a dog scoop with the holes in it scoop up the poop work really well I liked it didn’t look back love watching you try to never miss Marie
Our Wyoming Life put rubber on their hen house floor then they put down sand. they got special rakes that sifts the sand from the sand. They showed cleaning it and they were very happy with it.😃❤❤👩👩👧👦👨👦🐣🐤🦃🦃
You guys should install some wireless cameras at the edge of the woods that would be activated by movement. This would allow you to see any wild animals lurking at night near the farm. This would help you to make some steps to prevent any future "accidents." A while ago I sent you a long email with a bunch of YT videos that show a whole camera and WiFi system that you can even remotely control when you are away from the farm. You could reach out to the company to sponsor you by giving you some hardware. They have a whole hardware "ecosystem." You are a perfect pick for them:).
All those beautiful chicken feathers y’all have. I saw a golden one on the ground. Maybe if Mary Carl collected them she could sell them online for crafts & art. They are expensive in craft shops 🤔Just a idea. I love ❤️ feather’s. 😁❤️🐔🐣🤷♀️
When you are through with your builds you will be covering alot of distance from one sight to the next. I think I see a new farm vehicle in your future. I love what you have done and enjoy hearing all of your future plans!
YES on the Rhode Island Reds! 50 years ago they were my starter chickens. Raised 6 form chicks and those girls were prolific layers. That was Maryland where we could get 24" of snow in 24 hours. Glad you don't have to shovel a path several times in one day to carry unfrozen water to the barn. AND, I suggest a metal litter scoop with a wood handle. Much better than the plastic ones, found mine on Amazon. Excited to hear your pasture and barn plans, all sound very good. Donkeys are a hoot, never had my own but should be fun.
Hearing Miss Lewis has lost all of her babies just breaks my heart ,im so so sorry they didnt make it ,Sand is a great thing for Chickens i use one called silver sand its almost white have done for years makes life easier and chickens love it i use a snow shovel plastic one drilled some holes and its the best tool i have for clean out days ,Arlo looks so cute with his new hair do ,prayers for everyone especially those in the path of Hurricane Ian 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💕👋
Your plans sound wonderful! Sorry for the loss of the peachicks, I know it's hard to let nature take its course, but you are right in doing so. I also agree with the Rhode Island Reds! Oh the memories! I had a hen named Chookie. Every time she saw me, she'd start cluckin' calling to me. Her wings would go out a flappin' and she would race to jump up in my lap. Watching a chicken joyfully run across the yard to get to you is a wonderful thing !! Those are good memories that brought a tear to my eye. Thank you!
Loved the sand idea❣️ very clever and I think it’ll also keep the smell down. I really like all your ideas for the future barn and buildings for the animals. But I love the most is how you guys talk things out and come up with Plans you can agree upon!! I also love how you guys finish each other sentences or say the same thing in agreement. I know some lady commented about how she didn’t like that but I think that is a sign of a couple who knows each other well and each others opinions well & are so closely connected, they do it automatically without even realizing it!💕To me it is love in action and your relationship is so special to be, envied, not to be criticized! I can’t believe you were into the chicken coop checking on the sand and there was two baby chickens underneath at hen. Of course, we couldn’t see them as they were all black, but still just knowing they were there it was exciting. They pull a fast one on you guys😁♥️♥️ Brooke, you’ve been looking very good lately if we don’t all say so!… I think it’s a combination of your blouses and the bright colors they are, and maybe the style too, but either a haircut or the way you’re wearing your hair. But you’re looking fine and I just wanted to say so❣️❣️Jason your smile always is wonderful and we love you guys and will see you on the next video♥️♥️♥️😊
Jason and Brooke use a kitty litter scoop to pick up sift and throw away poop each day. Sand dries up poop and sifting it out , throwing away eliminates oders especially if you scrape off of roosts and walls.
Rhode Island Reds are great chickens. Had a mother bantam that went clucky after she laid 4 or 5 eggs but no rooster. Friends gave us 5 fertile RIR eggs and we put her on them. She hatched them out and it was so funny to see the little bantam mothering and bossing her large red chicks. The reds were great birds for us. Hope you get some so I can see the breed on your channel.

Hi Sheryl. I designate myself Grannie Cyndy from South Australia! Great to meet you here! All the very best for following such a wholesome video. Hey, do you know of any Aussie people doing the same thing. I'd be an avid follower. 🇦🇨
I read your comment and thought to myself. They are never going to name a chicken after me. Two minutes later Jason says " were going to have to get Bobby out of here" Close enough!
Hi Sheryl! My name is Sheryl too. I thought they named that chicken after me! Lol. Not often you hear that name and even less often spelled like we do!
Hello Jason, Brooke and Mary Carl It came to thought that it would be super cool to have a Mural of the chickens done on the side of the Cog County School Bus. Love your family and your videos keep up the great work...
Another crazy chicken lady has been using sand for over 10 years and just loves it, I believe she said she rakes it out every day and it's super easy and quick.
Jason, your plans for a barn and up to four pastures sounds wonderful. You and Brooke work so well together. You both make a great team, with MaryCarl's help. Stay well. Blessings to you all. 😍
Moody Moo needs a friend and Miss Mildred too. Cows are herd animals, I thought. You take the BEST of CARE of the animals. You show a lot of love, RESPECT to each other and all the animals. GOD BLESS YOU 🤟🤟 Your very SPECIAL people. AMAZING ❗🀄🀄🀄👍✝️🛐✝️🛐😄😄❤️🥀🌹🏵️🌺🍃🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌷💐🇺🇸🌸💮👍🀄🍃🌺🏵️🍂❤️🥀🌸💮🇺🇸💐🌷🌻🛐✝️😄🇬🇧🇨🇦🇩🇪🇺🇸🤟🌹💯🤟🤟🌹🤟🌼🥀❤️🌷🍃 THANK YOU.
I had a friend who had a huge flock of wild peacocks, that sort of took up residence on her average. They put up pieces of plywood up about 7 ft or so in the lower branches of some of the huge oak trees , the mama's would teach babies to go up at night. She saw a reduction of dead babies.
You guys are giving the momma peachicks the best conditions for having babies the rest is up to them I agree with Brooke , next year she will have more knowledge and will be ready. I'm so sorry she lost all her chicks this year but mother nature has her reasons. Thanks for another great video. Love y'all
My neighbor uses sand for his chicken coop. He absolutely loves it. He says it's very low maintenance and won't go back to using anything other than sand.
I have been using sand for 3 years now but I use construction sand. The research I found said that sand box sand was not good. The construction sand has different size grains that the can use for grit.
Sorry for Miss Lewis's babies....glad the sand is working in the coup. Enjoyed hearing Jason's plans for the big babies. Brooke's fisherman shirt looks very nice! I have one from Academy...cool shirts!
I used it for about three years. Loved it. I used a little courser sand, got it a Home Depot. I just used a long handled cat litter scoop and scooped the poop daily and it stays nice. If you let it go it breaks up and becomes chicken poop dust. Also I had mice tunnel under it. I hate mice.
We use a tray ( built a long tray with vinyl floor)with sand in it underneath the roosting bar and mulch everywhere else. Then we can rake and scoop the sand. Once in awhile we have to add more sand. Makes life so much easier!!
I use bagged sand for my tortoise and will use it for my future chickens coop. You will need to go in there everyday with a rake to get rid of the wetness. Once it’s dry You will be good. This is just my experience, so I don’t get any mold or any kind of rot.
Hi Jason, Brooke and Marycarl. Grannie Cyndy from South Australia here. Just love your family and your lovely animals, especially our Aussie Emu, Nugget. You are such lovely people and so entertaining! Love you heaps.
Jason and Brook love your animals. You’re beautiful flowers can’t wait to see your flowers gardens blooming. If you get Donkeys try to get younger one and they will be very loving to you. Donkeys love attention. My favorite animals❤
Hemp is ideal for bedding Hemp is twice as absorbent than pine shavings. Chicken poop has a tendency to sit on top of pine shavings. Fibers from the hemp bedding help to "wick" out the moisture from the chicken poop. Your chickens will greatly appreciate the softer bedding.
Looks like that sand is going to be great for the chicken coup! I love that you both are always looking for better ways to do things that work better for the animals and you as well. God bless you and all of your wonderful animals! I'm so sorry to hear about Miss Lewis' pea chicks 😥 but we'll stay hopeful for next season.
Sand! What a great idea. We use the wood shavings and I am about over that. Keep us posted on how that sand works. May have to go to Tractor Supply! :) Jason, great idea for the new barn and pastures. Get you some mini donkeys. They are great for predator control. We have them for our goats, they are close to the chicken coop, and our steers and they keep the coyotes away really well. They are so sweet and manageable. We have had two friends that got Mammoth donkeys for their goat herds and have to get rid of them and get minis b/c they killed two goats of one of our friends and the other friends had theirs beat up some of their goats pretty bad. We have had no trouble w/our minis and they are so sweet. Easy for the fairer to handle too. They do best in pairs.
Hey Folks, Here in Maine, we used beach sand for our chicken coop...our flock was small, only 10 hens but those ladies were big poopers... Like you, the shavings were great for the chicks but adult, laying hens really put that product to the curb...I used the sand with D-Earth in their dusting bowls and they were so damn happy...so, I put the sand on the coop floor and the girls were thrilled...shavings at the time were not expensive but then the beach sand was free...yup, I loved the idea and the chickens egg production was not affected one bit...Cheers from Maine
Hate that Ms. Lewis is experiencing the loss of her babies. Hopefully next year she will have better luck. Loved hearing about all your plans for the future. Love the relationship between Mildred and Paris.
Arlo looks some spiffy...he's a handsome boy Brooke, hopefully you might try this suggestion...since the chickens don't bury their treasures, if you got an adjustable lawn rake it might be easier and quicker to rake everything in a pile and then proper scoop...sorry about the peachicks... My goodness you are some busy folk with all your plans and things to do...I wish I had some of your energy...all the clean, good living and awesome support and loving system y'all have...don't ever lose it... Just got through Hurricane Fiona...day 5 with no power...hopefully by Friday...i was lucky and only lost the top off one of my tall maples, but oh my little island and poor city was slammed...a lot lost everything...but we are safe and alive so that's all that matters right now... Bless you folks and have a great day🙂
I love how you two work together and the respect you have for each other. Such an amazing couple you are. I am sorry to hear about loosing the baby peafowl. The sound of the new chicken breed sounds amazing. The Cockerel looks very handsome. Love the colours. Thank you so much for sharing. Love and Blessings to you all. Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘
I'm so sorry ya'll lost your baby peachicks. Hopefully next year she'll be better equipped with the knowledge from this year where not to go. Everyone else looks so good and healthy. The sand looks like it's gunna work fairly well. You should get one of those sifting trays that way you can just shovel a bunch of sand into it then shift the sand out leaving the chicken poo behind. Better than using that small cat spoon. I'd like to see an update later on to see how well the sand actually works❣️
Loved loved loved my 15 Rhode Island Red hens. They were sweet and my Grandchildren played with them. Those 15 hens gave me 15 brown eggs a DAY ! I want more !
Mike at Our Wyoming Life made a shovel screen to clean up the pop. Check it out it's a great idea not to have to bend over on you knees! Love how you guys are always trying to better the way you care for the animals!
Could you put Ozella and Ms Lewis along with Scott in the large covered kennel for those few weeks of breeding/laying season? The long one you kept them in for a few weeks when you moved here. Seems like Mary Carl would know the particulars of breeding season and how long that takes and for the fertilized eggs to come. And you can always look back in your old video's for the date and use that as a guide for when to pen them up. Let Scott out after he does his part, LOL. and while not ideal, it may result in those two mamas laying their eggs in protected shelter. You could even build little nesting areas for them...just a few cheap bushes in pots grouped together, maybe something you find off of Amazon marketplace. Anyway, I have no idea about if this is workable or not but it's been on my mind. Good luck to you!

Hi Sheryl! My name is Sheryl too. I thought they named that chicken after me! Lol. Not often you hear that name and even less often spelled like we do!
I've always wondered how Dolly Parton, Tina Turner, and Phyllis Diller (d) would react to their namesakes.😄😄😄😄
I love listening to Brooke. Her accent sounds so beautiful to me. Jason, your so lucky to hear her everyday.
Hello Jason, Brooke and Mary Carl
It came to thought that it would be super cool to have a Mural of the chickens done on the side of the Cog County School Bus. Love your family and your videos keep up the great work...
Great idea! I bet Mary Carl could paint a beautiful mural.
I totally agree Mary Carl you should paint a beautiful mural on the side of the bus or maybe even in your room ooh that'd be pretty!!!🎨🖌️😘
You can draw me in to the point that I feel like I'm standing right there Do hope the sand works! 💘😻💜💛
Y'all are too cute!!! 🙏💖
They are in a herd with goats 👍
I had a friend who had a huge flock of wild peacocks, that sort of took up residence on her average. They put up pieces of plywood up about 7 ft or so in the lower branches of some of the huge oak trees , the mama's would teach babies to go up at night. She saw a reduction of dead babies.
Good Morning Cog Hill and Cog Squad!!! It’s another great day!!! Rainy here in Fl but still a great day……for ducks🐬🦢🦢🦢🦢
Sand is the way to go. Been using it for 8 years. Easy to rake up poop and keeps coop dry.
I feel the same about Buff Orppingtons. They're my go-to breed.
Still love watching yous for UK see animals get up to mischief and yous dancing
Love that color on you Brooke.
Sands gonna work.
Thanks for the update.
Same here
.good info. So much easier...
Sorry for Miss Lewis's babies....glad the sand is working in the coup. Enjoyed hearing Jason's plans for the big babies. Brooke's fisherman shirt looks very nice! I have one from Academy...cool shirts!
Sand is the way to go! I use a slotted scoop on a long pole to scoop up the poop…. Like scooping kitty litter.
Chicken dust is dangerous for the lungs. 😢
We use a tray ( built a long tray with vinyl floor)with sand in it underneath the roosting bar and mulch everywhere else. Then we can rake and scoop the sand. Once in awhile we have to add more sand. Makes life so much easier!!
Arlo's lookin' Dapper! He has a great beautician ☺️. So happy the sand is working out, too!
The future barn idea is perfect. 🥰
I use bagged sand for my tortoise and will use it for my future chickens coop. You will need to go in there everyday with a rake to get rid of the wetness. Once it’s dry You will be good. This is just my experience, so I don’t get any mold or any kind of rot.
You know, I was just thinking about Ms Lewis and the peachicks, how sad. Fly high little babies, for the short time you were here, you were so loved.
Hi Jason, Brooke and Marycarl.
Grannie Cyndy from South Australia here.
Just love your family and your lovely animals, especially our Aussie Emu, Nugget. You are such lovely people and so entertaining!
Love you heaps.
I love your plans for Moody and Mildred and the goats-and who doesn’t love donkeys? ❤❤❤
Using 2 shovels, one to rake the droppings into a bottom shovel really speeds clean up time
Jason and Brook love your animals. You’re beautiful flowers can’t wait to see your flowers gardens blooming. If you get Donkeys try to get younger one and they will be very loving to you. Donkeys love attention. My favorite animals❤
Hemp is ideal for bedding
Hemp is twice as absorbent than pine shavings.
I'll be interested to see how the sand works with the chickens! Little Arlo looks so cute with his haircut!
Construction grade sand (quartz free) works great, mKe it as deep as you can, clean the poop up with a kitty litter scoop, your going to love it
Sand! What a great idea. We use the wood shavings and I am about over that. Keep us posted on how that sand works. May have to go to Tractor Supply! :)
Jason, great idea for the new barn and pastures.
Like you, the shavings were great for the chicks but adult, laying hens really put that product to the curb...I used the sand with D-Earth in their dusting bowls and they were so damn happy...so, I put the sand on the coop floor and the girls were thrilled...shavings at the time were not
expensive but then the beach sand was free...yup, I loved the idea and the chickens egg production was not affected one bit...Cheers from Maine
That beautiful blue sky is awesome today
My Granny’s yard was all sand in Bibb County, Alabama. Her chickens free ranged. Had to clean between toes quite often in the summer! 🤣💖🇺🇸
Rhode Island reds what we had on the farm. Great, hearty, egg layers confirmed! Thank you for sharing....
Hate that Ms. Lewis is experiencing the loss of her babies. Hopefully next year she will have better luck. Loved hearing about all your plans for the future. Love the relationship between Mildred and Paris.
When cleaning the bantam cage with sand put the sand in garden area to loosen the ground. It works great
Arlo looks some spiffy...he's a handsome boy
Brooke, hopefully you might try this suggestion...since the chickens don't bury their treasures, if you got an adjustable lawn rake it might be easier and quicker to rake everything in a pile and then proper scoop...sorry about the peachicks...
I hope the sand helps. Looks good.
Aww I feel bad for miss Lewis, at least she survived whatever happened to the chicks. One day y'all are going to see Paris hitchin' a ride on Mildred!
Love Harlow's haircut, so handsome, good morning 🌅🌄 Brooke and Mary Carl
Good morning from Coastal Georgia Zone 8B!
Wishing everyone a blessed and safe day and balance of week. 😊
Loved loved loved my 15 Rhode Island Red hens. They were sweet and my Grandchildren played with them. Those 15 hens gave me 15 brown eggs a DAY ! I want more !
I would like to see Mary Carol raise chickens in the incubators again. That was a good time on your channel
Sounds like building the barn is the most logical next step to all the plans going forward. I look forward to seeing all the progress.
Got my ocffee and enjoying the show!! Much love squaders!!
PS: loved the sunset 🌇 view& loving Paris and Mildred being BFF's 💕💗such a sweet couple! Happy the sand is a 10 (so far)🤩
