    Same thing on my R1200GS 2017. It is good to see that it is a normal noise... Regards from Spain!

    The fuel pump primes when the ignition is turned to on, like every bike. This noise that continues after, that's coming from the throttle body is from the servo motor inside the cog part of the throttle body(black casing usually). Also called the Throttle position sensor. There's cogs, a motor and some electrical readers in there that take the readings from the throttle and dictate the amount of air thats let into the engine. My bikes started doing it too out of the blue. Driving me nuts so I went research crazy.

      T, good research. I have a new RC boat project and the throttle servo, operating against a spring load makes a similar noise - from the servo under a load.

    Glad to hear this is normal. My 2017 GS does it.

    It’s common with most big-bore bikes with valve-trains outside a fairing. The throttle body actuators engage in a very audible manner.

    I have the same thing on my 2017 rallye. Spent the day, off road, thru engine deep puddles- presumed it may be a bit of shorting. It's being serviced in a week or so. Will post back the 'findings' then!

    I have just noticed that same sound on my 2021 R1250RS, it is coming only from the right side. Should it be worth taking it to the mechanic? Edit: After posting my comment I was able to read the comments (they weren’t loading before) and it makes more sense now. It seems that I missed a day riding for no good reason.

    Hi everybody, i have a 1200 gs 2015, it has the same noise, but now i have the yellow triangle and the engine symbols , the bike sometime runs bad, it seems like lost power and runs slow, but i turned off and back bormal ? Somebody has the same problem?

    All of my EFI bikes make really odd noises when the ignition is activated but the bike is not running. I think this is one to not worry about.

    Same noise in the 2020 1250GS model 😂
    What’s funny is that it is not a steady noise as you would expect, but like a faulty electrical wire. Glad to realise others do to, so must be normal. Ain’t gonna fix what ain’t broke. :)
    What concerns me the most it’s the clunky gear box, because that’s hitting the transmission every time I shift gears. Do you also struggle shifting gears 1-2 2-3 3-4, up and down?

    • @PeterBaumgart1a
      @PeterBaumgart1a 3 года назад +1

      Sometimes... I find that with some practice and attention (but not too much! Or "performance anxiety" happens!) I can get it to shift basically "unnoticeably," and much better/quieter than the "quick shifter" it came with, and also much more gently than I was ever able to do in my eight years on the previous bike, a 2012 1200GS.
      It's three things you need to get "in tune," maybe even four or five: RPM/change, clutch out/in timing, and the actual gear shift timing in between, considering the amount of time elapsed after clutch actuated (i.e. the time-dependent amount of rpm drop). It's complicated! But worth practicing, until you reach perfection, at least most of the time... :-)

      With shift assist I sometimes have rough shifts if not accelerating for the up shifts o decelerating for the down shifts, it is not like an automatic transmission with manual mode it has some timing to it.
