A great teacher in a second choice style is better than a meh teacher in your dream style, imho.

I don't know how strong pro player's kicks. But as a taekwondo learner. I know how dangerous 100% kick is. So everyone in my gym, never kick others in 100% power. Even if it's a competition.

taekwondo is a point fighting sports meaning that most contact results in a point, this mean that a lot of the time their hands are low because with high guard the body is easy to kick resulting in point ( even if the kick doesn't hurt or only just lands it still counts ) and with a lower guard it is easy to swat away kicks and most head kicks aren't too hard to spot coming. As well as this in WTF style taekwondo you can only punch to the body once with your back hand, meaning that head kicks can be avoided by turning away and leaning because there is no fear of the opponent closing in and punching. Hope this explains why the hands are so low

I have trained with and fought European and world champions and Ireland’s Olympic fighter, and after all this I haven’t been kicked that hard . The hardest kick I’ve ever taken was off a k1 fighter in mma. Taekwondo fighters don’t really kick hard not because they can’t but because there isn’t really a reason to as it is a point fighting sport.

Я занимался лет десять таеквон-до, еще в те времена , когда он был намного жестче , и мне попадали так по голове может 3-4 раза, сейчас работаю в финансах, и университет закончил на отлично. Плюс сегодняшнее ТДК на много мягче , чем лет 10-20 назад, и уже язык не поворачиваться называть его боевым единоборством, скорее фехтование ногами. Так что я бы не боялся отправить ребенка на этот спорт. И еще, когда выступают дети, их лица защищены маской. Плюс отличная физуха, растяжка, и уверенность постоять за себя, тем более когда на улице те, кто нападают как правило не спортсмены, а скорее наркоши. А так в любом спорте есть вероятность получить те или иные травмы, и таеквон-до считается статистически не более опасным чем тот же футбол, где можно тоже получить по голове , да еще и твердым ботинком с шипами на подошве

I wiped the floor with a boxer that came to our school to train. And I knocked out a wrestler in high school who picked a fight with me. My coach was a different breed. He took us to open Karate tournaments to compete so we didn't get stuck in just TKD rules. He brought in instructors from other disciplines to train with us. I got my black belt in '87, so this was several years before MMA started in the U.S. My coach was ahead of the curve. The Martial Art doesn't matter as much as the quality of teacher and the dedication of the student. I've known many combat sports competitors in my day and some are just a totally different animal, no matter what style they embrace, they're straight killers.
You're the one who's choosing to only see the violence. They're celebrating the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. There's more respect given by the fighter who knocks out the other on fair terms than by you infantilizing two grown men engaging in consensual combat.
Why theres so many taekwondo knockouts cuz they have shit defense and they drop their hands. These knockout kicks are alot less often in kickboxing cuz better defense and kickboxers keep their hands up.
taekwondo teaches you to keep their hands up. The issue with taekwondo is that a sparring match usually lasts about 3 minutes due to the amount of dodging and sliding required. Taekwondo has much more mobility required, burning your stamina quickly and making you more sluggish. So its actually the people's fault for not keeping their hands up
I do taekwondo and I am taught to keep my hands up to avoid such knockouts, though some people prefer having their hands low for some reasons which results often in situations like this. I don't really know kickboxing all that much but considering its a mix of boxing and kicks, yeah I'd assume there is more blocking compared to taekwondo where we mainly try to dodge if possible
