Tom probably won't die (most likely he will just be injured) and also people have been having a theory that 50years ago someone in Tom's family killed Maria. This is due to a line Maddie says in the first movie talking about there being a Wachowski protecting green hills for over 50 years and you know what else lasted for over 50 years, Shadow's containment. This would be a perfect idea to raise the stakes and give Sonic even more of a reason to defeat Shadow.
