When Baltimore, I believe, wanted to or planned to, admittedly belatedly, erect a statue of FZ, ol' Gail graciously called it "Too little, too late." What a sweetheart.
@@Zappafantrust That's nice, Baltimore. He died in 1993 after a long battle with cancer. Were it my city, I'd only brag about getting a statue up while he was still alive, but I'm a hard marker.
Zappa had offered to teach at Peabody School of Music for free and they refused. This is how Baltimore responded to its composer. Later on Peabody became a part of Johns Hopkins Univ. So Gail was every bit correct in her response.
@gissellest333 I presume your comment is based on Moon's book where Gail certainly seems to have lost the plot in her final years. But I was there and I saw what a wonderful mother Gail was to Moon and Dweezil, and Moon describes those early days well in her book. But if you have a husband who brings women to his house to sleep with him in another room, imagine the pain that would cause while you're left alone. And it didn't happen once. It happened several times.
Wait till you read Moon's book! It makes my memoir on Frank and Gail's marriage which also includes Frank's infidelity seem like a children's tea party.
@@paulinebutcherbird Very often, how we age on the outside expresses who we are inside. Fact. Weight is also a message. Somatizing. Gail was never fair, as far as I can tell.
Gail was 21 in 1966, old enough to obtain and use birth control without parental approval yet she got pregnant and Zappa "did the right thing" and married her. (His 2nd marriage) Frank was seeing other women at the same time - none of whom became pregnant - which has made me suspicious of Gail's motives. Gail demanded that Frank omit any reference to those other women when writing The Real Frank Zappa. That poor woman and the abuse she took from this narcissist, as noted by their own daughter. Actually, they both neglected all their children and for what, fame, money, and prestige.
@@KevinSisson-b8e It's difficult because Gail suffered hugely from Frank's womanising. She loved him and he treated her badly, although he thought because he was honest and kept her in the loop that it was okay. He didn't seem to realise the pain he was putting her through, although he tried to make up for it by putting her in charge of his business. He said she is the only person I can trust. For a man who considered himself to be "ugly", he sure got his tool well taken care of by women in his youth. Good video for their kids to watch, how mom and dad met, so romantic
Grow up, that's how you were made.
The film of Frank shoving food down her mouth is not romantic!
It’s how so many people get together lol it makes sense for there to have been so many extramarital relationships
By romantic you mean degenerate.
Gail was a honey back then…
And intelligent!
Not sure about the intelligent bit - canny is my word for her. In my book I describe her as having three speeds, slow, very slow and stop.
