    Hi Richard wow what a fantastic way to spend evening in a hide, just goes to show it pays to stick with, fantastic footage really impress with the photos and your set up, I must admit I’m just like that waiting for a roe deer i do tend to start taking photos to early,instead of just waiting for them to get nearby, and yes my bloody battery always runs out at the wrong time 😂 even if it’s halfway down just change it note to self must remember that one, that was a fantastic video really enjoyed it thank you for taking the time and sharing it with us. Martyn

      Thanks Martyn, it really does and as you well know it dosen't always work out as a success but it's just great to be out there hoping that something will emerge right in front of you like the Fox did! Such a bonus to see it, shame I didn't get a picture but you can't win them all. It's always good to be prepared ready for that split second moment when the important capture is on the cards. Thanks again R

    Nice work Richard; the great thing about roe is - and in my experience, they are unique among our deer species in doing this - they will always give you a second chance. Even if you get rumbled as you approach an area, it's always worth persevering. I've often found them in small woodlands where foresters have been working all day, or in field-edges where a farmer has been working recently. I put this down to curiosity on their part. Fallow on the other hand....!....if they suss you, it's over...Foxtrot Oscar!

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Ian, they are quite different in habits than other deer species, they seem to always use the same entry and exit points, tracks and areas to feed! I've been working in the woods and have seen them at close range and they've tolerated me and just go about their business. Amazing to share time like that. Love it, FO..... good military term! Cheers R

      @@RichardBirchett Roe are absolutely fascinating aren't they? They are native to our shores (unlike all others but reds) and we should probably really know more about them than we actually do.....their delayed egg implantation is almost unique among UK mammals. They're dainty, in country lore they re known as 'the fairies of the woods' yet, bucks can be extremely aggressive and violent amongst themselves not in-frequently fighting to the death during the rut. From a photography perspective, I'm torn - like you, I've spent hours waiting in ambush; I'm aware though that (what I feel at least) may be my best shots have come from a more nimble 'stalking' approach (with of course the inevitable very high failure rate......I have so many images of white bums disappearing over the horizon!!) I hope you'll make some more videos like this one Richard. Aye, Ian

    Well done Richard, tough one. I think if you had a fluorescent orange tragopan you would have done nearly as well, think you done all the right things, but I think the roe deer demonstrated how well they know their own patch and are so allert to anything new about... all the best as always, Mike...

    Following your recommendation Richard, I bought a Tragopan V6 hide and used it for the first time at a local Barn Owl hotspot on Thursday evening. It is just so easy to set up and take down. The design is so cleaver and the construction, as you said in your review, is of the highest quality. I was wedged in to the edge of a hedgerow and the hide work perfectly as plenty of birds landed right next to the hide without knowing I was there. Unfortunately, no Barn Owls but a very comfortable, invisible 3 hours and easily all packed away in 5 minutes in semi-darkness at the end of the session. I can thoroughly recommend Tragopan products to anyone considering any of them. As always, thanks for the content and do please keep them coming. Best, Steven

    Great stuff again, Richard! I was in a hide last winter when two red deer approached. They were within 20 feet of me when one must have caught my scent and they both legged it. I will never forget the thunder of their hooves as they ran off! 🦌 By the way, when you said “one man with a large prime” I thought you said “large pie”. Reminded me of your pasty…😆

    Great footage again Richard, those roe are looking in fantastic condition!
    I'm looking for a new hide my old one has seen better days and is no longer waterproof, I don't use them much as i prefer to use a gillie suit and blanket, but i'm off to Mull early September and as you know the weather is so changeable i thought i better get a new hide, don't want to go all that way and not be able to get out of the van!!
    I can't make my mind up between this set up or the V6, is there much weight difference between the two? and if push came to shove which way would you go? Ps i won't hold you too it!!
    Cheers Andy

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Andy, they are looking so good! Must be the lovely nutritional meadow grasses and the Cornish lifestyle, lol. I hope you have an awesome time on Mull. it really is a magical island with the best Wildlife around! I do hope it's nice and quiet for you!
      Regarding the Hide, it's a tough one but I am leaning towards the Lagopus, bit heavier but easy to erect and has the internal chair which is so comfy! As long as you aren't trekking miles it will be fine, the V6 is lovely and will suit more situations than the Lagopus which you can't stay in as it's too small. I hope that helps, don't forget my discount code if you do get one. Cheers R 👍

    There is a multitude of Deer where I stay . There is a field they frequent alot ... usually I'll sit on the wall or stand and wait .. other times if none are in plain view i'll go in the field and look over the hill normally they'll be one or two ....or more if am lucky . A while back a young one came within 20ft of me and lay down ... got some quality captures that day . last week 7 in the field .. at one time ,
    Manage to catch sight of an interaction between a deer and a fox one night .. and got some pics .. even though the deer bolted away the Fox .. sat never moved .for like 10/15mins .. as i made my way closer to get better pics of the Fox . Must have been the same Fox i photographed the previous year . Haven't seen the Fox since . sadly . When i got my 90D tried the video feature ,, recorded footage of a Buck from my vantage point ..

    Hey, great video's. Just wanted to point out on behalf of hearing impaired people, that when you shoot video's in a blind and whisper, even with my head phones or air pods cranked to max, I can't make out 90% of what you say. So I usually give up and skip ahead to where you're out of the blind again. It'd a real bummer. I would be helpful if you could bump up the audio in these cases. Thanks,

      Thanks Monte, all points taken onboard. I’ve increased the volume in process and probably not enough! Difficult talking loudly with sensitive subjects with the wind against you! Next time I’ll do no talking and video only. Shame, did subtitles not work? Cheers R

    • @montepaulson3131
      @montepaulson3131 2 года назад +1

      I’m don’t know anything really about post processing video, I just assumed one could turn up the sound during the post processing without talking louder during actual recording. I’ve tried the CC reading, but for me it kills the experience.
      Thanks for the response.

    • @RichardBirchett

      @@montepaulson3131 Thanks again Monte, totally agree sub titles really do kill the experience!
